Mayor Election

I've already voted (postal vote) for Marvin, did not use my 2nd choice vote though would never vote tory, have voted liberal in the past but will not in future due to current coalition, and none of the others really appealed. So I voted for the Labour candidate, my usual party pre Blair invading Iraq, just happens that I liked the cut of his jib as well!

Oh dear looks like a Labour landslide going by this thread.

Don't think so. Looks like Marvin and George are head to head. Nobody else anywhere near in the polls.

I know old Red Trousers opposed the JS planning application for AG, but I still think that is far outweighed by what he has done for South Bristol with the Tobacco Factory driving re-generation of the area.

George will get my vote tomorrow + Sue Mountstevens for Police Comissioner.

My second vote for Mayor will go to Stoney Garnett - he of the Red Hat who is well well known to City fans who sit in Block A and B in the Dolman.

"Attack, Attack" - If you sit near there you know that's what he always shouts.

Yeah Yeeeha let's all vote Rees, then we can spend spend and spend some more till it all runs out then we can simply whack another £100 a month on everyone's council tax bill haha then we can all blame it on the government .

I take it you all saw him on the local news the other night ?? The interviewer quite literally tied him in knots - seems like a political lightweight that's 'been to a few meetings' and reels them off when pushed - wow you've been to a few meetings Marvin, well done.

Everyone to their own, just my humble opinion.

Cue all the labour, socialist worker, Stalin quoters etc etc firing their keyboard ammo ....!!

You're wrong. He's only regenerated what he owns himself on a single road and couldn't care less about the rest of the city at large. Let me know when West Street goes from a dump with even less commerce than North Street had before the last 10 years to a thriving sub-community then I'll consider voting for him. Ask him exactly what he'd have in place of Ashton Gate after he - and he alone - gets his wish of carting everybody involved with the club to sodding Avonmouth and I may consider it.

If everyone has to do a 10-mile commute every other week to an industrial pit while a chav estate springs up out of the hole we left how good will Ferguson look exactly?

No raving leftie me, but Rees is the only one who might represent Bristol on the International stage.

The rest come across like the Parish councillors on the Vicar of Dibley!

Vote for Uncle Joe Stalin to give all the work shy Tory Toffs a bit of a shock. Even a vote for Herr Adolf Hitler himself would probably see the once famous Bristol open top trams back up and running - Hitler's regime was well known for beneficial public works projects like new tram systems and motorways. Do you want a job or don't you?

Because of the magnificent Labour party we are in the mess we are in - someone has to sort out the cut backs and times are gonna be tough , it just so happens this time it's the Tories and Lib Dems - funny with you socialist lot how its always someone else's fault isn't it. We are constantly fed your garbage about Stalin and now it's hitler ffs !!!

It's you that's spouting off and if you didn't want anyone rising to your "Cue all the labour, socialist worker, Stalin quoters etc etc firing their keyboard ammo ....!!" post - then why mention Stalin in the first place ??????!!!!!! To me you seem to be looking for an argument with those puerile comments. As for Tories and Lib-Dems - or whoever is in power - having to make cuts then OK but if they get it wrong then there'll will be millions more out of work and that's what I meant by "do you want a job or don't you?" - that comment was not aimed at you personally if that's what you're getting pissy about and if you're offended by my Hitler comments then I'm sorry for that as it was a bit inappropriate considering the damage that Hitler's Luftwaffe caused to the city of Bristol.

That written, why not take note of what Myol'man wrote: "Rees talks the city up, Stoney talks the City up, so that's my 1 and 2". If I could vote (I live outside Bristol) then I'd copy Myol'man in reverse order Stoney as No. 1 choice then Rees as No. 2 choice. Vote Stoney - you just know it makes sense.

I thought the mess we are in was caused by the financial institutions, primarily the American banks over valuing the housing market, selling below-value subprime mortgage bundles and the market crashing, knocking onto banks and financial houses worldwide.

Shows how much I know!

....indeed, that was how the current financial mess started. I'd just like to add that 'socialism' gave us a National Health Service after World War 2 - the envy of the world and free education for all to secondary school level. It was - mainly - the Labour Party and Trades Unions that brought this about. The landslide Labour Party victory of 1945 most definately brought about the founding of the NHS no doubt about that.

Indeed. By the way is it possible to find out how much us taxpayers coughed up to bail out the banks ?

Between £1 trillion and £1.5 trillion of beleaguered taxpayers' money (yours and ours) was given to the banksters to bail them out.
