  1. When I think back to the facilities we used to have (stadium and training ground) and how the academy has come on, I've got no complaints. My concern is whether his heart is still in it.
  2. Can a king also be a patron saint? Although not technically the first king of England, Alfred the Great largely paved the way to a united England. I can't say I know much at all about St George (beyond Two Mile Hill !)
  3. Why don't we try it? Use some money from the council to buy some better players, our league position improves, crowds go up, more money is spent in the local area. That's before we even consider the mental health benefits.
  4. I remember going to Wolves when they were in the middle of their own triple drop, and guess what, they beat us
  5. We haven't seen the best of them yet, they're still settling in. A forward could leave and another come in. A midfielder could make all the difference for us in the final third. I'm as frustrated as anyone, I've see them about 15 times this season and only seen one win, but I believe we're on the verge of something good.
  6. Only a few games to go. It's frustrating, but we know the final third is a problem and without additional personnel, that will continue to be the case. Nige has sorted things out elsewhere, I trust him to fix/improve the final third for next season. There's so many good things, a few tweaks and it'll all feel different.
  7. Unlikely but if we did win, it might put a spanner in the works for them. They could find themselves 3rd before they next kick a ball in the league. They'd have games in hand but it could get a bit nervy. As we know, teams can chuck it away at the death.
  8. Wonder if "Robin in Yeovil" is still enjoying his football.
  9. Think Southampton and Forest will go down. Looking at their fixtures and outside of when they play each other, I can see Everton and Leicester picking up 6/7 points each, so it could all come down to that Leicester v Everton match. If Everton can avoid defeat, that might be enough for them, a Leicester win may see them go down. But Everton will get the luck, they always do. They are starting to remind me of Lennie Lawrences Charlton, always just about getting away with it !
  10. Looks like he was with Liverpool and Spurs when he was younger. Looks a bit too good to still be in league 2 at 29.
  11. Definitely worth a further look based on that.
  12. The home games I've been able to get to QPR Lost 1-2 Coventry Drew 0-0 Sheff U Lost 0-1 Lincoln Lost 1-3 Watford Drew 0-0 Stoke Lost 1-2 WBA Lost 0-2 Blackburn Drew 1-1 Norwich Won 1-0 Yesssss Man C Lost 0-3 Reading Drew 1-1
  13. I'm not into the name calling of our own players either. I also don't know why people keep bringing up Bentley or comparing him with Max. It's irrelevant, he doesn't play for us any more. Looking forward, do I think it's an area we need to improve to be more than mid table, certainly. He's done well, but I think he's our first choice more out of necessity (as with other areas on the pitch). At the moment, for me, he's a more than capable backup, but it's an area where we will strengthen. I was surprised to see Max is 26. If he had his current physical presence at age 20/21 I would probably see it a bit differently. That said, keepers can come into their own well into their 30's. Maybe he needs to eat a few more doughnuts !
  14. I'm coming from a is he good enough to take us forward view, rather than comparing him with Bentley. He certainly goes for it more than him, which is preferable, but that on it's own isn't enough. He sometimes hesitates and finds himself no mans land, that's what I mean about commanding. He isn't physically big/strong enough for us to go to the next step. Just my observation, but I don't hate him !
  15. He certainly goes for it more than Bentley, but not really commanding. A commanding keeper takes everyone out including the ball! Nige is rarely specific about where we need to improve, but I'm sure he'll sort it.
  16. It's not just the last mistake, he's not commanding enough generally and teams know it. He's not terrible, but will fall victim to the small improvements of an improving side over the Summer I believe.
  17. He's a back up keeper at best. I'm sure this will be addressed in the Summer.
  18. In those 6 seasons they've pretty much covered our entire history! Much like Chelsea, the last 25 years represents their best league performance in their history and they've had 23 managers in that time. Strange how changing manager every five minutes seems to work reasonably well for some clubs and for others it's a disaster.
  19. "the Umpire Strikes Back!" Quite like this summary of the situation
  20. Yesterday was the best I've seen him play for us since signing. He also operates in an area where our play looks least defined. We don't have that purpose/telepathy in the final third. That needs to evolve when Scott and others leave and new players come in, hopefully Cornick will play a part in that.
  21. I think he's part of the whole final third puzzle that needs sorting. The good news is he does have ability. He also floated in some good crosses that we should have done better with. I think there's a lot more to come from him.
  22. Unfortunately I don't have an intimate knowledge of the Reading team, but I saw basic mistakes all over the place from them. They looked nervous at times and made poor decisions, some of which was caused by us, which is good. Large parts of our game are improving and I'm supportive of Pearson and think/hope we'll continue to improve. I know it's not all about one game, but we carelessly threw points away today and I don't think we should shy away from that, we're better than that now. I know that's how it goes sometimes, but we should have put them to the sword and the fact that we didn't was what made it not good enough for me today.
  23. Agreed. Reading looking like a team with about 6 players making their debut. They were appalling and we should have smashed them out of site. No excuses for that, just not good enough.
