Hold on, hold on, hold on.

Let's look at the posts that came before dezgimed's "hypocrite" comment:

First, MRR, essentially just opening the debate, including a throwaway joke about the whole patron thing.

Then myself, with an even worse joke.

Aizoon joking with my joke, before a question and then an answer.

Thus followed mass complaints about everyone being high and mighty.

Seems as though everyone just wants to be high and mighty about people being high and mighty.

The IRA one essentially says "media making too much of this" (save you the hassle of reading it ;) ).

The golliwog one was actually a joke about Cardiff's kit colour (I realise it went off on a tangent - inevitably due to the context).

Understand that it can get boring, but what should people do, not talk about anything?

And yes, we should be making ourselves better people. Does that include calling people hypocrites when no-one's made a judgment one way or another?

I dunno. But we start going down a rather bizarre road when people start judging others about judging, and getting angry that people are angry, and then arguing about the fact that no one should be arguing so everyone should chill out but not me 'cos I'm telling people to chill out, very seriously, 'cos they take things too seriously, and we should never take things seriously, especially other people taking things seriously, I'm being serious now, it's just life, life happens, and life is sad, but fun, and in life we get angry, but we can't get angry, 'cos it's life, and life happens, so don't ever get angry, or serious, unless you're angry and serious about people getting angry and serious about life.

What about Windy Miller and his homemade Cider, ******* bang out of order.

Did you see this on the 1970's show that was televised last night EMB?

I thought of this thread whilst watching it.

The programme showed just how far we have changed, especially on topics mentioned in this post.

I couldn't believe my eye's and ears...Wendy Craig in Butterflies actually shouting she wanted to be raped, as if it was a good thing....and other scenes where rape was trivialised and made as if 'normal'.

Watching the programme showed thoughts on women be assaulted, was normal...no wonder all these 'celebs' from the time, are being banged up now...they thought that was normal behaviour it seems.

I watched it for a trip down memory lane.

No doubt that by today's standards that time was sexist, homophobic and racist but at the time very few people cared or saw anything untoward. It was simply accepted.

The only critic I can recal was Mary Whitehouse whose main beef was that there was too much sex on TV.

I saw another documentary about maimed and disabled soldiers returning after WW1 with serious injuries. Women screamed or fainted in the streets when they saw a disfigured man. Different times.........

The clue was in my declaring my resignation as Wigan "pointless patron". The Patron thing exemplifying all that is hypocritical about football and the celebrity supporter who will turn on their own club in righteous indignation provided they get enough publicity and pander to the mood in the media.

Then there's the other equally hypocritical righteous indignation about being overly PC, the outrage about the outraged.

The OP was in response to Executed Wolf's protest resignation" Goodbye from me" regarding sanitation and to some of the increasingly bizarre comments on the Ched Evans thread where the mood was morphing from discussion to mob rule.

I love football and I believe I support one of the best run and least embarrassing clubs in the UK. As for the way football is now run- it's all gone bonkers and lurches from one embarrassment to the next, whilst being self regulated by officials quite happy to take a bung.

Hypocrisy is rife in both the PC and anti PC camps. It's ok to say 'I hate the Welsh' but don't you dare say the same about blacks. It's ok to say "he got what he deserved" but don't you dare say.....

So the media have derided and hounded a football club for allowing a convicted rapist to train ( not play or sign) yet good old Malkey who has been caught texting racist, sexist, homophobic comments, gets a plum job and there's not a sniff of a patron resignation anywhere. And Dave Whelan says:

"He has earned the right to another chance to do what he does best, managing a football club." Really, Dave- how so?

It's a funny old football world.

I agree...from what we saw and was mentioned...it was just accepted...it seemed 'normal'.

This will sound quiet controversial... but some of the figures being tried for 'assault' now, for stuff that went on in the 70's, that was deemed normal...by people of a mindset of this generation, seems quiet odd now.

I'm not saying it was right...but totally different time zones it seems.

What was 'normal' for one generation is different to the next.

These generations are seemingly getting more closer together if that makes sense.

A lot has changed in the last 100 years...more so than any other century.

It will be interesting to see whether people will be tried for things that's deemed normal now, by the generations 50 years from now.

Some of it did beggar belief, but FFS to see some of the unfunny hand ringing Liberal so called comedians, telling us what is and isn't acceptable made me turn over and watch Judge Judy.

The comedian with the beard, was sat behind me at a recent City game, someone said he's a fan.

They weren't born in the 70's so have no idea.

To be fair to Dave Whelan, he's had to give about 50 different interviews today. He was always going to mess up at some point.

Not once has he used his old saviour story of breaking his leg in the cup final although I think it may not be long now.

Really done himself no favours at all and is probably bewildered by the shit storm he has engendered. Does he not have a PR person? Employ one Dave.

Now folks here where it gets very complicated:

Dave Whelan, Malkey's new boss has now been accused of being racist by our old friend Vincent Tan, quote from BBC:-

"Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has accused Wigan counterpart Dave Whelan of being "a racist".

The Malaysian businessman criticised Whelan for using derogatory comments about Jews and the word "chink" in an interview with a national newspaper."

He goes on to say a racist has employed a racist- you know- the sexist homophobic one.

Meanwhile, David Gold ( owner of West Ham & Ann Summers sex shops) has joined in with his outrage about Whelan's anti semitic comments.

Well said David Gold but hang on a minute.... aren't you the same David Gold - the former owner of several pornographic magazines which are by their nature sexist and exploiting woman??? So it's not ok to be racist but it is ok to be a sexist pornographer?

YOU COULD NOT MAKE THIS UP

Football: where hypocrisy comes as standard.

Ok Malky Mackay sounds like a horrible man but does anyone else think common sense  has prevailed here or am I in a minority? Can we really start charging people over private texts between two people, friends even?

Yes because all of the above posters have never told/listened to a sexist, racist, homophobic joke. Hypocrites the lot of you.

Without seeing the content of the texts I'm inclined to agree.

A friend of mine sends me jokes with all manner of distaste.  And he's a selfless, positive individual who endlessly fights for social justice and would welcome anyone of any persuasion, creed, colour into his home.

He's no racist or bigot.

He's also fat and sends jokes about fat people - what does that make him?  Help?!

I've also sent lots of jokes about Irish people.  Am I a racist?  I've heard some great jokes about wheelchairs too.  My son (who owns 4 chairs) thinks they are funny.

If I confess to a murder in a private text conversation between me and a friend does that mean I can't be charged based on this?

You won't be charged with confession by text, you'll be charged with murder.  Subtly different.

This is a difficult subject from my point of view.  I detest racism and homophobia but at the same time think that peoples private conversations should stay private.

I guess then I think that Mackay is undeserving of any sympathy from me, his conversations shouldn't have been revealed but once they were his employers had a duty to discipline him.  I don't think he should be charged by the police for the things he said (they were "jokes" not actual abuse) though.

IMO opinion, it's a private conversation between 2 individuals. On that basis people should not be able to be disciplined/prosecuted for their own opinions or those that they wish to relay by form of a joke. (Obviously that doesn't include a written confession to murder!)

However, if these messages are seen by others and become more public, then you can't blame people for forming an opinion of you based on this.

You shouldn't be sacked for content of a private message, unless it's about a specific other person and becomes liable. However, if the content becomes public and people then regard you as a racist/homophobe etc then they may well not give you a job or promotion in the future based on this opinion of you.

What happened to free spearhead anyway..?!

depends on the joke if it's nasty and malisicous then obviously not but done correctly comedy is a great way of breaking down barriers! People can say racist/homophobic/sexist things without actually being any of those things.
