I feel very humbled :)

Yours was a truely brilliant and enlightened post. :worship2: It's me that's now going to humble a few European Unionist door knockers with your fantastic post that I've now turned into a real good anti EU verbal rant. :laughcont:

Does anyone know the Royal Wedding Matchday final score? How many did Prince William score with Katie last night - or was he too pissed? :cool2:

Yeps, Its a myth also that they cost us money, they bring in revenue and above all CLASS and PRESTIGE, which cannot be bought at any price.

Money is not everything, look at the gulf states, more money than they know what to do with and they're people hate them, cant think why, maybe its the oppression, corruption and complete disregard of their peoples basic human rights?

Our royal family are very much intune with its people, they are respected and loved. A beacon to the world, we are a great nation!

I agree there is much injustice in the world, but its days like today which give you hope in humanity.

This post is a joke.......................isn't it?

Personally, I made sure I'd avoid any TV coverage and I did. Saw not one second of the thing and happy I did so.

As for EU point made by havanatopia, yes it is true Switzerland and Norway are not in the EU and still have trade with it, however they still are obliged under the terms of the treaty to enforce certain EU laws in return. This is a fact- there is no such thing as a free lunch, I can't see why the EU would give us larger concessions than Norway or Switzerland. To say those 2 have free trade with zero obligations is a myth!! Look it up.

Russia is also a European country that's not in the European Union. If Russia ever got messed around by the EU - as we have - I'm sure they'd turn off their Siberian gas and oil supply to the EU. Thus, the Russians get free trade with the EU and zero obligations. Can you really and honestly imagine the Russians complying with all the various dumbass EU regulations ???!!!!

True, but we aren't a major supplier of oil/gas to the EU. Still, Russia have a major investment surplus with the EU (Russia invest 2bn Euros apparently, EU invest in Russia 25bn). Also they (the Russians) seemingly have a trade surplus with the EU of some 50bn euros so it's not as if Russia have nothing at stake in this regard.

Thousands of people die across Africa everyday, innocent people are being murdered in Syria and Libya for standing up against an oppressive regime, Thailand and Cambodia are on the verge of war, Japan is still recovering from a devastating disaster, yesterday over 500 people died in Alabama after it was struck by storms and what do we do? Spend millions on a 'Royal Wedding'.

We will never have a true democracy under them.

LOVE the Royal family, makes you proud to be British, God we are a great nation, I vote we take over the world again!

Yeah...World has changed, one part of the reason we gave up the Empire was because we were stricken financially, major austerity needed etc. Some 60 odd years on, what has changed? Also, the other major powers in tyhe world- i.e. the real superpowers, would soon put paid to us trying to remake the British Empire- China for one have clear interests in Africa- but you keep your Little Englander Empire fantasies while us in the real wortd will get on with things as they actually are.

Kate and her sister are fit, Wills and Harry are top guys, we are in safe hands. Would rather have the Royal family than some politician/president at the helm!

All subjective- though Kate and her sister yeah would tend to agree.

People who want a Republic will be waiting a verrrrrrrrrry long time, in fact it will never happen, too many millions of people would lay down their life to keep the Royal family so all you republicans can SFTU and jog on! :englandsmile4wf:

Love your notion of open debate in a democracy! I believe your location says Far East? Presuming it's not Eastern England, not a massive number of democracies over there last time I looked, seems like a suitable place with such views, best place for you really....

....I've probably just been taken in by an excellent piece of wumming but that's how it goes sometimes!

An even stranger turn of events for my ancestors because one of them was from Pforzheim in what is modern Southern Germany and he was one of the 10,000 troops sent by French King Louis to help the American colonists fight the British. He was present at the British surrender at York Town and his daughter married my ancestor that was an architect from Somerset. That means that my ancestor was a German fighting for the French Royal family against King George of England who was also a German Royal. The USA is a Republic and not a French or German or English led Monarchy - does this say something to you as an American? :w00t:

You mongrel!!!

