Good write up from our thread starter.
One match that he didn’t mention, much, was our play off game in 1988 there under big Joe Jordan.

It was the team who occupied the last , third , relegation place in the Second division v the fifth place  in division Three.

The build up at Brammal lane was electric. I remember thinking that there were not many home fans for such an important match but just five minutes before kick off they arrived in their noisy , bellicose thousands.

It was a magnificent performance by Jordan. He brought himself on and owned the game.

    We sent the Blades down.

It was a bit tasty after the match.

Yes, our mini bus had a few windows missing after that game, it was a draughty trip back to Somerset!

  2. I think it’s now a case of Lino’s and referees concentrating more on the on field players than the thrower when a throw in is taken.

Ive noticed a lot of players now lifting their back foot at throw ins, yes it’s a foul throw when this happens, but it seems in the greater scheme of things this is being seen as a trivial offence, when more important things are happening on the pitch.

I'm fortunate to live about a five minute walk from the ground and know parking isn't great. And hasn't been helped by the council decisions e.g. extending the RPZs.

But I do wonder sometimes, why people think they can turn up to an event of 20,000(ish) people and park in the roads directly around the stadium at 2:30pm?

Probably because we could when there was only about 6-7k of us turning up for home games. So we got used to easy parking. I agree, it’s a different scenario nowadays though.

Why don't you park in the field right next to the Bedminster cricket club? it's £10 that's 4@ £2.50 each 5 minute walk to the ground, if I were you the only time I would catch the bus was if it had been raining a lot leading up to the game because sometimes the field is then closed.

    £10??

    Thank f@@k I don’t go anymore!!

  5. If I wrote on this thread three years ago I would have stated my love for City, and why I had been going for 40 plus years.

But three years ago I found myself falling out of love with the club. It was all down to watching Lee Johnson’s tactics and his after match interviews etc. I just thought, I can’t do this anymore, to me he gave me the impression that it was HIS club and he was the most important thing about MY club.

So I started spending my Saturday afternoons going to watch Western and County league football, I’ve never looked back tbh.

City will always be my club, but I wouldn’t travel to AG now even if given free tickets. The pro game has changed, it’s not how I like it, yes technically the players are streets ahead of the past, but I want entertainment as well, which is why I walked away three years ago, there was no thrills or spills, it was drab boring negative rubbish imo.

I never envisaged I would stop watching City, but now I have zero regrets about what I did. Non league football fulfils all my requirements from a game of football.

I will watch City live on the tv, watch highlights, but I still find it so drab.

I still admire all of our fans that go week in week out, and travel the country being let down on a weekly basis ( done that for years!!). But I will never go back to those days myself.

I wasn’t worried about losing more than we won, if I was I would have followed the likes of Liverpool, I just wanted the manager and players to feel as passionate as I did, and in previous years we had 100’s of players and certain managers who fitted that criteria.
I personally see very few that care now, no brick walls will be broken by many of the current crop as they are soft and look like they couldn’t give a shite.

Apologies if I sound negative on a thread that is about positives, I just felt I wanted to explain the other side ?

Mick Harford would’ve been alright too, judging by the job(s) he’s done at Luton.

A man with real passion, sadly lacking in the game nowadays.

Good post , an history of the club.
The one point is that John Ward admitted that he needed help and the club presented him with Benny.

Ward had Mick Harford in mind,if I recall correctly and wasn’t over pleased with the appointment of Benny the Cap.

The club evidently  mismanaged the affair but Ward was not without fault on his side.

Still that’s all water under the suspension bridge now.

    Ray Harford ?

  7. I stopped going 3 years ago after 44 years. I feel for those fans who still care passionately, as I did for a long long time. I now realise the years I wasted were that, wasted years.

The odd good performance and the odd good cup result, is just not worth me wasting my emotions away for r anymore.

For those still keeping the faith, well done, but like me, one day you will look back and think was it all worth it.

Said on another thread I think he is so overated and easily targeted by the opposition.

I’ve consistently said it for a very long time. Obviously a talented footballer with the ball at his feet. But he lacks any desire as a defender to actually defend. I’ve never seen him show any real willingness to stop his man get the ball into our box, it’s simply incredible how easily he allows attacking opponents to do this.

3 points off top 2 and quarter finals of league cup…rather have your season than ours fella

Sounds like us 3-4 seasons ago, we know how that ended. With them getting trounced twice in a few days, and conceding 8 goals in the process, it seems he’s being consistent!!

Milan Djuric there in the video too. Forgot he existed. Remember when Ampadu was gunna be the next big thing? Hasn't done shit... except get sent off.

... and why do Venezia shirts not have a badge? Are they like the crap Man City ones?

Ampadu is just 21 years old, has lots of International caps for Wales, has played in the Premier league, the German league, and now the Italian league, he is still a Chelsea player.

I repeat, he is 21 years old…. not exactly someone who “hasn’t done shit”!!

Derby drew there. Millwall drew there. Luton game them a game and lost 3-2. Swansea beat them this season as well but it's asking too much of us to at least be competitive. Ok guess we shouldn't expect anything from our professional football club just because teams are deemed to be better. How did these other teams manage to live with them??

Just remember, the season after next ( after WBA have been relegated from the money league) the same 3,4,5-0 defeat will happen to us again.

Its a two year cycle, it’s who we are, and what we do as a football club!!

You still see Lino's flagging for things, so why would they flag for some decisions they make, and not others. It has been mentioned that some Refs ask for offsides and throws nothing else, hopefully current Ref's aren't that dictatorial , but who knows.

Sometimes it’s easier to shout “foul” in the refs earpiece, than it is to wave your flag about!

We are Lansdown just outside of the area, while I shouted for a Pen my mate was sure it wasn't. The Ref signalled to the ball so I think he thought the defender got a touch, this would also explain why Scott wasn't booked. He may have thought there was contact after the tackle.

I've watched the replay, it looks a blatant hand ball from the wrong side. The Linesman was the right side for it, but it seemed neither wanted to get involved with the game, just throws and the occasional offside.

I really don't think we will be getting much luck when we defend our box for 45 minutes.

The Linos are in constant contact with the referee for 90 minutes, through their headsets.

    Hmm.

Obviously, I have no idea what happened or what was said after the final whistle, but it would seem (unless the comment was from a supporter) the first yellow card was warranted.

I assume that if a supporter had made the comment there would have been no yellow card, and it seems that the referee had no idea who made it, hence his comment ‘You’ll have to do’.

Out of interest, what would have happened if the comment had been made by LL and a nearby supporter, aware of the likely penalty, came forward, apologised and told the referee that he was the culprit - given that, to a non-Bristolian, all accents sound the same?

I think the “you’ll have to do” comment is a general one, usually there are 2-3 coaches and up to five subs in or around the dugout. So if none of the 7-8 owned up the manager gets the card.
