Gatland is being talked about as a potential interim through to the World Cup, with Borthwick on the staff for that and then taking over afterwards. I've said before that the time to get rid was 18 months ago, it would have given a new man 2 years to build to the World Cup whereas anyone coming in now would be working against the clock. It was fair enough to let him carry on after the last World Cup but we haven't progressed since then and it's not just become evident in the last few weeks. It is my theory that at this elite level a team of internationals could take to the pitch and make a good fist of it through talent and leadership that is already there, they wouldn't need a coach in the short term, if say Eddie got locked in the toilet. The coach has it in their gift to add to the performance, or as recently with England, detract from it.