No we just suck in all the kraut and frog cars because we have no home owned industry left thanks in part to needlessly abandoning the ready made Commonwealth Market because we thought we could compete better with the local markets on our doorstep. To intimate they would put tariffs on our exports and jeopardise their dominance of our car Market by reciprocal action is, with respect, farcical. In or out of the EU we would have zero tariffs just like a bunch of other countries looking in from the outside ploughing their revenues back into their local economies instead of paying billions to the Brussels cess pit of nonsense.

The most visited countries in the World (by tourists) are France and the United States, both republics.

Tourists do NOT come here because we have a royal family. They might looking at the royal palaces and some of the pomp and pageantry, but we could still have all that without having to pay lots of money for a family whose main job is waving at people. In fact, if there was no royal family occupying the palaces you might be able to see a lot more of them and, in fact, more tourists might be attracted.

Incidently, only 10% of tourists visiting England are Americans.

so the 600,00 people who came for the royal wedding yesterday did not come because of the royals?

You mongrel!!!

I've never made any secret of having American ancestors/ relatives. :innocent06: The worst thing I did was send an American cousin of mine some piccies of my holiday in Cuba - he was furious that I went there. All is forgiven now but many Americans really don't know of the great beaches and hotels in Cuba - they seem to think it's a sunny version of the old USSR. Do you know if the Americans have lifted any of their trade sanctions against Cuba?

Many Americans are incredibly insular and have very little knowledge of the world outside of America in fact many have very little knowledge of the world outside of their own state.

That is true but the USA is a vast country and visiting every state in the Union properly could take up a lifetime of annual holidays. If I had the money I'd like to visit Hawaii....it was under British control once upon a time.

Unfortunately the answer is no (other than some VERY minor easing of travel restrictions). I am part of a political organization working to lift the US Embargo but we have about as much traction as butter on ice. Too many people here are still stuck in the Cold War.

Unfortunately there's too many vested interests in propagating the socialist/commie bogeyman 'threat.'

I can't see anything changing while the Pentagon/giant defence companies/right wing media tycoons have so much clout.

The US defence budget is astronomical !

When you are delaring war on countries you have now right to , and poking your nose into everyones business you need to defend yourself. They will let people in the bronx kill each other every day of the week in there country no war on them they got more important business to get on with. They are a joke and we are the poodles to there every need.

As Pork says embargo still in place but with some changes. Look up the name Ross-Lehtinen... Influential Cuban American. One interesting anomaly is that Cuba imports around 80% of it's food, by value, from the States..it's risen rapidy since the Clinton era. They are not permitted nor are the American firms allowed to extend credit so they must pay in cash and in advance.

Many would say fortunately... And not just in the States. There are vested interests in Cuba just as much as the US in keeping the status quo. I quite like it as it is as well; suits me fine.

That makes sense of why American credit cards were not accepted in Cuba when I was there 3 years ago. To get this back on topic - what if William and Katie took their Honeymoon in Cuba? The country would be flooded with tourists with everyone wanting to go there because it really is a beautiful and well administered island.

Absolutely right on the credit card although you can send cash ahead via that great US brand, Western Union! There are quite a few anomalies when it comes to the embargo; for example there are no scheduled flights between the two countries yet about 8 flights a day come in from Miami, NYC and LA with that number about to increase. The passengers are Cuban Americans, Journalists or those loosely held as coming on humanitarian grounds.

Problem with Cuba is not enough rooms for the US market. 45k now, they need double that and they know it, so the slow approach is best for many reasons. Not sure Cuba is up to it for high end hospitality just yet though although the are improving albeit very slowly. Don't be fooled by the 5 star tags.

At least Prince William and Katie had the sense not to invite European Unionists Gordon Brown and Tony Blair to their wedding. Brown and Blair are known to lick EU backside - in their 13 years in office together they've done more to sell the United Kingdom down the river to the criminal led European Union than anyone else.

Final Score: William and Katie 2 Gordon and Tony NIL - game set and match to William and Katie. :winner_third_h4h: Errr that's tennis, I mean 2-0 to William and Katie.
