Is there anyone else with as small a squad as ours and are they dealing with the same amount of injuries? Is it fair now that questions are asked given Holden, his physios and co were automatically assumed incompetent when similar numbers were being dealt with in the treatment room?

Almost all of the players who are out got their injuries playing for the team. If I remember rightly there were an awful lot of training injuries previously. That, I think, is the difference.

  2. Probably doesn’t matter much who the manager is if you continually sell your best players for about £80 million and sign mainly lower league players to replace them. Your likely to be mediocre in the championship with a lower mid table finish, at best, the probable outcome

  3. Apart from a few flashes of brilliance when he signed Mehmeti has looked a poor signing. After the first couple of appearances his form last season was IMHO poor. Many said wait until he has a pre-season with City. He’s had that now and so far he’s no better, possibly worse.
The same regarding a pre season was said about Cornick, again he’s no better than last season.
Pearson says he won’t make signings unless the players are better than we already have. Based on what I’ve seen so far I can’t see it with respect to Mehmeti or Cornick. Fingers crossed that they improve significantly as the season progresses.

Firstly I really like BB’s stuff, haven’t watched yet, will do next.

The thing a lot of people do when they do these things is look at who each club has signed, but not enough duty is paid to who has left.

Its why I do my churn table:

(for info any player who left but has re-signed isn’t included, so it’s fair, e.g. Sanderson)

(for any player who’s been offered a contract but yet to sign, they are included, e.g. Kalas)

    image.png.d56da558d439a28ff493fd7c25c9d683.png

And in particular Birmingham, who are getting a bit of backing based on their incomings.

    But to delve deeper:

    image.png.ca69eb1dc2732d9ecde169457ce2f68d.png

They’ve lost the equivalent of 4.5/10 outfield players.

Sanderson, Long and Bielik were already here, so they’ve brought in:

Laird, Anderson, Myoshi, Dembele and Roberts

    whilst losing:

    Chong, Trusty, Hannibal, Deeney, etc.

Now, maybe it’s me, but do Brum look stronger than last season….not to me they don’t.  Yet I bet most pundits will have them higher than last season’s 17th.  I don’t think the evidence is there.

Whereas for us, we’ve only really lost Dasilva, yet brought in four.  Not just numbers, but I think we look stronger as a result.

    image.png.c5ac946b1c83acc334663e9c983e4a01.png

It’s a pretty much impossible job to predict right, but there is the usual big-club bias in amongst it.

I wish I had this level of insight.

So you slag the lad off for a lacklustre performance . Have you considered what possibly might be going on in his head. For all we know clubs could have been in contact , had his head turned . He might be worried about getting injured before a big move . He’s 19 ffs . I was right , pathetic

Odd to believe that someone who who has an opinion differing from your own, on a platform which is all about opinions, is pathetic.
IMHO Scotts performance yesterday was possibly his worst I’ve seen him play for us. At the game I was advocating for him to be replaced at ht as again, IMHO, he was playing like he didn’t want to be out there.

He didn’t, he just had a poor game on the ball.  Without the ball, especially opening first half hour, he was excellent in working with the rest of the front 3 to prsss Burnley into several mistakes..

Dave I wholly respect your knowledge and your insight but surely it’s no coincidence that Scott’s performance today was as poor as Scotts played since he’s come into the team. I accept that all players have an off day but in my opinion that performance can’t be excused an off day.

If I was looking really hard for body language today as to whether he’s off, I’d say there was a moment with Andy King (and his wife and kids) near the end of the lap of honour, where he gave them a big hug as if to say “thanks Football dad”, knowing he’s off.

    Might be nothing at all.

FWIW I think he’s deserved all the fuss, he’s been an absolute joy to watch, he’s carried us at times.  He’s allowed an off day against the best team in the league.

He’s not allowed to down tools though.

Every player has strengths and weaknesses but those are harsh comments Spudski which could apply to pretty much anny attack minded  player.

To me his strengths massively outweigh his weaknesses and why his name is one of the first on the team sheet,

Based on last nights performance is there any chance you could list his strengths?

I was at the Luton game. He was absolutely awful. Ran around a bit (pretty slowly and with little to no acceleration), was 5 yards off of everything and was blowing out his arse after 20 mins.

He was trying I can blame a lack of effort so fair play to him on that front but either we've been sold a dud or he is wildly unfit.

Two Luton fans I spoke to after the game reckon he's been a dud for a couple of seasons and couldn't believe we took him off their hands for money.

I too was at the Luton game. I spoke to 3 separate groups of Luton fans before the game. Was at least a dozen people and none of them had anything negative to say about Cornick. There’s no doubt about it though he’s been, on the whole, poor for us. I can’t see what he brings to the team at the moment. I certainly hope that changes and will be happy to be proven wrong.

I agree with you with us being so unlucky to have so many key players out . Even so it did seem bizarre to pair king with TC , especially considering we knew there would be long periods of play where Swans would have the ball . Scott should of been paired with either of King or TC ,We have Sykes, Mehmeti, weimann ( maybe Cornick too?)  all who can play in the no.10 role.

I don't think much of our defence deserved much credit but boy am I glad Vyner didn't get injured, him and Scott have 37 and 38 appearances each. We definitely miss Pring playing at LB.

Shame our luck with pens has gone back to normal.

We certainly do miss Pring at left back. Three times Swansea picked out JD as the weakness in the air at the far post. On each occasion the Swansea player easily beat JD in the air and created a dangerous situation.

Defensively I agree. But his distribution has been very poor today. As has Dasilva's albeit in a different way - he just seems unable to see his colleagues making runs into space - its so frustrating that several times a simple ball by him would have set up a break, but he just misses it, takes another touch, plays it back.

Vyner distribution not poor but perhaps not of the very high standard of a few weeks ago.
