PHILINFRANCE
In addition to Somerset, I can’t believe any other County, their members or their fans/supporters are in favour of a format that deprives them of County cricket in the middle of summer and, of course, the school holidays. I should imagine the only people in favour are those with vested interests - we all know who they are, including the overseas ‘stars’ who come over here for a final payday. I’ve heard that next year is likely to be pretty much the same as this, meaning a vote now would be for 2024. However, you never know what’s coming next with this lot. A win tomorrow and a top 6 place is within our grasp

A win tomorrow and a top 6 place is within our grasp And should we indeed beat Warwickshire, Northants lose (Yorkshire have already done) so, a top six position, fifth even, would seem very possible. Grab it with both hands, pull up the drawbridge, limit the 'top' division to six teams and ensure we retain our First Division place indefinitely. Except, that would be crass and unsporting, not something for which Somerset are renowned - forget Worcestershire . Seriously, though, I have heard that next year there will be eight teams in Division One, so we should (Surely!) be safe this season.
Super
Bat for 30 mins then stick them in?
ralphindevon
Why are we risking recently injured players by putting them into bat? Davey and Gregory both limping at certain points while batting. We're really going to need them and this Warwickshire side aren't exactly the best batting team they've had. ralphindevon
Of course if the 3 divisions does come into play in 2024 teams will have to be in the top flight next year to have any chance of getting in the top 6 in 2024. Vital Somerset bowl and feild well this afternoon. I'd give Goldsworthy a few overs alongside Khan
Super
I don't think they will go for it, RR is nearly 5 an over now.
bearded_red
Cannot believe they even gave them a sniff with the declaration. A draw would be absolutely fine, a loss is disastrous. It was obvious the pitch had completely died yesterday.

PHILINFRANCE
That will help calm a few nerves - Sibley caught on the boundary for 54. Well over five an over required now.

ralphindevon
I'm trying to enjoy my holiday but keeping on tuning in to the cricket isnt helping. Khan and Davey have been disappointing so far. Goldsworthy worth a go and in Abell we've got one of the best bowlers of breaking a partnership around but he never bowls nowadays. bearded_red
I am in disbelief they’ve got themselves in this position. The draw was a much better result for Somerset than Warwickshire.

It’s less than sixes and they’re scoring off every ball without taking any risks.

I mean he's not really featured in any format for a while now so I guess it was enviable he was either off elsewhere or retiring. Must have been one of the first specialist white ball cricketers in this country, with just 9 first class matches. Amazing T20 figures and was one of our most reliable bowlers for years and saved a few runs in the field too.

I`ve often wondered how financially secure cricketers like him who have had a good, steady career but not really torn up any trees or played international/(much)franchise cricket are when they retire. I guess it`s down to how well he`s planned for it but I doubt he`s rolling in cash.

I agree it’s a mystery how these chaps plan for the future! I know in the past cricketers have given up the game to concentrate on proper careers. I guess that’s where you can praise franchise cricket, it’s given players a chance to earn a decent bit of cash. I see Max has been awarded a testimonial next year and in the old fashioned way I guess it’s money all going to help him out in whatever he does next.
bearded_red
England have made Leach unavailable for the last two games. He bowled 45 overs in the South Africa series and England don’t play a test until December. Mind blowing.

I expect they`re contacting Essex to see if there`s anything they want to complain about too.
Admin phantom Posted September 19, 2022 Admin Report Share Posted September 19, 2022 Signing being announced 0930 Tuesday morning, any suggestions? Guess it's just a contract extension Though it's no secret which ex player wants to return (Even though he'd be playing for England most of the summer)
bearded_red
Sean Dickson from Durham was the rumour going around, could be nonsense though obviously. Personally.. Announce Darren Stevens!
