Would You Post If You Couldn't Hide Behind A Pseudonym?

In my job I need to remain balanced and, to a degree, impartial at all times. I'd rather post on a Bristol City fans' forum freely and without needing to abide by those two principles.

"Balanced and impartial" and you're a journalist?

I take it that you don't work for the Bristol Post.

This thread is interesting.

Its a year old but I would say definitely not.

These days so much can be gleaned from looking people up...my social media is very locked down for that reason...all sorts of pitfalls can arise from loose talk on social media. Cyberstalking, doxxing.

Anyway if it's really needed a fake pseudonym wouldn't protect someone in criminal or defamatory matters, fairly sure mods and admin have IP logs anyway.

The point about how we would react in a pub discussion and online is an interesting one.

But in a pub, you can answer straight away,  and you're only talking to at most a handful of people.  On here, you can snowed under pretty quickly,  with both positive and negative comments, from dozens of people.

They make it more of a laugh IMO,  some people adopt a persona and post in that, often in a humorous way (Malone was the finest example, but there are many others).

In my circles most of my mates have nicknames and you rarely hear their real names. My user name was my real life nickname from when I started posting.

I understand the objection to people who are nasty or snide and hiding behind a user name, but just ban the little scrotes.

I try to post on here like I would if I was speaking to someone in person.  I try not to be controversial, I try to be respectful, and try to be reasoned with my arguments.  The big question is whether others think that.  I've not posted on some topics because I feel I'd get myself into something I don't want to get into.

My name is not Harry, but it is a nickname I've had since I was 12.

Lots of people at the ground know me as Harry.

Anything I say on here I would say in person and have done.

I've met Dave Lloyd before on numerous occasions and introduced myself as Harry.

I've argued for hours and hours with posters on here whom I didn't know, whom I later met in person and whom I would now call a good mate (particular reference to the much vaunted NickJ).

I've no issue with forum anonymity, but I have no issue with people knowing who I am. I'll say what I want and will happily back it up in person.

Glenside?

I'd like to see how one particular keyboard warrior on here would speak to people if he was facing them directly. (He knows who he is :D )

As for me, anybody can look me up and say anything to my face. I'll even post my address:

Kim Il Sung
Glass coffin number 1
Palace of the eternal shining light of the dear leader & the socialist revolution
Pyongyang
North Korea
NK1 B75

Not in a million. That's not because I don't stand by what I say/write but because in a personal and professional capacity you never know who you may run in to. If I had to post with that in mind I wouldn't post at all.
