From memory CLT is in simple terms is amount of information an active memory can process in a given time. It’s particularly helpful  in avoiding overloading someone who might struggle to retain info.

iirc there were/are three different types of CLT but I can’t recall what they are………

In my former profession I often adopted a CBT approach which was extremely helpful particularly with those who had a history of anxiety and depression. Essentially I/we were trying to encourage them that by using CBT on themselves they could cope far more comfortably in their day to day lives.

    Intrinsic, extrinsic, and germane.

We do it at work too, and I work in tech. It's everywhere these days - It's important to understand and people who dismiss it and similar are foolish imo. City will get left behind if they don't pay attention to it.

The concepts have been known for decades, centuries even. They're just put into more understandable language now so the players will be able to understand and help themselves as much as anything.

Agreed. It’s unbelievable how in a twist some fans can get their knickers into over a game. I think some may need to get out more

As the OP I wasn’t making a point, I was asking do we deserve to be higher or does our position fairly reflect other metrics.

It may well do - but being "well run" should mean you outperform your expectation, and poorly run means you underperform. That goes for both on and off the pitch.

If we're exactly where we'd expect, we're just average. We do some things well, and some poorly, which sounds like a fair reflection on our club at the moment I think.

I reckon our mid table finishes are broadly reflective of where we should be as a club. perhaps a little poor if you look at the total investment over the last 10 years or so, but I also think that can be seen as somewhat of a failure as we should be trying to outperform expectations, not be happy with matching them.

    I don't think that's being entitled, personally.

Youth pathway is crumbling to the ground despite academy graduates playing 30% of all available minutes this season, which is happens to be the joint highest in the Championship

Isn't that going to primarily be due to O'Leary, Pring, and Vyner who are 27, 26, and 26 respectively playing almost every game?

I think the meaning behind "the pathway" is a route into the first team, rather than just having lots of academy players play for the team in their mid/late twenties, right?

Personally I'd look more at debut/breakthrough seasons.

It depends a little on how you define "one of the best". For me I'd say it means he's in the top 6 in enough stats/areas to be in that conversation. I'd say as well that I say he looks like one of the best, because the defence in front of him improves him. I don't necessarily mean that he is, objectively, one of the top keepers in this division.

    Anyway, Max is:

    3rd best save% this season.

4th for overall number of saves.

    6th best for goals conceded.

    7th best for stopping crosses.

Top 10 for most stats relevant to being a sweeper. Top 6 for one or two.

He's not up there for every stat, and not all stats indicate whether a goalkeeper in isolation is good/bad, but yeh he's putting in top 6/top 10 numbers in multiple categories.

    https://fbref.com/en/comps/10/keepersadv/Championship-Stats

Caveat - all the "xg is nonsense" / "stats can prove anything" luddites can just skip ahead ;)

You're right of course - however, as I know you like your stats and xG, take a look at the expected column.

The post shot xG for Max shows he faces the 2nd lowest post shot xG (per shot on target) in the division. His xG against is actually slightly lower than you'd expect. Per 90m, he's mid table - 14th. In fact his (deep breath) Post shot xG minus goals allowed per 90m is 0.0. He's doing exactly as well as you'd expect.

He's good in other areas and for the record I think he's doing a great job this year and wouldn't be looking to upgrade, but he's doing as expected this year imo for a Championship keeper, and nothing remarkable (when it comes to shot stopping). Obviously there's more to being a keeper than that, and he does well there too.

If I've misread/understood anything please do correct me - as it gets kinda complex quite quickly!

Problem is that we have a new plan A every game.

We don't impose our game on opponents. We constantly change depending on the opposition and that just doesn't work.

Sorry I'm genuinely confused here - your original complaint was that we were doing the same thing wasn't it - "stumble across something that worked and kept on until it no longer worked"

But now you're complaining we have a new plan A every game.

    Which is it?

It just reminds me of what LJ used to do.

Would stumble across something that worked and kept on until it no longer worked.

As opposed to finding something that works and then... not doing it again, presumably in favour of something that doesn't work?

Isn't that what we've been accusing Manning of?

