They get relegated to the third tier, get promoted again, give us a wave as the go sailing past us on their way back to the PL !

And they are about to be liquidated, hope they savoured that "wave".

Yes despite the noise coming from the administrators they still have no favored bid. The January window is looming so unless there are secured funds to get them through to EO January they will be blooding their kids.

Has/would  never happened to us.!

HOWEVER ON TOPIC. I was 18 when we got relegated an am 60 now so I have a lifetime of failure with the odd moment.

The underlying premise of the current administration was effectively buy low, sell high and develop the youth. Unfortunately Covid has made assets largely valueless supply and demand at work. But, we have seen several prospects coming through from the academy and this will actually give us an advantage moving forward, when you consider we have Scott, Benny, Bell, Conway, etc etc etc. Semenyo is now back playing and if you throw in James and Williams we are actually in a better position than most to make a tilt at promotion in the short medium and long term.

Derby would kill to be in our position, that is for sure!

  2. I was just taking a look at the Derby Forum and was a bit shocked at what some think their players could be worth. It took me back to having to sell Gerry Gow and Tom Ritchie for fire sale values back then, however at least there wasn’t a global virus dropping the bottom out of the market!

I hope for the sake of the supporters of the club a buyer willing to absorb that amount of debt can be found, but the idea that selling players, one of whom 8million is still owed on, will do nothing except a few weeks breathing room. Unless of course Mel boy stumps up for some of the debt he created! Yes unlikely!

    Would agree.
If you listen to Radio Bris after the game- you don’t need to listen to FBC as Ian and Mark reiterate the same views.

And obviously Ian is (in his mind) never wrong, and has also always suggested anything positive that’s happened “a few weeks ago”

I like Ian. He puts himself out there and says what he thinks. Having been on this place for years keyboard warriors do a get a bit boring.

HOWEVER You are correct and it’s why I stopped listening for a while. It’s already been stated on Twentyman after the game so what is the point.

Nevertheless I tuned in earlier to the recorded version and it was a bit Samey in as much as I’d already heard some of it on Radio Brizz and some of the views expressed were the same ones of a few weeks ago.

I like Ian am not convinced by Massengo, but with Williams King and James all injured we are left with what we have….A weak midfield. This is why we go longer as we can’t pass through teams and are easily knocked off the ball. Hence Martin gets some long ball. And to be fair he won most of it and did the job he was/is asked to do.

The boy Scott is going to be a star is obvious. But Semenyo finally getting a run is key to how Pearson likes to play. Win the ball…..Get it forward to a fast running forward.

The point being we have had to play with what was fit after dumping all of LJs collection of wage suckers. So thinly veiled attacks on anyone on the basis of no improvement are a bit trite. He’s had what he’s had. A really crappy hand and no money. And yet we have won games at home lately and are closer to the Play Offs than relegation, so hopefully we can remain comfortable and that is improvement.

Having a visiting supporter guest would really give the show a lift. Hopefully contact can be made with opposition poddy’s and a swap can be made. Perhaps Ian on a Free Transfer every week after his stint on Twentyman.

The bloke from Derby I guess was a mate of someones, was a great idea in theory, in practice if we get to play Derby again perhaps someone who doesn’t blame The EFL for not stopping Derby from defrauding the public purse earlier than they did. A bit bizarre really!

Roger Hodgson was a bit posh, but Rick Davies had a much more "humble" background. He was one of the better things to come out of Swindon.

Love Supertramp, by the way. And, as someone else has said, great album covers.

And before the thread gets shifted to "non football" though Scott was very good yesterday!

Scott is going to be a big star one day.

I find it hard to remember anyone with that sort of talent at 18 years old. My only concern for him is the kind of injury Tommy Docherty got that effectively ended his ability to get to the highest level. Fingers crossed there.

  5. Vyner is a good player. His issue will be that he’s a utility player. He can play a number of different positions but will rarely be number one in any of them.

However this kind of player is in relatively short supply so he is likely to have a very decent career either here or some place else and as long as he gets used to seeing a lot of the bench he will do great.

Sorry..cannot agree there..........they were musicians and songwriters, and not chipmunks with electronic keyboards, who were covering other's songs?  Off you go and listen to your Ed Sheeran masterpieces?

What an odd thing to say!

I’m 60 and couldn’t even name an Ed Sheeran song I just didn’t like didn’t prog rock.

However I’ve seen Joy Division and The Clash, The Jam, The Stranglers among many many others multiple times!

    Hope that helps!

They were alright I suppose. Good singalong stuff and some cracking album covers IIRC.

I guess the fact we remember them says something!

That Prog Rock sort of stuff always reminded me of upper class ***** trying to piss their parents off by growing their hair long and strumming a guitar. But maybe that’s a bit harsh.

I sit directly behind the South Stand goal so get a good view of his accuracy. It's quite good with most aimed at Martin. The problem is that Martin wins the glancing header but the ball goes to a defender and we're then defending the next attack. A never ending cycle.

We need to play shorter passes to back three or midfield and keep the ball for longer periods.

We do need to do that. But at the moment don’t have the personnel or confidence and maybe the ability to do it!

Having James Williams and King fit and in the center would help. Unfortunately we have Bakinson and Massengo who will get bullied off the ball, thus we go longer.

However for my tuppence Pearson likes to play a certain way, which I can see is starting to take shape with the gradual return of Semenyo.

Yesterday Scott and Odowda both had very good games and there wing/outside play should have had us up 3/0 at ht.

Derby were a weak side with the exception of their winger had a bad first 45. Still I see green shoots with us  and I’m hopeful with better finishing and decision making will have a much better second half of the season

  10. I AM NOT LJs number one fan by any extent. But Sunderland are third in touching distance of top spot and are still in a cup.

