  1. Flint and Pack were signed by SOD, for absolute buttons. They were established players by the time Cotts took over. Joe and Bobby both had first team experience. And Bobby had done very little. Rose tinted specs.
  2. Absolutely. We had some cracking LBs down the years, Scott among them. Liked a tackle, I recall...?
  3. I remember that game <<shudders>>, Collywobble absolutely destroyed us. Think it was 4-1? We were lucky it wasn't double figures.
  4. Guardian on Crawley owners Hipster with a beard = disaster in progress
  5. Sorry, I meant in the summer, when they are OOC
  6. How much would the financial position improve from the likes of Martin, Bents et al leaving at the end of their contracts?
  7. Nicky Hunt was in a world of problems, none football related, when he was with us - wasn't he suffering from some serious MH issues? I think we can give him a pass. Stuart Munro I recall being reasonable, if not outstanding. Compared to other team members at the time, he was absolutely golden.
  8. In all seriousness, I am yet to disagree with anything that @Davefevs posts, he seems a most sensible person.
  9. What can't be denied is we had a really robust defence back then, despite the total lack of decent players. Our team was sooooo poor then
  10. I'd have been curious to see who would have got the job had he left, but he seems to be a calming influence. Increasingly, it seems that a 'club' manager is not necessarily a good 'national' manager. But he does have the advantage of a truly exceptional group of players. Now, let's see some of the 'solid' old-stagers like Henderson (a player I like) and Maguire (jury's out) challenged or replaced. Bellingham, though, wow.
  11. That's politics, not economics. There is a concept in economics called 'market failure', which is where the market fails to provide appropriately for all consumers - which is why we need government to correct it by restructuring the market (eg increasing taxes, raising benefits, wages, etc). If we have food banks, that's because of the market failing and govt not correcting it. Don't blame economics for the failures of policy.
  12. How to say you don't understand economics, without saying it
  13. I think the Argies lost a few as well...and we didn't need to lose anyone, there was a diplomatic solution in progress, but Thatcher wanted the war to boost her popularity. At the time, almost no-one knew where the Falklands were. According to someone in the RAF that I used to know who was posted there, the locals in the Falklands hate the military who are there, and treat them like crap. Frankly, I think the Argentinians are welcome to the pointless rocks, and their ungrateful inhabitants. We'll take the saving on defence spending.
  14. I don't disagree, but we shouldn't need 'warm banks'. And don't get me started on food banks...
  15. It's 2022. It's pathetic that a wealthy nation like ours relies on charity to keep people warm ?
  16. ITV coverage is absolute toilet. Twatterfavevand McMoist... Dumb and Dumber
  17. Bayern must have laughed themselves sick. Wonderful player, bizarre accent
  18. Don't start me on them. The real 'gold' in there was Scholes, but all the focus was on Gerrard and Lampard. And Captain Moneybags. Where was Carrick in that equation? HE was the answer to the "Gerrard and Lampard" question: instead it should have been "Gerrard OR Lampard plus Carrick"
  19. That would be hilarious, would love to see Modric win the WC
  20. An 'engine room' player, then, like Carrick was?
