Think it's a good calculated risk by Gerrard, Rangers were fantastic last season but don't look like equalling their points tally this season or how far they got in Europe. Villa are underachieving in the prem too despite losing Grealish. Premier league is the deep end compared to the SPL but I believe he has picked a good club and will be hard seeing him get a better offer come along anytime soon, especially if his Rangers record looks more average in future.

Shame that Celtic and Rangers have become stepping stones for mid table prem clubs because they are both massive clubs but money talks. ?

I wonder if Gerrard has enough experience to look any better than the likes of Ole, Lampard, Arteta etc (the good players, average managers club). If a clubs doesn't want to compete with their rivals financially for a couple of seasons then I see these type of appointments being made, will be interesting to see if Villa spend to take them to the next level or not.

Steven Gerrard has already achieved more as a manager than any of those 3.

Wasn't it Derek Riordan (or something like that) which prompted the thread in the classics section?

Yep. There is a thread in the classic section about it.

Amusing to read the responses here, and the speculation about the manager's health - see my separate thread, in which my question about Pearson's long-term health results in getting slaughtered.

What's Gould supposed to say? By law, you can't get rid of someone who's legitimately ill without their consent. And there's a lot of uncertainty and unknowns about long COVID (if that's what it is*). So he's hardly going to announce on air that we're binning an employee.

You can actually. You need a clear sickness policy around capability due to health and usually need medical advice around how long the person is going to be off and the likelihood of resuming full duties.

I reckon BS4 and me had the same source directly / indirectly.  And I know Dave Barton has shown an “interest” in him in the past.

Having said that I don’t think this was a trap.  Looks like a 2+2=5 around a combination of events, e.g. libellous rumour that started at about 8am yesterday, RG doing a club media video, requesting to go on 20Man and another rumour of a press conference being called too which Gregor was said to have confirmed.

Interestingly, Gregor didn’t a tweet thing yesterday. I think he is well and truly out of the loop and will have to Rely on writing opinion pieces. Seems a strange career move to go freelance.

  5. I agree with those who are saying it feels like Pearson is trying to run the whole club, as he is the only ‘football man’ we have.

    Appoint a DoF/supporting director

    Appoint a Head of Recruitment.

    Appoint Craig Shakespeare.

Buy/loan some short term ‘Warnock’ type players to ensure we don’t get relegated eg the Shaun Derry/Sol Bamba type players that Warnock would usually bring in when trying to turn the tide.

    Dont appoint Warnock.

I feel bad for his husband,

I know I would very upset if my wife posted something like this on social media.

Believe he is single. If he is/was married, the thing the people are pointing out are his behaviour as a club employee, not as a husband or gay man.

On the Twitter thread people are saying he did a few sackable things in his first season. Anyone know what that’s all about?.

I think he asked a young female child if she came to watch the players with nice legs….or something like that.