Lord knows what Sunderland supporters want. They are where they are because they have been awful for years, not due to a bad performance today allegedly. Anyone worth his salt knows that place is a no win job! Lunatics.

We would lose three points but the flip side is, so would Posh & Barnsley. Hull lost to them and they haven`t played Cardiff yet.

They have Bahdiff before January. What a mess!

  12. So with three points in our bag thankfully. Are we better off if Derby go into liquidation mid season or somehow limp to the end? I guess The impending player/asset sale could yield enough to keep something going but they will be in the City 82 situation at best!

Yeah, got something about him….but we aren’t selling him in the next two windows, which is when we need funds.

Glad to hear that. However i feel if we are approached at any decent level by any decent club he will be gone with the appropriate sell on the same as the rest of them. IMO we are not in a position to be to picky on where we raise the funds, no matter what the club propaganda/ists might say!

Relative, I consider them to be different players. And there are other players I would shift before Massengo, especially in respect of wages.

Ideally, with the current squad, we need another right back as Vyner simply is not the answer in that role and Simpson is done. Tanner injured has highlighted this.

DaSilva and Palmer need selling to free up wages, period. May be we look to the loan market to allow scouting to take place and recruit in summer. Kalas I could see leaving to free up wages, which if combined with the former two, hopefully we can shift Wells even at a discount to free up a further £25kpw - gives us circa £70kpw, which when budgeted is three £1m signings at £8-10kpw wages, and maybe a loan or two.

I think we need to keep Massengo as we know he can actually perform at this level. Depends on contract negotiations. If it's not looking good then he's going to have to be sold in the summer anyway.

Scott and Massengo are largely different players that is clear. However shifting players is a direct function of who wants them. We are not over burdened with players that have value, for any reason and we clearly need to move a few and free some wages.

The players that some might want to keep are in all likelihood those with the most transfer value who could get a contract at a similar or better level elsewhere.

DeSilva and Palmer (singling them out as you mentioned them) may want to play, but to what extent are they prepared to leave and get less money in order to have more chance of kicking a ball on match day. A question for them.

We are in a terrible mess as a consequence of MA and LJ throwing money at anything and the “family” allowing it.

On a slightly different note, Pearson has taken over this shit show and is trying to do something with what he has, kids, sick notes, lightweights and one or two seasoned pros. I am as infuriated as the next girl when we blow up but this rebuild will take the three years ascribed. That’s a fact.

  14. 10 minutes ago, Davefevs said:

Our squad’s value has dropped off a cliff.

If any of them were to be sold, I think our the highest fee we’d get would be for Kalas.  Problem is, he’s sat with an asset value of £3m in January, so we have to sell him for a fair chunk to have just to re-invest.  What might we get £5m, £6m at most if the right club came in.  And to be honest, controversial as it might sound, freeing up c£25k p.w. is not to be sniffed at.

Whilst I like Bentley, I’m sure from a scouting perspective you’d be highlighting command of his area, poor decision making with the ball in hand or at feet, starting position when ball is up the pitch is too deep.  I don’t think you’d get much more than we paid for him (£2-3m).

If Massengo was to be sold, any chance of a sizeable fee is based on potential…which is fair enough.  I think he will go on to very good things, chances are it won’t be with us. We’d be in a better position if we could get his contract extended first.

    Beyond that I’m struggling.

I agree. However Scott has as much potential and probably more than Massengo. IMO of course.

I agree, we’ve got a squad who aren’t worth a light in transfer fees and on recent form that includes the glued to his line goalkeeper.

Yes annoying isn’t it. But to be frank we are so crap he’s bound to lack a bit of confidence.

  16. 2 minutes ago, Numero Uno said:

Who would buy him for the money we would need to sell him for?

You could say that about any of them. I don’t have a clue what players are selling for anymore, but one thing is for sure he’s not worth much, like most of them with the exception of Bentley.

If we get an offer of any sort for any player it is going to be considered. I don’t see us buying anything unless we sell. It is also pretty obvious we will have to loan whether NP likes it or not. What is clear is our best players in Williams and James have sick notes regularly. What we have out there is not good enough to compete and something has to change.

Massengo is popular. But his popularity far outweighs his usefulness in a relegation battle.

Ashton Gate is owned by Ashton Gate Limited, which is owned by Bristol City Holdings Limited, the company that also owns Bristol City Football Club Limited. Bristol City Holdings Limited is then owned by Pula Sport. The Rugby Club is separate from the football element, and certainly doesn't own Ashton Gate stadium. As others have said, when you talk about selling the "Club", there needs to be some accuracy regarding what exactly is being talked about. As I understand it the entity that files accounts for P&S purposes, and so is likely the one registered as a member of the EFL, is Bristol City Holdings Limited. If that entity was sold as a share sale, then the stadium would go with it as it is owned by a subsidiary.

    image.png.9fbdf3ba7830fb5ae3043ef60091ece3.png

So it’s possible to buy/sell the ground with Bristol City FC but not mandatory.

If the ground were to be sold to a company with Bristol City this one assumes would make Bristol Rugby squatters/renters at AG. Of course it could be argued they already are, but the clubs have the same owner currently thus it’s unlikely SL will want to kick them out.

I would also suggest the value of  Bristol Sport would be damaged well beyond the proceeds of the sale of AG and BCFC

  19. 3 hours ago, Ivorguy said:

Not us.  We don’t, as BCFC, own our own ground.  For that to apply to us BS would have to be broken up and sold separately with AG going to BCFC.

My long standing concern about the chaos BS will cause at point of SL’s withdrawal,  unless, of course, SL finds a buyer for the lot.  And where are they going to come from?

    Exactly!

Oh the group has decent value. Particularly if the egg chasers are competitive in general (short term drops in form happen).
