    Agreed.

They had something that doesn’t really happen in football, despite us being mid table and a bit hit and miss, almost everyone was together and supporting the team and the club and as you say pulling in the right direction.

There was a poll wasn’t there about sacking NP or renewing his contract or something and it was over 90% in support of him. Thats unheard of for a club that wasn’t really “successful”. That was only a couple of weeks before the sacking.

They ruined all of that hard work and that’s what I’m most bitter about.

    This.

Aghhh! I forgot Rushden and Diamonds. Thanks for the reminder. I just looked through the league tables for reminders, but Rushden and Diamonds lost their ground when they imploded. I recall that they had some sort of link with Doc Martens footwear, or maybe my memory is faulty in this respect.

The owner of R & D who bankrolled their rise from the Southern League Midland Division and the rebuilding of the stadium was Max Griggs who also owned the Dr Martens company. No idea why he pulled out ( handed the club over to the Supporters Trust ), but by then they were already in decline.

I was thinking City wouldn't have worn the home kit away to Brentford. However on checking the historical football kits website I see that Brentford, strangely, wore yellow shirts with blue trim for the 1960-61 season only. Perhaps that was when the photo was taken.

Yes correct, using that website it shows the kit Big John was wearing was worn by City between 1958 and season 1961/2.  So the picture must have been taken in 60/61. We played Brentford on December 10th 1960 at Griffin Park. We lost 2-0.😒.

Thanks, didn't see that, yes I do recognise it now .

Yes now it's been pointed out you can see it's the Braemer Road stand, the floodlights along the top of the stand were removed and traditional pylons were erected in each corner in 1963 ( per wiki) so the picture is pre that date. The old covered end kop terrace in the picture was replaced by the distinctive ' Wendy house ' 2 tiered stand in the 80's. I've been several times but after the kop end was demolished.

  5. Right now if you gave me a binary choice of Manning or King for the rest of the season I'd plump for King every time.

I know absolutely nothing about King's coaching skills so that tells you everything about how I rate Manning!

  6. Obviously the Lansdowns won't fire Manning and appoint Andy King - but it's not a bad call if things get so bad that a change becomes necessary, as a caretaker as the OP said. To those saying he's got no experience - neither had Tinnion, Millen,  Holden, and LJ had done the square root of #### all, but it didn't stop the Lansdowns appointing those 4. So never say never.

Hopefully Manning will be addressing the squad deficiencies in the summer window.

Tinnion is already on it and has said he's looking for a striker with the following attributes:

*A big strong No 9 who can bully defenders

*Quick enough to run in behind

*Able to run and press all game

*A player with a proven goals and assist record

    *Under 23 but with 150 - 200 game experience

*Available for a modest fee and wage.

*Able to improve and further develop sufficiently to be sold to Bournemouth within 2 years for >£15M

Should be quite easy to find 😃 , Trust Me on Tinnion

    Anthony Osborne still involved?

He has a habit of running sports clubs into the ground and then selling the stadium for housing, he did it with Swindon speedway recently, their stadium is now pretty much Taylor Wimpey houses now..

Clarke Osborne - that's him , he was involved with the Gas & instrumental in selling Eastville to IKEA, tried it on at Swindon, and has been trying to buy Plainmoor ( it's council owned) so he can use it to " fund a new stadium" yeah right. Apparently he never attended Torquay games.

A parasite who sees a club in need of financial help as a way to acquire cheap real estate.
