  1. From BBC "We've finally, finally got the players back on the pitch as the referee gets it up and running again at the Mem.  The security has been significantly bolstered around the stands but the referee has suggested that if fans return to the pitch again the game will be abandoned."

Go on Scunny fans, you know what to do ?

The news that SL wishes to build a new suburb around Ashton Gate clarifies two things, imo

    1.  City are a very small part of SL’s long term plan

    2. He is not quite the Great Benefactor some City fans believe him to be, he is an entrepreneur seeking to maximise profit for himself.

I don’t have any objection to that as an aim, but I do have an objection that his imperial dream has never been open, and City fans being used as dupes.  First we got BS and now this new plan.  Perhaps we might now be told the ultimate end game? A rebranding of Bristol into Lansdown City perhaps!

SL is often criticised for alleged mistakes and acts of stupidity, usually with the benefit of hindsight.  But this may be the biggest load of b****ocks I've seen posted about him.  No-one seeking to make money should go anywhere near an EFL football team.  The only way to make a small fortune from EFL teams is to start with a large one

  3. I like Nige, and hope he stays a long time

.... but I really can't understand all the anti-Lansdown posts on this thread.

Nige is very clearly wrong this time.  He even says himself "We haven’t won the number of games that we should have done. We haven’t got the number of points that we should have."  Football is a results game and Nige has given us a very good definition of underperformance.

The fact there are equal studies that show they don't make much difference. Throughout the whole pandemic it has been 'follow the science' but which science? For every scientist who says one thing, there is another scientist who will give a different opinion.  Some may get more press time but does that make them more worthy.

Remember we were told the science said masks make little difference and didn't need to wear then, then we told to wear them  despite no new science.

We were told the vaccine will stop you getting covid (by Biden and CDC), now we now that is not true.

We were told lockdowns will save hundreds of thousands of lives, now studies show they reduced the death rate by just 0.2%.

One study shows vaccination immunity is best, another that immunity after infection is best.

We are given models that there could be 6,000 deaths a day without another lockdown, then (thankfully) they are completely wrong.

Really none of us know.  People seem to pick their opinion and get evidence to suit.  I just feel labeling people 'anti vax' is just the latest way to divide people, especially when the majority of the 'anti vaxers' are not nutty loons but just genuine people with concerns of taking a drug with no medium or long term safety data (which I know is impossible to produce so doesn't mean it is not safe).  They need encouragement to get vaccinated, not punishment and condemnation.

This is how science works.  There's a lot of randomness involved, so some studies are always going to deliver misleading results because of this (e.g. the people selected at random to receive a particular drug in one study might just happen to be healthier on average than those who get another drug or a placebo).  So we always need to be careful giving too much weight to just "one study" (especially if it's being reported in the Daily Mail or on social media).  Scientists address this by aggregating the results of as many studies as possible.  Naysayers will often be able to find "one study" that gives a different result, but that doesn't mean the consensus established by the overall body of evidence is wrong.

you alright mate? life must be dull if you screenshot my twitter page, post it here and call it 'interesting'.

Hmm, one could say that life must be dull if you resurrect threads that have been dormant for 3 weeks to have a dig at someone who perhaps had the nerve to not know who you are (no me neither).  Watch out for the stones in that glass house of yours.

It is rather funny that those who despise the Tories on here and despise Boris Johnson yet still go along with every restriction he puts in place and his 'opposition' support him in doing so.

I don't believe a word any politician or scientist come out with anymore - they are all corrupted by power, personal agenda's and money in my opinion.

Sorry, but you are beneath contempt for lumping politicians and scientists together.  Scientists have saved billions of lives over many many years with their painstaking and often unrecognised work.  They now abide by a rigorous set of procedures to weed out unreliable findings.  They can't eliminate every single charlatan, but these get found out pretty quickly.

Feel free not to believe them, but they are the best hope the human race has at the moment.

I am not sure I understand when you say the 'source of this news' - an expert cardiology on terrestrial television.

I agree the benefits of vaccination will far outweigh the risks, but that doesn't mean people are not allowed to question/know the risks.  The cost/benefit analysis is also different for each individual.

PLEASE stop using this football forum to defend false information about vaccinations.

You posted about a story on GB News.  You might not have realised this was based on a dodgy study.  But PLEASE just accept that this story is just scaremongering and stop trying to defend your original post.

I'll declare my interest as, even though I have a full-time job in the public sector, I give up some of my time most weekends to volunteer at local vaccination centres.  I do this because very very strongly believe in the benefits of the vaccination programme for the people getting vaccinated and for their families, friends and also for other people they encounter on a completely random basis.  I have nothing but contempt for people who undermine this programme by helping to spread false information.

In these days "on terrestrial television" means absolutely nothing.  Russia Today and Al Jazeera TV are other terrestrial TV channels.  Some might argue they are more trustworthy than GB News.

PLEASE just accept that the story you highlighted was not reliable

There could be any different number of reasons for this, but it does seem there is a an increase of cardiac related situations at stadiums, which mirror an increase in society as a whole.

The report on GB News is a little concerning in that it doesn't even seem to be being looked into. It's not something that can just be swept under the carpet, whether it is covid related, vaccine related, a result of lifestyle over the last couple of years, or lack of people getting earlier diagnosis.

(The title of the article below is maybe a little misleading. The researcher does say there could be many reasons, and not just the vaccine)

It's not being swept under the carpet.  Whatever politicians are like, scientists care about the truth.  But this is a single study, which hasn't yet been peer reviewed, indeed only the abstract has been published in open-access format so far, no-one has yet had a chance to try to replicate the results, and the journal that published the abstract has issued an “expression of concern” statement about it, noting that it contains “potential errors” and “may not be reliable”.

May be that's why reputable news outlets haven't jumped onto this story.  Scientists do have a good track record of identifying potential side effects once there is actual evidence, as we've seen with the vaccines that are currently used.  And a lot of work was put into another vaccine being developed in Australia that was then completely abandoned when it was found to be triggering (false) positive HIV test results.

Unfortunately in these days stories that are unreliable, statistical flukes or just plain wrong often get circulated on social media and on disreputable news outlets.

I’ve just had a look at the Tesla site, £43K for the most basic model, with absolutely no extras, the nicer looking ones ( and with the distances you mention) closer to or over £100K - pie in the sky for ordinary folk like me.

Other electric vehicles are available, cost a lot less and are probably more reliable

There is something wrong with NP healthwise, otherwise why wouldnt he be here? saying that a few words from him via video would end the speculation. i.e "I`m recovering well and expect to be back in a few days/week/months" wouldnt take too much effort on the clubs/his part.:dunno:

Don't you know anyone who's had bad Covid symptoms?  You just can't tell whether they will last for days, weeks or months.

  11. So many people have such short memories. It wasn't very long ago that, at best, we were simply yo-yo-ing between the Championship and League One (or worse - remember it was only in the 2000s that it took us a whole EIGHT years to get out of League One), and we couldn't seem to stay more than 2 or 3 seasons in the Championship let alone achieve top half finishes and be seen as potential play-off contenders.  Things could be a lot better, but we are still light years ahead of where we used to be.

Still work to do?  Yes of course

    Ashamed and embarrassed?  Grow up!
