…and if we aren’t in the bottom three (currently 18th btw) what is your opinion then?  That he is the right choice?

I think it’s clear you ain’t a Pearson fan (and that’s fine), so why come up with scenarios, just say you’d rather he wasn’t here.  It doesn’t need “if this” and “if that” for you really does it?

Thats not me having a go at you, it’s just your view on Nige is pretty clear, just come out and say it.

Dave I desperately want Pearson to be a successful City manager. Why the hell should I want anything different. Trouble is his record suggests otherwise.

That isn’t what I said. He isn’t immune from criticism. In fact I was annoyed at his team selection on Tuesday and he should have taken the blame for it. But we have to be realistic at the same time currently. Gone are the days when we could spend  money and improve the situation that way. Whoever comes in will have exactly the same challenges and problems Pearson faces with a paper thin squad and no money to spend. I don’t believe there is someone out there who, on our budget, we can attract who will magically make the situation better.

Actually I think Pearson is playing quite a tough role of laying down foundations with the playing of many youth players.

Relegation is clearly unacceptable for us but I back us to be ok based on his record to date and the way the team have played in many games lately.

Dare I say wishful thinking. 2wins and just 11 goals in the last 13 games with 10 points from the last 39 would suggest otherwise. What do you think will change to improve Pearsons win ratio?

dont disagree with that, you must also agree also that our recent points tally is not great in fact relegation form; playing like world beaters will mean jackshit if we dont convert dominance into points pretty soon.

Football is full of teams where many fans of those teams believe them too good to be relegated.

Who exactly can you bring in who will get anything better out of these players with no money available? I think Pearson is doing ok overall and actually we haven’t really had the rub of the green lately. Outplayed SU and Watford yet got 1 point.

Oh well if we’re in the bottom 3 at the turn of the year let’s all just shrug our shoulders and believe that Pearson is the best we can hope for.

    Absolutely ridiculous comment mate.

He’s a bloody good player who is unappreciated by a fair few.

I watched the highlights earlier, first two passages of play, excellent goalkeeping by Max but who then gets in a brilliant block on the edge of our box? James.

Next one, superb double save by Max then guess who is in position to cut out a pass that would have been an easy chance? James again.

He isn’t coasting to retirement, he puts it in game after game. Integral.

There are many strands to being a decent midfielder. Goals and assists are two of them. Our midfield doesn’t do either.

Ian wouldn't be impressed if we signed Messi.?.........he'd say he doesn't tackle back enough?  Didn't think anyone could be more downbeat than the Gaymeister?      But having just listened to the Boro'  podcast.......It's obvious to hear that Les is also a little ray of sunshine? ?

If you have nothing constructive or insightful to say then why even bother?

You do realise that we were crap and have 9 points from the last 36?

Been very poor last few games imo. Course for concern? Just a blip or in need of a rest do we think? Seems to of lost his swagger

Not poor but needs to improve his dead ball delivery.

Maybe it's an age thing. I couldn't give a flying **** how Cardiff are doing. As far as I'm concerned having watched City since 1967-68 and been at school with and worked with their lot, especially through the 1980's, and endured the 1990 title debacle, my feelings for Cardiff don't come anywhere close to how I absolutely despise the cesspit dwelling gaseous parasites. Their result is the only one I look for after ours. I want them relegated to non league asap, or to cease to exist.

Very well said. Pretty much my thoughts exactly having watched City since 1957 and am still to get over 1990.

Rovers haven’t been proper rivals for years tbh . In mine and my mates lifetimes we can only remember playing them in the jpt 2-1 game . Until we start playing each other again Cardiff are our derby games , even Swindon have given us a derby in recent years .

There is only one derby mate and it’s not Cardiff, Swansea or Swindon. I suppose those teams could be classified as rivals. We haven’t had a Bristol derby for years and I’m happy for it to stay that way.

I am assured there were at least 4 members of the team that made it out there, that were ill for most of the week. I am pretty sure Semenyo was one of them, I also think that Wells showed his experience in the way he paced himself through out the game. At a guess I would say that Scott was another and maybe even Matty James (see my comments for Wells). I thought James really showed his worth today, btw. Not only in his own performance but the way he helped organise the midfield and forward line

I don’t think James had had too many better games for us than he had yesterday. Passed the ball well and made a couple of excellent tackles.

