Max Bird Signed (& loaned back to Derby) - CONFIRMED
bexhill reds replied to Finley_Smith10's topic in Football Chat
Club ties down a good player that they don’t need now, but will do next season with an imaginative transfer deal using a bit of leverage to save the end of season bun fight and competing against clubs with bigger budgets, player is in for day 1 of preseason rather than rocking up mid Jul and being the a month behind, yet people still find the need to criticise. I genuinely do think that there has been a visible improvement in what LM is getting out of this team, they now look very comfortable in possession (whereas NP did not think we had the players for possession football), they press cleverly with some of the passing being exceptional, Tanner, Pring, Dickie and to a lesser extent Vyner look so much more comfortable playing in this team, and the football is very pleasing on the eye (mine at least) Up top remains a problem to be solved but that’s been the case pretty much post-Cotts, but I think if LM can get that enigma solved then someone is going to get an absolute hiding. It’s too early to determine if the Lansdowns have finally appointed a good head coach, but I’m liking what I see of late.

I was very sceptical when LM was brought in, but you can clearly see the results of his endeavours, the team are playing much more attractive football and look much more difficult to beat, defensive and goalkeeping aberrations aside. Our issue remains the age old quality up front, be it crossing, finishing or decision making, the problem is the solution to that does not come cheap, solve that and I think we have much to look forward to.

I see him more of a direct replacement for Williams who up to about 6 weeks ago was seen as not worth a contract renewal at the end of the season. Good engine, a very good presser who can link up play (him and Sykes seem to be able to read each other). he can play the more forward role, but I think that’s because he can and there are fewer current options. I’d like to Sykes in that role when his fit.

Yawn, someone that disagrees with you is a happy clapper. Most would have taken a point tonight. If I’d were to be immediately replacing one player in our starting line up tonight I’d not be looking at O’Leary.

Licence fee costs perhaps or the difficulty of synching the audio. I personally don’t think this is something worth moaning about, it gives me an opportunity to see City that I didn't have 10 years ago, other than the odd live game and 30 seconds of Sky TV highlights. Sure other clubs might spend more on it, but I suspect the revenue stream from subscriptions alone not going to be high enough to warrant huge amounts of production costs. There are other sticks to beat the club with. -

I just use it to watch the football from that perspective it does a good job for what you pay as an overseas subscriber. I get it’s fashionable to have a dig at anything the club does on a official level, but it’s essentially an internal TV feed and not a public tv channel. -

Disagree, probably needs a spreadsheet guru with some stats, especially when you consider games where defensively we’ve been inept -

By definition you could equally be having a constant dig at Conway for not taking his chances, after all that’s his job… When a keeper ***** up invariably you are in trouble, but we defended that poorly, Simms is an absolute donkey and he should never been allowed to get anywhere near that deflection. -

Great little player, good feet. The sort of player we could do with in our current 2 behind the striker formation -

Nah, more bad and average days than good, rarely makes the right decision when it matters. He’s benefitted from some very good collective performances of late that have masked his own performances, get a game like tonight where everyone is slight below par and you can see he’s not at this level. Hopefully Manning can improve him, but I think L1 might just be his level -

I don’t think there’s an agenda, he is just invariably distinctly average. -

I doubt you’d have said that 6 weeks or so ago when Williams had no form. He’s never really played in that deeper role for us. I quite fancy him back there, great engine, likes a tackle. 3 of our midfield are ooo at the end of the season, so a sensible signing who will only get better as he gets older -

Not for the position he’s being played in, a deeper midfielder perhaps more in Joe Williams role. He loses his place in that advanced position when Sykes is fit. -

You could have cut and paste this comment from any of the past 3 seasons since W-S-M were split up -

I’d be tempted to swap Bell and Knight around, not sure that Knight is wholly effective where he is now, and I fancy Bells close touch in and around the box.
