Alternatively, we could pay him £15k/week to play for us & BS could employ him on a part time, goal making consultancy basis on 46-60 occasions over the season. ;)

I believe that is the old Rugby Union model.

If that was in any other paper I'd be more inclined to believe it!!

Although, I'd be massively surprised if we aren't in talks already. Whether he signs or not we would be asking questions of Tomlin and his advisors

Fingers crossed, this has the potential to put a spring in my step for the entire summer if he signed permanently

You, me and everyone else. Looking at the various mumblings on Twitter, fee offered seems  more around £1.5m mark. I’m sure we’d be willing to offer more. Issue simply: will we pay the wages, and does he really want to join (and not hang around waiting for one of the biggies to bid)? Alan Nixon has said to a City fan: “comes down to cash. You’re trying. Record levels.”  And that we have a better chance than anyone…for now. I’m interpreting the ‘record levels’ thing as the wages issue, not fee. Surely we’ll be offering at least 20k per week. Please god let us make this happen.

I suppose there must be a figure in his mind of what it's worth losing out on in wages to be at a side where he's already established as a key player and adored by the supporters. No idea what that figure is but it's the one advantage we have over other clubs right now.

I hope that this is true the guy was a huge part in surviving, but consider the source - The Post relies on clicks to generate revenue, and this is a move that the fans want.

If we're talking to him one party has changed their position substantially, or the agent has put this story out to force the hand of the usual Championship suspects.

It does appear that wages won't scupper this one, which is both pleasing and a little worrying at the same time. We were 'surprised' last summer, but if we're going for Tomlin, widely quoted as earning £30k/wk at Bournemouth (does anyone believe that is true? Seems very high to me) then all of a sudden we've catapulted ourselves up the league table of payers in the Championship. Other players will ask for similar, as will the lads who got us here in the first place. That isn't sustainable over a long period of time, unless we get to the promised land. It's exciting, but scary all at the same time

I have full confidence in Andy and his fine team. Welcome to the club Lee.

I can imagine AS on his way to Cornwall with that surfboard under his arm already.....

Yes and no. Tomlin will know he won't be on (let's say) 30k here. I'd guess we'll offer him 20,000(ish), possibly up to 23k. Of course it's high and is a big jump from past attitudes at board (and managerial) level. But, we know what Tomlin is about. This wouldn't be a risky move. I wouldn't advocate paying silly wages on a Prem star who's in his 30s and been around the block a few times. Tomlin's still young and has the potential to be a star at this club. I understand the slippery slope argument but at some point we are going to have to pay top players top money. Let's start with a guy who's worth it.

Can't disagree with the last part, FC

Burnley, Blackpool, Swansea etc etc have all shown how to get there without bankrupting yourself along the way, and as you say, it has to start somewhere

I'm on the Wine St Surveillance cam that points at Greggs.  No sign of him yet.

Assuming he is on £30k pw and we offered him £20k pw over 3 years....a signing on fee of £1.5m would cover the difference.  If the fee is £1.5m, thats's £3m in total.  I think that would be a good deal for us.  Whether it us for him, no idea. I've obviously no idea of the £s involved here.

Fed up of reading other players will want the same or more. If we want better players we pay more wages simple as that.

You want the truth? You can't handle the truth.....I forget which film that's from, but it's kinda how things work

We obviously know what he's on, so we're obviously prepared to find some sort of solution

Good point. Remind me again, who pays a player's wages when they're on loan? Parent or loan club? And wouldn't Odemwingie have been on more than Tomlin?

I took the "record levels" to be about fees for other players. Mousset would break our transfer record I believe, when I converted the touted € price into sterling it came out at £3million. I don't recall any more expensive transfers for us.

Depends on the loan agreement. We would have been told what he's on and agreed to pay a percentage I guess.  Bournemouth themselves mastered the art of avoiding high wages during their promotion season by simply giving the players longer contracts/high signing on fees to counter the lower weekly wage. I'd imagine we could do similar.

Saw that. Ignored it. There are so many sites peddling transfer stories. Most probably just guessing.

44 followers, I'd tend to not believe that

Although I just had a notification saying I've got 700 followers. Mainly bookies and porno sites, but if they like reading the crap I churn out then fair play to them
