I'm sorry but you are wrong, just wrong.Kingswood is 99% Gas even with comment about the younger generation -  just like Bedminster in 99% City. There's always pockets of both sides in each others historical heartlands but let' use tinted colour glasses glaze over the truth..

Until a year and a half ago I used to live, and work in knowle.Just off the top of my head I can count 50 gasheads that I used to serve at my old job daily that I got to know through banter and the same number of city fans as well.Does that mean knowle is now Gas land? Of course not.

I've always said that if you asked the football fans that live in the Bristol area which football team that they support I think City would have 25/30k fans and Rovers would have 23/28k.That does not mean that these people go to games, but if asked they follow one of the two bristol clubs as there first choice club and that are spread through out our fine city of ours.

Let's use some common sense and logic here.

Lived in Kingswood now for 5 years and I see plenty of City shirts about. 99% is totally made up and way off the mark.

You can't recall 50 gas you used to serve in Knowle because you didn't. Just another random number you've made up. Who can recall 100 customers off the top of their head from 18 months ago? Total BS.

Great work on the percentages, all you have done is show that a higher percentage of our support turn up for games compared to yours.

Agree there are pockets, I for one grew up in Horfield, have a large City supporting family on the "wrong side of the river" so that's a few dozen reds for starters.

Consider myself something of a BCFC missionary these days.

Common sense and logic applied.

"Common sense and logic"!

Our average attendance this season is 19,300, which even taking into account away fans is a suspiciously high percentage of our "25-30k fans" when it is compared to your season's average of 9,100 when you are supposed to have "23-28k fans" isn't it?

By the way, your higher crowds this season are on the back of successive promotions and up to five weeks ago what looked like a season of being play off contenders. Despite this (Xmas apart) you don't get anywhere near to selling out your tiny little ground (despite your club pretending, it isn't really a "stadium", is it?) even though you are now again based in what is supposed to be your heartland, North Bristol.

I can only come to one of two conclusions, if you do have the numbers of supporters that you claim then despite what the local media and your club keep telling us, your actual "support" is pretty shit.

Otherwise and much more likely though is that you simply don't have that number of fans interested in your club and so your current average is, as I said before, only actually about 30% of Bristol's football fans.

You've came on here to try & make your club look better but, like always, have just proved your lot make lies up off the top of your head & are truly deluded. You must be so prowed.

How do you know I never served 50 gasheads? Are you following me?  You don't know where I worked,  nor what area of bussiness this was in so it's pretty random to be scandalous and call me a liar. I've just done a recount and 50 would be a min number.Couldnt put names to all faces, but I know I'm telling the truth.

I also grew up in horfield, just off lockleaze road. Ok you can pick on details and percentages which was just a general statement. Its like saying bedminster or ashton is 99% city even though there are gasheads living there but in small numbers. My original point was pointing out that people on here are saying city now have more fans in places like kingswood etc is quite, silly.

I've lived in Hanham-Kingswood for most of my life and I'd say it was pretty solid Rovers in the 80s, maybe 80-20 in their favour. It is nothing like that anymore, I would guess maybe 60-40 in their favour if not closer to 50-50. I also work in Fishponds and I'd say that is more solid. 16 years ago before they really fell miles behind us I'd say it was 90-10 Rovers, now I would guess maybe 75-25 Gas.

Where do I start....

firstly, no chance you knew at least 50 gas heads in knowle! Not unless you worked in a gas head support group. I spent a lot of time in knowle through relatives living there and being born there and the only one I knew was my uncle, who...umm...*cough*played for them*cough*

secondly, "I think City would have 25/30k fans and Rovers would have 23/28k" where the **** are you getting those figures from?????? You're either an extremely young gas supporting youth who is yet to realise the error of his/her ways that has been fed a wallop of lies or a very old bitter story teller, both of which should be ignored.

Looks like my post regarding Points West has helped revive this thread :clapping:

I have lived in East Bristol all of my life and know plenty of City fans. However, Gasheads crow a hell of a lot on this side of the river because I believe that they feel safe in their numbers.

During the 80's they made my life a living hell. I never really understood why as I had no axe to grind with them. I was just fiercely loyal to my club and wanted to see them get back to the First Division again which was where they were when I first started supporting them.

Rovers fans used to seek me out and were genuinely nasty to me. Really venomous. They delighted in our defeats more than they cared about their own results and that is when I started to dislike them.

Even their nicest fans react like they have been stabbed with a knife when City is mentioned. It pains them to mention anything positive about the other Bristol club. Rovers can win, lose or draw but I am primarily concerned about how City have got on. That is the difference between them and us.

I have seen City shirts in places that you would never have seen them in the 1980's and nobody bats an eyelid these days.

Why they think they are 50/50 is down to their hardcore delusionals dragging their kids to the Mem and plastering it all over Facebook in a last gasp saloon attempt to prove to the "Ted's"  that their tinpot club isn't limping towards eternal basement promotion/relegation, and that even the Championship is just a pipe dream for them.

