Cool, that means we're now tracking behind Italy at same point. Guardian said 281 new deaths and I got worried.
-
Is it 281 dead in UK in total, or in past 24 hours?

It’s all very similar to when there’s a mass shooting in America and the likes of Fox News immediately jump to “now’s not the time to talk about gun control!”.
If the government is making mistakes, then now is exactly the time to point it out and hold them to account.
I’ve seen a lot of people on various sites posting that Boris is doing a good job. It’s perfectly reasonable to point out that he’s also made a lot of mistakes. The biggest of which was appointing and listening to a monster like Cummings.
Yeah and to he fair to Johnson, I doubt he makes many decisions.
If the rumours are true about callous Cummings battling with scientific advice, then a serious review needs to be taken, as it could have cost us dearly. I also accept that we don't know if it is true...yet.

Nope. Try again. I'll help you out: a precedent is related to historical terms. Two weeks is not historical. If City won on the 1st of March, drew on the 8th of March, won a midweek game on the 11th, and lost on the 15th, what is the historical precedence? I'll not stay up all night waiting for your answer.
I don't want to be the one to prove his point by copying and pasting a dictionary definition!
Look I'm sure we're not so far apart here. I think that those extra weeks to observe other countries should have made us better equipped. You don't think it makes a difference.
I'm happy to have a friendly disagreement on that point.

You take a precedent from something that has happened, not something that is and continues to happen.
Yeah something that happened weeks prior.

Lamentable in your opinion. Not in mine. There is no modern precedent for tackling a crises such as this, and I'm happy with the government's performance so far.
Except for the precedent of China, Italy, Spain, France...

Go on with life people. We can't close down society. Pure stupidity..
Is that because you're looking forward to the big IKEA in the sky?!

Lots of people with eyes in their arses on here knowing all the facts and data at any given time.
If only they were running the country...
Good job we all had Italy, France and Spain to look to to make considered decisions.

I don't have an issue with the phased approach of the move towards lockdown. But I have felt all along the government were too slow to get started and would have protected more people had they looked at what was going on and acted quickly. There was that pointless business as usual phase.

Welcome to our three new runners

I'm guessing most people's running clubs are on hold so our OTIB group's virtual club could come in handy. Maybe we can organise an OTIB run in April/May, all virtually of course (we'll probably be just going around the block 100 times by then!)
What do we think about running with others? I'm joining a mate on sunday but thinking I'll stay a metre apart when running. We can still chat and run that way.

If I was struggling to make ends meet and in that cleaners position then I would be going out and working wherever I could. If you can’t afford to stay at home then you can’t afford to stay at home. it’s as simple as that.
I think most people would be on the side of the worker here.
But the dilemna is that if a relative of yours passed away as a result of these workers spreading the virus you might have a different view. Tricky innit.

There will be differences, percentage of smokers, workers conditions - dust, pollution etc.- ages, so that data will all need normalising before it means anything.
That data is probably already out there. Doesn't sound like a difficult comparison if someone wanted to do it.

Patrick Vallance said yesterday (or the day before?) that if we can keep it to below 20,000 deaths that would be a ‘good outcome’ and hopefully we can achieve that with the new measures the Government are introducing.
He also acknowledged that 20,000 deaths can never be ‘good’ but I guess in comparison to what the death toll could be if nothing was done then that would be considered reasonable.
Ultimately the government's approach will be judged on the UK death toll versus other nations such as France and Germany. It'll be a long time before we can apply this comparison though.

I can confirm that Sainos are limiting sales of milk, and even bottles of wine, but that there are no limits on beer and cider. Fill your boots and and you'll barely even notice lockdown...

Is anyone else hearing rumours of total lockdown this week (and the 'royal' bloke dead)

So kind! I did Charlton away Boxing Day and managed not to wipe out those in the away end, it was literally a case of felt alright one day and was sick the next
Joking aside since posting that article on Facebook quite a few people have said similar that they had those symptoms from November/December onwards, this helps explain why it looks like there’s been a massive jump in cases when it’s actually been going on a lot longer than people thought, it also means a lot of those currently panicking at home with their toilet rolls are probably immune now to the virus
Oh, Charlton, the game where our players took a lead then seemed to become fatigued and weakened and ended up losing and going on a horrible run... I'm not blaming you, but questions have to be asked...

Lots of people myself included think this virus has been around quite a bit longer than people think, I’m convinced i had Covid 19 over Christmas as i had almost the exact same symptoms but obviously nobody knew it existed at the time
I found this online apologies my computer skills only go as far as copying and pasting a link https://www.ccn.com/coronavirus-patient-zero-may-have-started-pandemic-in-november-or-earlier/
So YOU were the one that started it. Finally, someone to blame!!

Mate of mine lives in France now and posted on Facebook earlier about how he ventured out to the local hypermarket, which had no more than about half a dozen other shoppers. On the way back home he was stopped by the police and asked to show his papers and justify his reason for being out.
Yeah and I have two thoughts about that.
Firstly, it sounds dystopian.
Secondly, maybe we should be taken more stringent measures in line with other countries.

In Italy the supermarkets are still open, but access is limited, you have to keep a distance from other shoppers, and trolleys, tills etc are cleaned after every use.
And people think our Gov't has finally taken the required measures...
In France you will be fined for leaving the home for unnecessary reasons. Either they're going OTT, or we are being put at risk by our lawmakers. Time will tell.

I must be irrational then.
Here's another analogy... Lee Johnson decides he's going to play only 2 defenders in his line up, when all other clubs play 3, 4 or 5 defenders. Naturally, half the fans are saying 'hang on, that leaves us exposed at the back!' Now Lee might have uncovered a genius tactic that goes on to be successful, but it's rational to wonder if he's got his coaching all wrong.

Take it steady brother, I'm sure it'll be sweet relief to be back out there.
A week of sunshine too. I'm sure our OTIB clan will be clocking up the miles.
