  1. Am I the only one who is puzzled by his situation? And the lack of debate about it? What is this mystery bacterial infection, how did he get it, why does it possibly need surgery?  Perhaps he has dropped off the radar because we haven’t actually seen him play.

This illness seems potentially serious/lengthy yet isn’t really discussed. Or have I missed something?

    Completely reasonable response.

However his contract ran out on June 30th, his month’s pay in lieu of notice ran out on July 31st and next week it will be September.

He’s therefore had plenty of time to evaluate the market & we are within our rights to withdraw the offer (in reality we probably already had) & move on.

Sure, but it would also be completely reasonable if he came back now and accepted the offer. But I’m sure he will now move on and better our reduced offer.

Personally, if one of my guys came to me and said "Boss, I'm going to leave. I can get more money elsewhere" then two months later came back and said "Can I have my old job back? No one wanted me" I'd not re-employ him.

This seems particularly harsh! Surely it was more like,

”So, Tomas, do you want to stay, we’d like you to… “

”Great, yes please, I’m happy here”

”Fine, how does 50% of your current pay sound”

”Ah, well, perhaps I’d better check if that’s the best available first “

Long time reader, first time speaker-upper

Keep reading rubbish about acoustics. The Bombanera hasn't even got a flipping roof..

Do you know what would improve the acoustics? Singing.

If you don't sing - YOU are the problem

If you don't even clap along to the songs - YOU are the problem

It's not up to the club to change that. It's up to YOU

Most football fans don’t sing - never have, never will, only a small minority. Atmosphere is generated by exciting football, simple as.

You are in the majority in saying this so my point is a general one rather than aimed at you but I'm curious as to how this difference shows itself apart from the obvious physical one.

I don't see any difference in formations, tactics etc for instance. Would a woman coaching a men's team have to learn a whole new set of coaching skills? Or indeed would a man have to do the same if he took over a women's team?

I'm open to persuasion but I would need somebody to explain the difference rather than just assert it.

Tend to agree. Women’s football used to be very poor, but to my untrained eye it looks very similar to the men’s game now. Certainly the quality of some matches in the WC has been well above many I’ve seen at Ashton Gate over the last couple of seasons.

I would say the two words were fairly interchangeable to be honest, there are many other things that are worse in that statement.

Obligated is generally considered an Americanism not used in formal British English, where we use obliged. But like so many others, we are slipping into using it more often.

Why not open an account? It’s simple and you don’t have to comment on anything, just read what you think is relevant to you. It’s no different in that respect to being here. Best to avoid anything political though!

One of their posters claims we’ve stagnated in the championship and only get crowds of 12-15,000 these days ??‍♂️ That’s odd considering we’ve got just shy of 15,000 season ticket holders! ??‍♂️

This is the old argument about tickets sold v. actual bums on seats.

Elliot Anderson was a huge success for BRFC, winning national plaudits, and Barton has a good eye for a midfielder.

BRFC signed two promising players from Chelsea before - Colkett and Clarke-Salter. Great things were expected of the former, but he struggled to live up to the physical demands of the league and had his loan cancelled early before briefly resurfacing at Swindon.

The latter didn't live up to the billing, but subsequently became a championship-level player (QPR, mind)

With the exception of a very few, it is extremely hard to tell at this stage if players will make it.

The new owner seems to be an unknown quantity. It will be interesting to see if he is willing to put in funds to follow the Fruitihad dream and upgrade the team. And will Wael be sidelined now he’s just a minority shareholder?

Everyone complaining about the morgage rate now, in 1982 I bought my first house and the morgage rate was 18%, mind you the house only cost £13,500, still a lot of money in those days though!

I bought my first flat about 1980 but worked for a bank. Couldn’t believe my good fortune getting a staff mortgage at 5% - now that’s considered high!
