  1. That dynamic shift has come about in the last 30ish years, not 60. And only in the last 10, after massive failures, have we really set about having a plan. We've seen decent levels of success in our youth teams which would suggest we're heading in the right direction.
  2. I expect fans of half the teams in the football league probably think similar
  3. Terry actually played a significant role in winning the trophy he lifted though, in fairness
  4. I feel similar. I think he’s done a fantastic job in changing perspectives around England both for fans after some pretty bleak years from 2007-2016 and for players enjoying being with the national team. The setup at the FA with at George’s park is getting better too and it feels like there’s a plan. That said I absolutely understand the arguments about games being there for the taking and could someone else have done better with this group - there’s plenty who may have done worse though too. I trust his squad selections that he knows more than most on a personal level as well as ability. He dealt with the Foden / Greenwood situation well, and I think he’s done the same with Maddison. Ultimately you can look at his England record from either perspective - he’s either failed most times he’s come up against a “good” team or he’s been the most “successful” England manager since 66. Both are probably true
  5. Have to feel sorry for anyone boycotting this. missing one of the most dramatic finals of all time, what a game.
  6. It never fails to amaze me how effective momentum is in football (and sport in general) As soon as they got a goal the whole dynamic of the game changed. A team completely dead and buried at half time it seemed, are now looking like it’s just a formality they’ll go on and win now. Argentina absolutely hanging on and look like a pens coming every time France enter their box, desperation at the back!
  7. More in one tournament than we’ve had in how long?
  8. Truly bizarre comment. He was MOM contender at Rotherham. He’s got bags of technical ability, wins fouls in good areas, moves the ball well with good delivery into the box. He also gets stuck in to win and doesn’t shirk a tackle, not afraid to take one for the team either though sometimes a bit rash
  9. It was deemed to be outside the box, there’s no comparison As we seen with Kane, still gotta score them.
  10. Honestly can’t understand this, he’s clipped his heels twice. Definite penalty, nothing soft about it, dreadful defending
  11. It's 2 dates as it stands, 21st December and 28th December (ambulance staff) so it's only effecting some EFL games on the 21st.
  12. This isn't as far back as some of the others here, but the latest national lottery with the annoying crazy frog ringtone was a throwback to a time when that bloody advert was on every ad break, often twice! I wasn't really bothered enough to look into it at the time, but turns out they effectively spent 10s of millions taking up as many advert slots as they could and heavily targetted children's peak viewing times. It was morally questionable because many were fooled into thinking they were paying a one off fee for a particular ringtone, but would actually be subscribed to a regular fee (I think I may have got caught out by this once!)
  13. Thought this was a pretty fair assessment, and how I saw it especially watching it back again as well
  14. Indeed, however I did see someone suggest (and I think I agree) that had we not got the penalty we may have gone on to get an equaliser anyway. The penalty deflated us a bit despite there still being another 10-12 minutes after, until then we were on top - even their second came mostly against the run of play. Caught us napping for a minute, think we should have defended the cross better.
  15. Saka was done, he ran himself into the ground (and took some kickings) he had to come off. I agree Sterling was the wrong choose though as was Mount
  16. I disagree, Tammy has his chances in the England squad. One can only conclude that he hasn’t impressed either on the pitch or off it. As for players going abroad, I’d imagine it’s also a case that the large majority of young lads grow up dreaming of playing in the Premier League so they’ll always chose that. Not forgetting that those teams abroad need to show an interest in players here also.
  17. That save at the end looked outstanding, from where we were I don’t know how he managed to reach it If that goes in it’s squeaky bum time and we know what we’re like defending a one goal lead late on!
  18. Aren’t you a copper / ex copper? Would have expected a little more empathy towards a victim of serious crime tbh Completely agree that it was a poor sub though. It’s the first time I’ve really been critical of Southgate and can’t defend it. Mount and Sterling, then Grealish with a minute to go (albeit just because stones was injured) were poor choices considering the options we had.
  19. Absolutely, he’s just a little too casual at times. I see why fans get nervous ?
  20. Not sure if it’s a case of their stronger player is out right here (he’s decent tbf) or they’ve identified a weakness in us, but they’ve battered our left hand side.
  21. Full of excitement and nerves, and that’s just for City. Not sure I could handle a double loss today ? I think we can win tonight if we show up