Martin comes on when the other forwards are totally knackered closing down for 75 minutes. He wins headers, occupies two defenders while doing it and is a very clever at the dark arts which he demonstrated admirably at West Brom. I'm sorry if you can't appreciate this.

Do you think so. I don’t.

  13. 4 minutes ago, Davefevs said:

I thought Martin did perfectly fine when he came on.  Won a couple of headers, got the ball in space in the channel, etc.

Dear me Dave I wholly respect your view  but the bar must be set very low. Any forward momentum or closing down went out of the team when CM came on.  Surly you could see that.

  14. Just listened to the 3 Peaps in a podcast review of the Reading game. In my opinion the views expressed by the contributors were broadly similar to that expressed on FBC. Spoke at length about our pitiful set piece delivery, shocking defending of set pieces, our dreadful lack of positive consistency of performance or progress under Pearson and comparisons with other clubs similar to ourselves. After listening to 3 Peaps I believe that perhaps FBC should no longer be considered the outlier for perceived negativity (I believe it to be realism not negativity) when discussing and reviewing City games.

No, I see them (generically) as 2 years further into their evolution than us, reaping the benefits of a good plan, recruitment, solid financial management etc.  Swansea had PPs don’t forget until this summer, we’re paying Ayew  £60-90k p.w!

Once again. It’s all one-sided argument, where are your thoughts on why we have won games, are sitting mid-table. If we were as you state, wouldn’t we we in the bottom three for example. We’re our tactics and coaching crap a few weeks back.

    ??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️

IMO we afford Pearson to many excuses. He gets a free pass despite the poor quality of performances and dreadful overall win ratio.

Would you say that generally our performances since the international break are bottom 3? 7 points from 7 games suggests that to me.

And 7 points from the last 9 games definitely is bottom 3 form.

Usually that results in us playing Lg1 football.

When we get past next summer, the OOC have left or re-signed new, reduced deals, we will likely have a squad where we can begin to trade again.  We aren’t there yet, we are looking in the middle aisle at Aldi / Lidl, hoping that a bargain comes along…and that we want.

We need to muddle on through til then.

Compate Bristol City squad to Reading squad, when all fit…we have lots of similar ability players to theirs, then they have Joao, Ejaria, Moore, Dann, Hendrick, all superior to anyone in ours on their day.  Okay you may dispute one or two, but I don’t think I’m being too “choosy”.

Would you say the same about the likes of Luton, Millwall, Preston, Swansea? If these types of clubs have stand out players better than ours then you have to wonder why. I know let’s blame Ashton and Johnson rather than look at the current management.
Let’s face it we are much too inconsistent and too easy to play against, that has to be down to the current tactics and coaching.

More to do with the players than NP

So if performance continue to be generally poor and we are in/near the relegation we just shrug are shoulders and put up with it do we? Pearsons win ratio doesn’t suggest to me that he is up to the job or knows what he’s doing (example the 3 subs yesterday and then bringing King on, expecting him to influence the game).

A couple of my thoughts to add to this debate: 1) I think the games coming thick and fast due to the stupidity of scheduling a winter World Cup is a big contributory factor to the inconsistency across the whole league, eg Blackburn being top with seven defeats already this season; 2) and this is by no means a criticism, but look what is Vyner doing for Reading’s first today?  He’s upped his game this year but he’s ball watching again and this is real weakness in his game, yet we have to pick him because of the lack of depth in the squad.

Vyner has been one of our most consistent players this season. Always good to have a scapegoat though.

Please , please , please why comments are made about no trust in Pearson, no trust in his coaching staff etc is there not a suggestion put forward. If an opinion is the manager needs to go then whoever has that view must have an idea of who to bring in.

Don’t agree. There is a group of people at Ashton Gate whose job it is to plan for the future, that should include having a plan if the manager leaves or is sacked. As a fan I can say what I want but it’s irrelevant. We have a very narrow view of who might be available or achievable.
I’m not advocating it but for years Watford have changed their manager sometimes several times a season. It hasn’t done them much harm. I wonder how many of their fans would have predicted their managers. Prior to their Premiere League promotions they were a club of similar size as us.
