!James thank you , you information about how to turn updates etc on, on an IPhone, meant that this pensioner and her husband added their tickets with no hassle. That is what I love about this sight , the way that someone will always help you, if they can.

    No problem, happy to help!

    What is NFC?

NFC, which is short for near-field communication, is a technology that allows devices like phones and smartwatches to exchange small bits of data with other devices and read NFC-equipped cards over relatively short distances.

Brilliant idea by the Club. Except that anyone with an Android phone is unlikely to have NFC, whatever that is. so cannot use it.

Back to them and us if it ever did cease!

Almost all modern Android devices have NFC...? ("Android 10 and iOS 13 were released in 2019, and both can run on most smartphones going back to at least 2017. That means that nearly any phone made in the last six years should be able to offer full NFC support")

Which Android version or phone are you talking about?!

Genuine question, what's Google wallet? Don't have it/never used it. I've got a smartphone but I'm not techy at all. I don't know how half of it works.

Have a read - basically a digital wallet that holds payment cards, loyalty cards, concert tickets and now season tickets... you just enable NFC, and use your phone contactless to pay or access places like you would with a card

If I can't attend a game and want to give my ticket to someone else, but they don't have a smartphone, what then?

Full details will follow, they will have to have a Bristol Sport account for you to forward it on. Might be the option of a print at home ticket/PDF as well as digital.

I can see this being great - as long as they continue to allow physical tickets for people that want them.

Expect an extra cost for these next season though... most clubs that do digital tickets charge around a £10 for a physical card

How do I check that on my iPhone? I can’t see it in the wallet settings?

For iPhones, go to your Apple Wallet and onto the season pass. In the corner, there will be a circle with three dots, click this and on the next page make sure "Automatic Updates" is enabled, then pull down on the page to refresh/update the pass:

Not that i'm one of the worriers on here, but I spent half an hour googling Android wallet automatic updates (How to) yesterday and in the end gave up.

In Google Wallet, click the 3 lines in the corner, and go to Settings. Towards the bottom enable "Updates about your passes":

But we don’t know yet if you have to do that before you’ve added it to your wallet or if you’ve already added it it’s too late.

You only add it once, its there for the season now.

But how does that work in practice?

The person who has the tickets on the phone has to stand there and tap it whilst the other person squeezes by?

It's not really a squeeze, the scanner is on the top at the front. One person can stand there and scan the tickets through without causing a queue. It's not like the old style turnstiles!

Because, i only have my kids at weekends. And i let other people use the kids tickets for midweek matches, or the kids go with other people.

Dont leave me with much flexibility.

Like @ralphindevonsaid above it makes it much easier now to transfer the tickets online rather than having to hand over and then collect a physical ticket... anyway just a thought!

Says on there, for kids tickets, they will have to go on my phone.

Hopefully they will let me have physical tickets, for my kids tickets

Why can't you just add them onto yours? Pretty straightforward, same as adding all your families boarding passes on one phone, just flick to the next one and go through

Exactly. I guess the reasons for changing is ease of use and costs. If everyone requested one because they are sentimental over a bit of plastic that will drive costs up again

I think what will happen next season if the demand is too high is doing what other clubs seem to be doing and charging an extra £10 if they want a physical season card.

    Exactly this.

I hope that only those who cannot function without a physical card will ask for one, otherwise additional costs will filter down to everyone sooner or later.

From reading posts on here and on social media there's going to be a lot of people requesting a physical one purely because they don't like change rather than not having a smartphone etc

I have nearly every season ticket card or booklet since the 70's i have them as a keepsake. I do not have a printer at home to print the 1st four matches and also i do not have a Google Wallet so i shall be asking for a season card to be sent out

Can you not just download Google wallet if you have an Android phone? Pretty handy app

     PHASED DIGITAL TICKETING

Ashton Gate Stadium will be adopting a phased approach to Digital Tickets for City home fixtures. Match tickets for the first four home matches will be Print at Home tickets rather than Digital Tickets.

All Season Ticket holders will be sent their Digital Season Ticket with instruction to add to their Apple Wallet or Google Wallet in the coming weeks.

There are a number of posters on here who are interested in statistics - I’d like to see how many long throws actually lead directly to a goal.

I can’t see that they’re particularly effective, particularly in the Championship and we rarely, if ever see them in the PL.………….:dunno:

    https://www.espn.co.uk/football/story/_/id/37583230/how-rory-delap-long-throw-ins-ruffled-arsene-wenger-parka-showed-us-all-their-importance

"According to Stats Perform data, Delap directly assisted on five Premier League goals from throw-ins, and Stoke City as a whole have scored 24 goals from those situations. Since 2008-09, no other player has more than two direct throw-in assists, and no other club has scored more than 12 goals from throw-ins. In other words, Delap and Stoke were at least twice as effective at this aspect of the game when compared to any of their competitors.

Taylor charted all of Delap's throw-ins in his first four seasons with the club, and he found that Stoke scored 25 league goals from throws taken by the Irishman (even if they weren't considered direct assists). In the 2007-08 season in the Championship, a then-31-year-old Delap's throws led to goals eight times -- six of which came while the game was tied. According to Taylor's study, Delap's throws added about six points to Stoke's total, which ended up being the difference between automatic promotion and a spot in the playoffs."

It wouldn’t make difference if they were banned - I remember only one City goal scored from a long throw when Flint headed in against Cardiff.

In my opinion long throws are pretty ineffective especially higher up the leagues you go.

Didn't work out too badly for Stoke though... :cool2:
