Peterborough boss Gary Johnson is understood to want a return to Bristol City in the hotseat, as he is angry at the sale of Aaron McLean and his apparent lack of financial backing by the Boro board. The Bristol City board are running out of patience with Keith Millen, as they feel that the form this season has not been adequate given the amount of money spent on players, despite a recent resurgence in the league.

With the confirmed loan of Jon Woodgate, Bristol City have announced the loan signing of Paul Scholes until his retirement at the end of this season. City have offered him their mid-field head coach role as he seeks to gain his UEFA coaching badges to start his management career. Out of respect SAF has committed to pay Scholes wages until end of season.

This of course, added to David Beckhams 11 week loan leaves Bristol City in a strong position to make a charge for the play-offs.

Bristol City will confirm the signing of Neil Danns at the end of the month after Millen was impressed with his display in the fixture between the Robins and Palace.

Millen has also tried to tempt Michael Owen away from Old Trafford after Steve Coppell's failed attempt in the summer.

City are now only looking for cover at left back as Jamie McAllister's recent improvement in form has convinced Millen that he is still up to the job.

Luke Wilkshire is also being lined up in an ambitious move by Millen to get more options in midfield. Wilkshire left City in 2006 but is still held in high regard by many Robins fans who feel he showed glimpses of the qualities that the team now need.

Beckham wont be coming to City, he wasn't happy when Millen told him he would only be signed as cover for the wing wizard Albert Adomah

have we taken over football rumours

07 Jan 2011 14:59:24

After falling out of favour at Barcelona after not quite hitting the heights he did last season, Lionel Messi is top of an impressive short list at Bristol City. A member on OTIB commented "Not quite what we are looking for really, but meh, you know us lot at OTIB, constantly need something to moan about. More proof that Millen isn't up for the job, at end of day."

It is thought that Ronaldiniho is monitoring the progress of the proposed move in hope to link up with the past it little Argentine again. It is rumoured that the Brazillian has asked dos Santos at Tottenham Hotspur to ask Rose and Caulker what the nightlife in Bristol is like. Shame. Would've been a good signing until Rose told him he got urinated on in Thekla night club. A further shame that it was a drunk Gary Johnson who is said to be finding it hard to let go of his connections in Bristol.

David Beckham turned down a move to Bristol City in favour of Tottenham Hotspur after finding out that it isn't actually a small city outside Amsterdam.

Lee Johnson is said to be leaving the Gate after it emerged that Bradley Wright-Phillips could be joining. It has been said that he is unhappy that a further midge could threaten his job in the changing room. . . .

Bristol City goalkeeper David James has put in a transfer request as he is unsettled at the club since the departure of Steve Coppel in August.

The giant goalkeeper was devastated after the Portsmouth debacle and then shortly after had to go through the World Cup failure in South Africa.

Before the departure of Coppel, it was rumoured internally within Bristol City Football Club, that the former Watford, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Man City and West Ham stopper was suicidal after the 3-0 drubbing at home by Millwall and decided to end his life after one of the worst years of his life, and promptly threw himself in front of the 18.16 Great Western train from Swindon, but, luckily, the train went under him.

Strong rumour around Bristol today that City club captain Louis Carey has been approached by Bristol Rovers enquiring if he would be interested in Player/ Manager role at the club.

christ that one is a bit "out there" isn't it? although the part about RB Leipzig struggling to get promoted is true - only one side can get out their league and they are about 12 points back in 4th. i think rost is about 32 though, surely nothing in that? but where else can that stuff come from? odd one

Wenger has said today that Jay Emmanuel-Thomas will go out on loan, would love to see him here

I hope we are at front of the que banging on the door if thats the case.

We could offer arsenal pretty much guaranteed starts in centre mid for the rest of the season. And after how well Caulker has come on thats got to be a plus point

he would be perfect quality solution till end of season.

Some of these don't look impossible at first glance ?

07 Jan 2011 22:04:00

Bristol City are to sign Barnet midfielder Mark Marshall for an undisclosed fee within the next 48 hours.

Marshall (23) has been a target of Keith Millen's for sometime, and the right winger who can also play an attacking role in the centre has bags of pace and skill. He is reported as relishing the opportunity of playing at a higher level and is looking forward to teaming up with former team mate Albert Adomah who was a 125K signing for City in the summer.

Bristol City are also looking to strengthen there defence and strike force in the window. City are keen to add Luke Chambers (Nottingham Forest) to their defensive line but the move appears to have met complications as City are only willing to offer a 18 month contract. A fee of £400k has been accepted.

City are hoping to bolster their strike force with Manchester City striker Felipe Caicedo. The Ecuador international signed a 4 year deal with Man City for 5m in 2008 but has since found himself out of favour this season. City are understood to have tabled a bid to loan the player until the end of the season with an opportunity to purchase the player at any point of the loan for 3m.

Leaving Bristol City will be John Akinde (Free Transfer to Leyton Orient), Gavin Williams (Free Transfer to Yeovil), David Clarkson (250K to Motherwell), Iavn Sproule (200K to Huddersfield) & Danny Haynes (Undisclosed fee to Brighton). Nicky Hunt is understood to have been offered mutual termination by the club with permission to use the clubs facilities until he can find a new club. We are led to believe Hunt is yet to inform the club of his decision.

Rangers are tracking Bristol City striker David Clarkson as a replacement for Birminham-bound Kenny Miller. The cash strapped Glaswegian giants will hope to pick up the former Motherwell goal getter for a cut price £200000 as City look to reduce the size of their squad before making signings of their own.

Bristol Rovers hope to persuade Steve Coppell out of retirement to fill their managerial vacancy. Coppell "retired" from the game when he walked out after a 2 match stint at the helm of arch rivals Bristol City.

The stress of high expectations led to Coppell's departures from both Bristol and Manchester City.

Rovers are optimistic that dropping down at least one division with only limited expectations but an attractive youth set-up will play to Coppell's strengths.

Expect a press conference by mid-January (and another by mid-February).

SURELY THE BEST YET!
