  1. May 2nd 2001. Wycombe sent Bristol Rovers hurtling into the Third Division with a 2-1 victory at The Memorial Stadium. I was there that night in 1990. The date came back to bite them on the arse though. May 2nd 2001, the last day that Bristol Rovers were in the same division as Bristol City. Happy May 2nd everyone !
  2. It may be an odd phrase, but I don't think that alone is conclusive proof of unconscious bias. If he had a history of these "mishaps" (I don't know if he has) then I think that would be different.
  3. Was it unconscious bias? If it was a different player involved he may well have said the same thing. Was it just an unfortunate turn of phrase made in a split second, that every one of us has done at some point? An unfortunate perfect storm situation rather then an unconscious but premeditated thought.
  4. St Johns Lane looks a bit more substantial on that map. It could just be a quirk of the map, but Ashton Gate looks like it's in a slightly different location to what we have today, though the stand indicated on the map looks like the same a shape as the one that pre-dated the Dolman. If it was also a cricket ground it was presumably 3 sided ?
  5. I liked the bit at the end when he said his priority was to get players in and ready by the time the players come back from the break. Sounds like there's business ready to go nice and early. We've done well in the past when we we've got players in early. I thought it was a case of we buy, once we've sold Scott. Sounds more like we buy, and if we sell Scott we buy a bit more.
  6. They could nip down the road and buy it at Ikea
  7. Agree with this. Though I'd like to see us in and around the top 10 all season with a chance of top 6, not just sneaking 10th at the end.
  8. Looks like the Bath & West Showground.
  9. When I think back to the facilities we used to have (stadium and training ground) and how the academy has come on, I've got no complaints. My concern is whether his heart is still in it.
  10. Can a king also be a patron saint? Although not technically the first king of England, Alfred the Great largely paved the way to a united England. I can't say I know much at all about St George (beyond Two Mile Hill !)
  11. Why don't we try it? Use some money from the council to buy some better players, our league position improves, crowds go up, more money is spent in the local area. That's before we even consider the mental health benefits.
  12. I remember going to Wolves when they were in the middle of their own triple drop, and guess what, they beat us
  13. We haven't seen the best of them yet, they're still settling in. A forward could leave and another come in. A midfielder could make all the difference for us in the final third. I'm as frustrated as anyone, I've see them about 15 times this season and only seen one win, but I believe we're on the verge of something good.
  14. Only a few games to go. It's frustrating, but we know the final third is a problem and without additional personnel, that will continue to be the case. Nige has sorted things out elsewhere, I trust him to fix/improve the final third for next season. There's so many good things, a few tweaks and it'll all feel different.
  15. Unlikely but if we did win, it might put a spanner in the works for them. They could find themselves 3rd before they next kick a ball in the league. They'd have games in hand but it could get a bit nervy. As we know, teams can chuck it away at the death.
  16. Wonder if "Robin in Yeovil" is still enjoying his football.
  17. Think Southampton and Forest will go down. Looking at their fixtures and outside of when they play each other, I can see Everton and Leicester picking up 6/7 points each, so it could all come down to that Leicester v Everton match. If Everton can avoid defeat, that might be enough for them, a Leicester win may see them go down. But Everton will get the luck, they always do. They are starting to remind me of Lennie Lawrences Charlton, always just about getting away with it !
  18. Looks like he was with Liverpool and Spurs when he was younger. Looks a bit too good to still be in league 2 at 29.
  19. Definitely worth a further look based on that.

  21. I'm not into the name calling of our own players either. I also don't know why people keep bringing up Bentley or comparing him with Max. It's irrelevant, he doesn't play for us any more. Looking forward, do I think it's an area we need to improve to be more than mid table, certainly. He's done well, but I think he's our first choice more out of necessity (as with other areas on the pitch). At the moment, for me, he's a more than capable backup, but it's an area where we will strengthen. I was surprised to see Max is 26. If he had his current physical presence at age 20/21 I would probably see it a bit differently. That said, keepers can come into their own well into their 30's. Maybe he needs to eat a few more doughnuts !
  22. I'm coming from a is he good enough to take us forward view, rather than comparing him with Bentley. He certainly goes for it more than him, which is preferable, but that on it's own isn't enough. He sometimes hesitates and finds himself no mans land, that's what I mean about commanding. He isn't physically big/strong enough for us to go to the next step. Just my observation, but I don't hate him !
