  1. Really undecided at the present. Haven't come away from AG after a game with a spring in my step for years. I know that can change in an instant but its the hope that kills. I'm getting on a bit now and don't want to stop doing things that I won't restart. That makes it sound like a habit, which it is. But it's a habit I used to enjoy and look forward to and I just don't anymore. Can somebody give me some encouragement please????

Some run they are on in fairness carry it on they could even finish champions.

Absolutely . Fair play and credit where its due. You can only play against what's put in front of you and they are flying. Yes its league 2 but we didn't mind bragging when we were flying in league 1. If they come up then the test gets harder but they look a good bet for promotion on current form. Let's see what happens first. We are in no position to gloat.

What’s the rule in relation to goalkeepers taking drop kicks? I’d swear the Birmingham keeper last home game had his kicking foot and the ball a good yard outside the area when he released it. Is there a similar rule about the standing foot being on the line? Or do linesmen just not look for that now?

They are in line with the last defender so they never watch it now. I thought the Brummie keeper was well outside his box several times.

Another thing to mention was the Boro fans respecting the AG8 . Thought that was nice .

Thought their fans respect was brilliant both before the game and on 8 minutes when they had just gone a goal down. Well done Boro fans.

I think the pre match presentation of the 8 was well organised and received which possibly spurred on the crowd and the players on an emotional afternoon.

As an aside, what was the music that was playing when the 8 were presented to the crowd before ko?  I couldn't hear it clearly but thought it was quite rousing.  Well done to all yesterday.

    PS. Surfer flag was awesome.

I trust Pearson and his team to spend the money a lot more wisely than LJ and the car salesman did though.

I genuinely am of the opinion in the correct hands the money we received for Webster, Reid, Flint Brownhill etc would and should have propelled us to promotion or at least a shot at the play offs.

Let’s not judge Nige and his team on the horrendous standards of the previous regime. We have already seen in the signings of Atkinson and Tanner what Nige is about in the transfer market. He clearly has an eye for a player.

I agree that Nige will have a better eye for the right player and I would trust him to find the right blend. My worry is whether he will be given the funds to do so if we sale our assets just to clear the debt.

  6. We could balance the books with a hefty residue if we sell our top players, Massengo, Scott, Semenyo, Pring, Benarous, possibly raising as much as 70 million plus for the lot but next year we will be fighting a relegation battle to stay out of League 1. We have to change our approach and ambition. Summer 2023 could see few of the present squad remaining unless we become more ambitious.

Unfortunately, it's entirely possible that we will have to sell players just to stand still in FFP terms.

I see that as exactly what will happen but what is the point then. The roundabout we are on will have us standing still forever if we dont change our approach.  The way things are means we will never compete at the highest level. The club dream seems to be "hope for the best." Selling our best will mean our best hope is to be in a relegation battle in the Prem.  What sort of dream is that?

But it's impossible to build round them as the books are unbalanced and we need to sell them to balance them,

How can we build round them if there's no money to do so?

What happens when say arsenal comes in and we turn bids down, the player is then upset and half hearted, which is a further detrement to the squad

It's not as easy as just keep them and build round them, in fact it's probably impossible with the level of interest reported

I agree with all that you say Monkeh but we have to try to keep them somehow and improve whats needed elsewhere.  Selling our best has always knocked us backwards and its time to try and keep the best or else whats the point?  We constantly hope that the promise lies within our youth and now, for the first time , it does.  I know we have to balance the books but there are people paid to do just that. Selling the crown jewels is the easy option and we must find another way. Players must be taught that progress with us is better than benching in the Prem. I know what you will say though. Money talks.......and until there is a level playing field, that will always be a problem.  I think I am just totally frustrated by the system.

  9. Selling our best assets might help balance the books but talk of buying better to improve the squad is rubbish. The money for Webster, Reid, Flint, Brownhill etc hasn't exactly propelled us towards promotion has it?  Time to build around our assets rather than discard them. Leave the playing side to NP and let the financial experts in our club balance the books.

In a perfect world we’d move on the likes of palmer, wells and baker. Probably looking at about 1-2 million for all 3 but considerable amount of wages freed up. Be amazing if we can keep all 3 of our young talents but I think we’ll almost certainly lose one, my money would be on HNM at the moment. I expect Bentley will be sold as well, So if we could shift the dead wood, get a nice few quid for HNM/Bentley and the likes of Kelly, Webster and Brownhill are sold, it might just ease our money woes. The only problem is if we want to progress next season we need about 5/6 players in and they need to be ready to hit the ground running. Can’t really afford to bring in any more Tanners and Atkinsons.

I don't think we should raise our expectations too high next season. Yes we need to push on ,  be more consistent and look to progress, but I think a slow burn is more likely.  Top ten finish next season then go for it the following year. That's my thinking. We are far from ready to go for it next season.

The difficulty at AG for chants and songs is entirely down to location of those who like to chant. The ‘singing section’ is tucked away in the corner of the SS with poor acoustics whilst the away get the Atyeo with far better acoustics with the roof reflecting the sound out into the stadium. That exactly why just a few away fans can create so much sound.

In an ideal world the home fans would better placed in the Atyeo but A&S police want away fans there for easier access out to Ashton Rd post match.

For those reasons nothing will happen regardless of what City song is sung

    Is that official Robbo?