So finding a plan that works and trying it more than once is a negative. Bizarre.

So it’s all just politics. I do believe the way to go for city is produce their own talent and buy the best lower league players. City have always been on average a second tier mid table team. Yes with the right head coach/manager and luck they can get promotion to the prem. liam manning is in that position now and he needs to be judged after he has brought in the type of players he wants. I get as frustrated as all city fans when they lose, especially to perceived lower teams. I would like to hear what people on here do think is the way to getting to the prem and also staying there. I saw us in the top division and then watched us relegated in 3 successive seasons. Then a long period of lower league football.

Why though? Are we good at buying the best lower league players?

Genuine question, and maybe there's an obvious answer I'm missing... But who was the last lower league player we bought, developed, and who then turned out to be premiership quality?

Brownhill? Ayling? That's not a great hit rate if so, so why should that be the way for us to go?

Honestly, I don't think the slowly slowly, gradually develop a manager and team approach is the way to go. I think you have to build a bit of a head of steam, then just decide to go for it one year, splash some serious money, and have a proper crack at it.

I think the idea of signing a few kids, spending £1m-4m each summer and hoping you get there actually means you end up exactly where we are EVERY YEAR - mid table.

They went or could go so far beyond us in terms of points gained. Some insane numbers from the top 3 even top 4.

Oh absolutely mate. They're better than we were on I expect almost every measurable metric and deserving of their place. The top few are away from the pack.

It's just there can't be that many newly promoted teams top of the championship at this point, and it's bizarre to think we were one of them in the not too distant past.

Some day for them. Top with 7 to play.

Amazing to think we were basically in that same positions 16 years ago (well, last time we were top was after game 38 I think but whatever).

I wouldn't actually care if they go up - the Ashton thing, yeah annoying, whatever. Good luck to them, hard to say they don't deserve it after their wobble and resurgence this season. Oh, and to see Leicester potentially fail would be worth it for me.

  14. Never thought he'd be our long term number 1, happy to admit I was wrong as things stand. Keeper was one of the first positions imo to strengthen for some years now but Max is doing a great job at the moment. He's surpassed my expectations and good luck to him.

I'd like to see some backup to challenge him, but he's absolutely deserving of his place at the moment. Good for him (and us).

Shame Twine and James have missed so many games this side of January, think they are instrumental to how LM actually wants to play. Would’ve given a much better scope on things going into the summer now.

Needs to show he can learn from his previous mistakes now, has enough games left to turn opinions, it’s up to him to make that happen!

Do you think James will get offered a contract extension then? And Twine obviously isn't ours.

If they're instrumental to how he wants to play he has a funny way of showing it!

OH!  For Godsake!, I never thought i would hear someone who i have respected for a considerable time, come up with the ultimate cop-out   of  "He is out of his depth"?  Really Davefevs, you are now resorting to cliche's?  My opinion of you has now plummeted to a level that i never thought possible?  Whatever happened to the cool logical analyst, who's opinion I valued?   Manning, just like Semenyo will come good, given time.....and I truly believe that.

Maybe you just liked it because you usually agreed with it before?

I think some probably underestimate just how much he (and friends) are involved in the day-to-day running of the club. And have been for 10+ years.

He's certainly not doing it against his own will.

At the same time I'm sure he doesn't want to be front and centre as he pretty much is now (along with Tinnion).

And this has long been the dilemma of the Lansdowns. How to retain absolute control without it appearing so...hence the constant chopping and changing in strategy and personnel.

They want someone like Nige with his experience and guile, but also someone malleable they can control like Manning.

And the circus continues to circle... round and round we go.

    Yep good points.

I think I'm one of the people you talk about, and it comes from just self-inserting... I know that although I love city, I wouldn't have the first clue how to run a football club so I'd surround myself with people who did, let them get on with it, and then hopefully bask in the success if I ever got the opportunity. So when I see someone else in that position also with zero knowledge, I assume they'd come to the same conclusion rather than just piss around and make a pigs ear of it.

I guess when you're most likely brought up to believe that your shit doesn't stink though, maybe you have other ideas.
