They get next to no national television coverage. Which, given they are the nations favorite second team, must be quite distressing for fans the world over.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if lack of facilities and crap floodlights play a part in Sky deciding there are better places to spend their money.

But what about the new tarmac?

  2. Possibly one of the greatest ever threads on OTIB. I have read it, but not yet contributed. Why now? Well I don't know,  but that doesn't matter.

I have been really down for several months for numerous reasons. Sometimes coming to OTIB helps... sometimes it doesn't. But this thread reminds me that there are some really wonderful people in the world. I have had ups and downs and left and rights over the last 6 months. I have seen myself get very close to ending up in some extremely dark places, and at points questioning life. What is life? How valuable is life? Is life worth living? It was scary, very scary.

The most important thing I have done in my life is reach out to family, and friends, and to tell them how I'm feeling. Even last night I messaged a friend at 9pm to say "Not so good, just needed to get in touch with someone". We were then on the phone for almost an hour, and I felt better afterwards.

I was scared of getting professional help. It made me feel weak. A failure. Someone who couldn't live a life. All this even though I have had counselling before. You feel embarrassed (Even though you don't need to tell anyone you still do).

I did it. I picked up the phone in and I made that call. I want help. I need help. Am I better? No not yet, it can be a long road, but I am beginning to see things in a different light. I am now at a stage where I can fight those dark thoughts rather than absorb them and end up falling in to a bigger, deeper, darker hole.

Hesitant about reaching out to others? Unsure if you should get professional help? Do you feel sad or embarrassed that you have got to this place? Don't be. It's human nature to help other humans. Someone will be there for you....

    Always.

Feel like we’re being sucked into Sales kick and run game too much

True. Sale were also really difficult to deal with at times. Frustrating to watch but they did well to get the win, with the way they had set themselves up.

    Honestly, not so sure.

It was a section of the track where the chance of an accident was minimal.

Raikkonen had an accident at Silverstone a couple of years ago onto the same type of barrier, but because he hit the barrier at a more shallow angle he glanced off and all was good.

Here Grosjean has gone into the barrier at a near on 90⁰ angle and the fact the barrier deformed is actually good, because it means less impact going into the car and driver.

Had he hit a solid wall all of the impact would have been on Grosjean's body, his chance of survival would have been even less.

The main issue really is the way the barrier split, but that is arguably the result of the HALO doing such a good job. It is there as a safety device and by it's nature is meant to withstand high impacts.

If the accident was repeated (hopefully it won't be) with the concrete blocks that have replaced that section I wouldn't expect the results to be any nicer.

    Excellent post.

The Armco is generally used where there is less chance of an impact. Unfortunately on this occasion it was a very high force impact.

As mentioned in commentary, if he had hit it at the right angle the car would have taken a slide down the barrier and eventually come to a stop (Although there wasn't a lot of it because of where the access road was located). Here, the car has hit the barrier at such an angle and at such a force that the barrier has opened up, but the car has split at the point the roll bar (I think) hits the barrier. ( @phantom this should answer you question)

The force of the impact was recorded at 53G. Amazingly Grosjean didn't lose consciousness, which I find incredible. It was around 25 seconds between impact and Grosjean jumping over the barrier. The miracle here is that he went through that barrier, thankfully saved by the halo, but also the fact he was in that fire for so long.

I've watch F1 for 30 years a have only seen this sort of thing a couple of times before. A stark reminder of the fact I watch a sport incredibly dangerous for entertainment. Thankfully safety has come a very long way.

EFL clubs allowed up to 1,000 fans for pilot event matches this weekend

    Last Updated: 15/09/20 2:30pm

The request from EFL clubs for pilot events was granted by the UK government on TuesdayThe request from EFL clubs for pilot events was granted by the UK government on Tuesday

EFL clubs have been given the go-ahead to run pilot events this weekend with up to 1,000 spectators allowed to attend matches.

An EFL spokesman said: "The EFL remains in discussions with the government about the pilot programme which may include a limited number of further pilot matches during September with capacity limited to 1,000.

"The league is clear in its view that social distancing can be applied safely in football stadia and that having crowds at matches is an absolutely essential part of helping to protect club finances, which remain under extreme pressure. Therefore, the successful delivery of further pilots w be an important step towards getting larger number of fans into grounds safely.

No thank you. I would love to watch live football again soon, I really would, however now is not the time, in my opinion. Covid cases in the UK are on the rise. France started to let fans in to watch games since July 11th, and look how that situation has unfolded. (Not saying the increase in cases there is purely down to allowing fans in to sporting events though) We are basically allowing fans to attend games at the same time France did in terms of the number of active Covid cases, and this could well result in a sudden surge in cases and a compete backfire.

Just my own opinion though, of course.

Smoke screen to appease supporters and portray a positive stance to interested parties considering buying the club. As in, we're moving forward anyway and don't need to sell.

Possible, but I just wonder if the owners of the current site have said "Sorry but you can't train here anymore" and they have been left with no option...

To others thanks for the interest in the fund there is a link here. https://bristolcareworkersnetwork.org/2020/03/17/bristol-health-and-care-workers-solidarity-fund/

I wasn't going to post it as I didn't want to spam, but if people do want to share the word then that would be cool. We've raised more than the total donated there and are quite keen to give away what we can so if you know struggling carers then let them know.

Absoloutley no problem posting that link here mate, I'm sure many people will appreciate you putting it on their radar.

Have they really gone a full day without doing something stupid?

Surely there must be some pictures of hordes of blue and white quartered idiots roaming the streets of Whorefield ignoring the lockdown or something.

    Here you go ?

    TWO  -  N i l   ffs... !     what went wrong?

Guess the Mackems were blinded by the bright lights of The Mem and stunned to find themselves in such salubrious surroundings.... I dare say the facilities took their breath away.  Cant think of any other conclusion to be honest...

Damn the Gas and their perfect little lives....  ;)

It was obviously because of the amazing bestist in da world supporters. Don't forget refs gets sent there to see how they will cope with their massive home support and intimidating atmosphere.

Reading about that the Olympics may be postponed or canceled all together if there is no improvement by May.

Do we think this might have a similar impact on the Euro's? Italian football has already been effected by it - could it lead to a delay/cancellation? Or a reduction in the number of countries hosting?

I certainly think discussions will be taking place as early as next month. I would imagine there could potentially be a reduction in the number of host cities as you say, if that's feasible.

I also wonder how long it will take the British Media to say "It could be the first 'home' tournament since '96 because we already have the infrastructure in place, best stadiums, etc etc..."

    Donna Ewing, wow!

Anyway, went past the rugby ground today. Just to remind the cuckoo's, it still states : "Bristol Rugby, The Memorial Ground". It's not the Memorial Stadium.

Sorry wait.... this thread has been slightly side tracked.

It still states Bristol Rugby? Sheesh, still hanging on to the fact they stole it then?