They crow loudly, especially when they have the odd good away day following (if the weather is nice or they are playing near a good resort for an all weekend piss up).

50/50 support is utter nonsense. A lot of people who say they are Rovers fans last watched Rovers when they played at Eastville or they don't want to admit that they are City fans in case they get vile abuse in front of their kids.

As a born and bred Kingswood boy who still has family there, I can assure you that is absolute b0llocks!

As someone else mentioned, during the 80's when you were over twerton, the wood was a majority gas but there were still huge numbers of city in the Kingswood borough.....now, I would say it's probably 60/40 but a large percentage of that 60 are your come out of the woodwork armchair fans.

pubs like the Shant, the Cobbler have historically been city pubs.......it would have been hard for them to stay open so long with only 1% of the local population likely to use them if we believed your blinkered view

even the Essex that was 100% gas is now 50/50

Spot on South Glos.

As a youngster growing up in Kingswood in the 70's, I rarely saw a City shirt although the football special buses from Kingswood park to Ashton Gate were always packed. We were very much in the miinority in those days by a vast number. Nowadays, all I see is kids in City shirts. An example, my road in Barrs Court, has loads of kids under 14 and every single one is a City fan and I mean every single one of them.

My post about 50/50 was probably a tad optimistic but it's nowhere near the 99% gas our methane snorting chum has mentioned. Go in Hanham Wetherspoons on a Saturday night and there are loads of City fans in there. The Flowerpot and the Lamb are staunch gas pubs but the rest are pretty even TBH.

Aww bless, did calling you out for your totally made up numbers upset you?

At a recount it's now 50 minimum? Hahaha. Can you also recount the alleged 50 City supporters just to double check it wasn't more. Again, BS to suggest you can recall the football allegiances of 100 people minimum from 18 months ago so give up on that one.

We have more supporters, fact.

More City fans now live in areas that were once Gas strongholds, fact.

Would love to hear some more details, percentages and general statements we can pick on, they're hilarious, please keep them coming.

What a load of BS, there are barely a dozen gas in Knowle and I know them all, good lads too but they know their place

Scandalous? That's a bit rich! Careful you don't burst a blood vessel.

I think he's right to question how you knew they were Gash-heads.

Were they wearing scarves or shirts? Did they give you a secret handshake or do they walk around with one trouser leg rolled up?

Did you ask every customer that you served whether they were Gash?  Did you identify them by using your Gash-dar?

On the other hand, if you noticed they all had six fingers on each hand or if your business provides Care in the Community, you may well be telling the truth.

Absolute bollocks . I've lived in kingswood all my life and yes it was heavily tipped in your favour in the eighties and early nineties but not now, nowhere near it . I'd say 60/40 towards the blue few but no more than that . It's unlike your lot to fib about things mind .

I was brought up in Fishponds which was solidly Gas when I was there, and have pretty much lived in St.George/Hanham most of my adult life, and it's fair to say there has always been a fairly even split in those two areas, I have discussed this with a few City mates brought up in the area, and the general concensus as that while Eastville may have been geographically closer, bus routes made it easier to get to Ashton. I do think it's a fair point that if you asked the entire population of Bristol to express a preference, it may come out evenish, but what really matters of course is getting people to games, which- certainly in my lifetime- City have always had the upper hand in,

I think we did miss out on a whole generation while we were in Bath, and that has certainly changed the traditional north/south split for the foreseeable future (especially while you remain in higher divisions). Bizzarely, I think Rovers biggest hope of being 'top dog' in this aspect won't lie in any new stadium (which btw I will believe when I'm sat in it), but more in people turning their backs on the ridiculous pricing and increasingly sterile atmosphere in the top two divisions, and look for a cheaper/more nostalgic way to watch football.

Anyway, anyone walking down my lane in a City shirt runs a very real risk of me shouting out 'Sheeethead' from the safety of my living room :)

I can't disagree with that Miah apart from the highlighted bit. As a nipper, my cousins lived on the Hillfields estate and that was pure gas as I remember it. I also agree about missing out on a whole generation while you were in Bath. You survived, that's the only positive of your time at Trumpton, the rest is pure romanticism as it was, and still is, an absolute hole!

The problem about the 'more nostalgic' idea is that the £££ in the top 2 divisions is obscene nowadays, more so in the Prem, but even our division seems to be awash with cash nowadays. To compete at championship level over more than one season demands higher turnover and 'nostalgia' won't bring that.

The next time I hear the cry of 'sheethead' from a house, I will know where you live but make sure it's quite loud as I'm getting on a bit! ;)

Brilliant, we have more fans because the bus routes.

Me: Dad dad let's go watch Rovers!

Dad; They're a good team and I like them but it's easier to get to the City! Let's start supporting them.

So, to sum up, City are better supported than Rovers because it's easier to get a bus to Ashton? From places like Fishponds?
