Playing devil's advocate, for some on here it will be whatever we don't have.

Good performance then it's the result that's important.

Good result then it's the performance that's most important.

That's assuming, of course, that we don't have both together!

That argument works for both camps I would suggest.

For me, I’d take results over performance everyday of the week - however there’s come caveats with that

    1) Not the odd win every so often, but over a long spell

    2) success breeds confidence, and I think this produces better performances over time.

Defending and overall quality laughable though.

Agreed, but it’s certainly been an enjoyable watch. Not even sure why I put it on, but glad I did.

Mbude seems to me to be a classic example of a player who is brilliant in age group football (and looking at his career, he absolutely was) who struggles to make the step up to the men’s game. It happens a lot.

A mate of mine’s son plays for one of the local academies and as part of his development he went out on a work experience loan to a Southern League team. He couldn’t believe the step up in intensity, physicality and just pure competitiveness, even at that level. The biggest thing for him was that he was playing first team football and that results mattered to people in a way they just don’t at U18s.

Mbude is playing about 7 divisions higher than that for us, having never played anywhere near the Championship before. It’s a huge step to make and it’s no surprise he’s finding it hard. As a percentage very few young players, even outstanding ones, actually get anywhere this high up the pyramid. I don't blame the club for looking at him as his youth career did suggest that he could be ‘the one’, but it does seem like this one isn’t going to work out.

You don’t have to look far for examples of your very valid point - My history of watching City is littered with the “next big thing” never getting further than an occasional bench player.

Marvin Brown always sticks out to me.  And I wonder how his career would look if he came through our system now.

Max was praised in the way he should be by the majority of us but I'm surprised that nobody has commented on the revelation [to us] that this SO important FA Youth Cup semi vs Man City did not warrant the lads going up the day before rather than face a 3+ hour long coach journey on the day of the game!

Initial knee jerk reaction - Because it’s easier to pay lip service to something than you know, actually do it properly and fund to the level you want to achieve?

More considered thought - How to the cat 1 academies operate. Is day of the game travel the standard?

There’s always City fans waiting for them outside. Just like in 2014 when Rovers lost 1-0 to Rovers Away Kit and were flushed out of the football league.

Their darkest hour and all they could think about was Ted’s.

That is still without doubt the oddest thing I’ve heard a seemingly functional* adult come out with unprompted.

“There’s City fans waiting outside Geoff”.  Did they make it up on the spot? Was there more than one that was spreading this weird rumour?

*ok they support Rovers which you could argue is a red flag.

  6. Funnily enough, I was excited when we signed him as in my Football manager long play (into the mid 30s) Dire Mdude is a club legend at City (who apart from 1 season in League 1 have been Championship mid table stalwarts).

Anyway, fantasy land aside I think it’s reasonable to say this signing has been an absolute disaster for all parties involved, and it’s gently concerning.  There will always be ones that go wrong, that’s acceptable, but the energy and political capital that went into justifying this move in the first place doesn’t sit well.

I am interested, but find it odd that this can be classed as more beneficial to the main thread than ex players chat (who people could equally just ignored threads).

I don’t disagree. Unfortunately there’s one person who derailed every single ex player/manager thread.

Maybe they should have had their own sub forum instead….

I think Lansdown was doing ok till he decided to become a tax exile . Being away from the hub and letting a string of inept ambassadors run everything into the ground has let him live the maxim, NOT Absence makes the heart grow fonder, more Out of sight out of mind !

I think it marked a distinct change in the relationship.

Despite some grumbles (let’s not forget the very idea of the supporters trust grew legs because of disquiet of his early approach) by and large he was very much perceived as a “fan owner”.  There was good engagement, very good engagement in fact (the guy literally attended kick arounds in the park).  Fans forums happened frequently.

Then he moved, and little by little the relationship changed.  We went from “it’s my money” (absolutely fair) to “it’s my club”.  I think having to step and save Jon from his disastrous tenure as CEO seemingly killed the relationship with fans.

    It’s a shame.

Yeah I watched it. Just like an old premier league game from 10-15 years ago

Wish it was like that more often.  Makes the Man City/Villa game last night an absolute snore fest, though at the time it felt decent in spells.

Ah, Claire Young. You can tell we're in a GE year.

Surely there won't be the required interest in this anyway given Yate is full of gasheads, gypsies, and shops that still have pick n mix?

You’d be surprised, the train from Yate seems to have a lot on it - and it might be attractive for those in places like Winterbourne.

  11. Yeah not the most exciting of topics I know but possibly an option and of interest for those of us North of Bristol.

My mate had a leaflet out through the door from one of the local councillors that suggests conversations are fairly advanced for something running from the P&R - if successful they would also look at running similar for Bears and the blue quartered clowns.

    Text-

Join Claire Young's campaign to get a matchday special bus from Yate Park and Ride to Ashton Gate.

A resident Robin suggested this to Claire - and Claire followed it up: first with council officials and then with the Managing Director of First Bus. As a result ne has promised to work with the club to try to get it set up - without costing tax payers a penny. The plan would be to have a service you could book and pay for online. If it works then specials for the Bears, Rovers or other major events could be on the cards.

  12. So….moved house in Nov and with no outdoor cooking space the beast and the Kettle over wintered in the garage.

This lady’s and gentlemen turned out to be a mistake.  A thick carpet of mold awaited me as I opened them.  This was the worst I’ve ever seen it, so bad not even burning it off worked first time round - so I’m having to season the smoker for a 2nd time today, and hopefully now they’re back outdoors this won’t happen again.

I have plans for this year, and those plans are sausage.  I’ve got all the bits to make my own hot links now, they’ll go nicely with smoked brisket.

Fish might be a struggle this year.  I used to go in the fantastic fishmongers in Kingswood, but that’s now an hours trip each way , and I don’t think there’s one near by.  While Sardines are still king of the grill (especially as a starter) that place also sold Swordfish steaks which are perfect for grilling.

  13. OP’s cringe as ****, and I say that as someone’s whose been “Manning in” since day one - the geezer needs until at least October before a reasonable position can be taken on if he deserves the post or not.
