Haha nice observation.

How about any of the Bristol warplanes?,  Bristol Concordes, Bristol Bare knuckles.

Something with local historic resonance.

The Bristol Balloonists?  Although I'm not sure a hot air balloon strikes a particularly intimidating tone, but at least the alliteration is there.

If you want something with more recent relevance, how about the Bristol Nimbyists?

Bristol Beasts, although the small print might make people read it as something quite different altogether

As a rugby guy first and foremost this is crap, could you imagine if this was attempted by the regular football arm of Bristol Sport?

Most people I know want a red away kit to mirror City's and would be cool to see the inverse of navy and blue hoops away to bring a bit of unity whilst respecting traditions of both clubs.

Destroying the crest is worst of all for me;

Looks like the same badge, so presuming this is real.

I assume that this was done only after extensive consultation with the rugby club's fans?

from their rebrand statement

'We value each and every one of our supporters and we understand that this decision is a significant one. That’s why we engaged internal and external stakeholders in our consultation process, talking to a cross-section of young and older supporters to understand why they feel connected to our rugby club."

Could have been written by the king of bullshit -Mark Ashton - couldn't it?

They weren’t skint, Malcolm Pearce’s money saved them three years before the deal with Mitsubishi which included the name change - even so, why don’t you care when you think money is involved but you care like mad when it isn’t?!

You're wrong. Pearce, bless him a well intentioned fellow, did nothing but keep the wolf from the door.

His intervention bought a shambolically run club a bit more time before the inevitable happened - relegation, a team stripped of its talent, forced to start again with a bunch of youngsters. Unbelievably this scenario was allowed to happen a second time before "the White Knight" "rescued" the club from a third, potentially fatal, implosion in the professional era.

As for the "Bears" - a total uckingf travesty

Just googled Bristol Bears and one of the top webpages is called the Bristol Bear Fiesta:

"Bristol Bear Fiesta (BBF) is a gay event weekend that has been held every summer since 2003 in Bristol's Gay Village in the heart of the Old Market Quarter. We bring you a weekend of relaxation, music and fun primarily aimed at the hairy beary gay community, their admirers and friends."

To be fair, the rugby club's motto is #WeRiseTogether. This is obviously true in more than one way...

And the fans responded -" we no longer feel connected, as other teams are associated with exciting animals like sharks. We'd like to be connected to a Teddy Bear".
