At half time decided to get a few jobs done around the house  to lift the depression that was settling over Chez Downend and only just come back online  to see how things have gone.

Have to say LJ must be bl00dy inspiring in the dressing room at half time. He has an inate ability to make changes that change the game.

P.S. How good a goalscorer is Abraham?

    P.P.S Kodjia - who?

Rafa Benitez said after last week's game that they played defensively because City had a manager who could change systems during a game, the implication being that most can't. Praise from a coach of his pedigree counts for a lot and reinforces the view that LJ is well respected in the game. SC had one system and would not change it whatever happened, a big part of his downfall.

I've bee saying it for weeks.

people have over estimated the strength of our starting XI, the quality of management and how far "momentum" would take the club.

    Improvements are needed fast

Improvements were needed in the summer. Instead we got months of nothing, followed by SL saying they didn't realise how much Championship players were paid, followed by panic attempts to sign strikers who were never going join us then last minute loans. Utter incompetence, all apparently down to Pelling since nobody else has admitted responsibility. Straightforward incompetence by all concerned as far as I can see. Any reason to assume it will be any better in January?

  3. Captain Hindsight.

As I was commenting on what has happened in the last few months you are correct of course. But if we're talking foresight I'm not sure anybody foresaw those events. The professional way things have been run by SC and KB would have led us to expect a rather smoother transition I think, if not some of the more wildly optimistic predictions. The way things have panned out so far is certainly a big surprise to me and I imagine to many. I wouldn't care to predict what happens next though. ;)

  4. The confusing mess that has been the transfer window, meaning we started the season with an inadequate squad, the tensions that appear to have arisen between manager and owner, 3 defeats and 9 goals conceded, fixated on an expensive striker when both our current strikers scored today and with Agard approaching full fitness, no indication of current efforts to strengthen other areas. The momentum seems to have halted and the smooth professional operation suddenly looks rather less so. Shot and foot come to mind.

  5. @alidurdenBBC: Owner Steve Lansdown admits #BristolCity taken aback by demands of clubs and players this summer. Still "2-3 players light at this stage."

Don't think it was 2-3 on the way, more like 2-3 more short at the moment.

Thanks for clarifying. If we were taken aback it suggests that we didn't do much research. Given we were promoted in good time we should have been well prepared for the transfer window. Instead we seem to have been taken by surprise, with no guarantee we wil get the 2 or 3 we need. It amounts to saying "We had no idea what wages and fees were paid in the Championship". Surprised Steve admitted as much, as it belies the slick professional approach to recruitment we thought was now in place.

  6. Might be a blessing in disguise losing today. Put to bed any of that 'we'll continue where we let off' rubbish. It's not going to be that easy and this will have been a big wake up call as to how we need to adapt to suit.

Quite. We have a bottom 6 budget. Doesn't mean that is where we will finish but it's a reasonable guide to what our expectations should be, including getting used to losing a lot more.

  7. I think everyone is over reacting here, we have just faced one of the best sides in the league, and were doing so again. If tonight's scores stay the same, we'll only be a win off of the safety spots. A win on Saturday(yes that'll nene we have to win) and we could be out of the relegation spots, with a game in hand on a couple of the teams around.

Let's just hope we don't get absaloutly hammered tonight, so we don't lose all of our confidence

The point that this misses is that yet again the problem is crass errors by the same culprits not the brilliance of the opposition.

  8. Unfortunately, we just cannot seem to get a squad that works, we have tried 3 managers, and various formations and players, but for whatever reason, we seem to be full of errors. Now of course errors make chances, but we seem to be the most adept team over 4 seasons at playing ourselves into trouble. Take Saturday, or another own goal by Flint, the terrible Gillet pass. I mean how as a manager can you deal with that, what can you do ? I genuinely cannot recall a period in my years (40) of watching City where I have seen us make so many self inflicted errors. I have seen us be poor due to lack of ability, beaten by better sides, have  squad ruined by injury, a one off wrong tactical choice, freak goals, but never ever have I seen game in game out comical defending and continual basic errors. Never. But it covers many managers, god knows how many players. It is not normal.

Still, all we can do is stick together, this is a time when all of us, players , fans and manager have to get backs to the wall. it will not be pretty, it will be rough, but we need to keep our sorry arses in this league, and we won't do that by falling out with each other. At home games, fans have to give it their all, that is all we can do, and then end of season someone really needs to work out the curse that is BCFC :-(

A lot of hard work needed.

Remember the days when half the people on this board thought Orr, McAllister and McCombe weren't good enough? Since then we have had 5 managers who wouldn't know a good defender if they fell over one and the longest unbroken chain of crap central defenders on record. Players taking the piss while taking the fans' and Steve's money and getting away with it is now the established culture.

  9. Will another midfielder track back? Maybe another defender and play 5 at the back.

Barnett up front who will track back and drop into midfield.

If jet isn't going to track back and help we are basically playing with 10.

I think Baldock now has more league goals than jet so he is playing ok, still missing chances but chases back and helps the midfield.

We can't keep playing with 10 men and let teams have space all the time.

Defence starts from the forwards and only 1 of them is defending.

It seems to me it is likely to make little difference if defenders keep giving away goals with individual errors. An endless stream of signings by successive managers has improved nothing in that respect. I struggle to remember a period when we had so many bad defenders. That is what is likely to take us down again, not JET.

  10. 2 wins in 8 since sod has gone. That isn't going to be good enough to keep us.

If we lose Tuesday we are going to start being adrift at the bottom and playing catch up.

I say we need to drop jet and have 11 players on the pitch who work for 90mins.

Whatever Jet's faults it's not him giving away goals every week. I'm not sure replacing him with another midfielder who won't defend will make much difference anyway.
