  1. I’ve found each destination to have different favourites. Hertz in one town can be good in another not so much. I must admit I’ve used Goldcar in Spain with no problems but many have had problems. My best advice is pick a company you’ve heard of, take videos or photos of the car when you pick it up and make a note of any problems. But most of all, take out Excess insurance before you go and decline theirs. It’s crazy not to have it all but to buy theirs is stupid money. Use a company like https://www.icarhireinsurance.com/ there are plenty of others just check the ratings and what’s covered. I usually take out an annual one for about £40 but you can take out for just what days you’ll need it if it’s a one off rental. You can even add it as an extra on your house insurance with some companies. With this you should have peace of mind even if they try on a scam. Reading reviews you’d think every car hire company out there is out to get you, in truth you should be fine if you look after the car, get it back in plenty of time with the tank full.
  2. He’s such a massive sports fan, if there’s live sport on locally he’ll be there. With our dreadful weather lately there’s been a lack of local football on but he still managed to find his way here to Teignmouth at the weekend to watch them. I’m sure he’ll be getting more BBC work in the future
  3. This is going to the wire but I wish the commentators would show a bit more enthusiasm. Some unbelievable darts going on. Top of the milk darts!
  4. Those that are planning on using the tube after the game would be advised not to hang around too long. All tube lines are being wound down on Sunday evening leading up to the following weeks strikes. People are advised to make their journey by 5.30. The Elizabeth line to Paddington, by far the quickest way back to Paddington station, should still run as usual on Sunday. Anyone staying over (me) Monday will be chaos as there will be no tube and disrupted Elizabeth line. So packed buses, walk or hire bike.
  5. I remember getting one for Christmas but it would rarely last into the new year. Stupidly we’d play with it in our road, everyone had thorny privet hedges and it wouldn’t be long before it burst. I do remember the hot knife trick but can’t remember how successful it was.
  6. Lost 4-0 and I think it was the first time we’d seen John Shaw’s hair was falling out. Also when someone stood near me threw a pork pie and it hit a policeman on the back of his helmet, I got the blame and was thrown out. Luckily as I was being escorted out pleading my innocence something else kicked off sending the cops elsewhere and I just walked back in. But yes, it would have been a good one to be ejected from, a lot, lot worse in skill and entertainment than the Millwall game.
  7. That’s the first time I’ve seen a breakdown of men/women card holders. I think if asked to guess before I’d seen that I’d have said maybe 13700/2000 so not quite as many women as I thought but not far off.
  8. I love the FA cup and refuse to give up on it. The league can get boring, especially when you’ve been in the same 2 divisions for almost 40 years and most of them years our season is pretty much over by February. When I look back on my time supporting City most highlights are both FA and league cup games, Rovers away, Forest x2 Liverpool x 2 1/2, Man Utd, Man City x3 as well as some interesting fixtures v smaller clubs we haven’t played for ages.
  9. That’s mad if true! I must admit in all the games I’ve been to this season, the Millwall game was the first time I’ve seen someone use an old fashioned card. So I’m not convinced that’s true.
  10. Obviously the best option by a mile would have been to have digital tickets but as we haven’t gone down that route for whatever reason this signed for is the best option. We are pretty much guaranteed to get the tickets to our homes or nearest post office to collect. And although it bumped up postage cost the tickets were only a tenner.
  11. Yes I remember now that the postage was more than usual. The club are getting stick on the other thread but I think with the way the post is now and the time of year it was a good idea. Pretty much guaranteed to get it to you or your nearest post office.
  12. Tickets just arrived. Had to sign for them which I don’t normally do.
  13. Indeed player/manager, an ever present centre half during those heady years for Minehead
  14. I do wonder if there should be a separate thread in the subforum for this. There are certainly season card holders that won’t make games and some of those would be very happy to get £15/20 or whatever for their seat for the day. I notice that a seat near me tomorrow would cost you £41, so £20 would seem a good deal for both parties, maybe the difference between someone going or not. I’ll be there so mine isn’t for sale but I’m sure there are others out there can’t make it.
  15. Not a great record at home to Millwall in recent years, one win out of the last 7, so it feels like another tricky fixture that if we win will really raise the feel good factor. I’ll go for 1-0 City
  16. I think he’s thrown the towel in as far as management goes. With his latest outbursts I can’t see any club alienating their female fan base by hiring him.
  17. Yeah I think X1 is the best bet if you can’t drive
  18. Yes it’s a rail replacement bus between WSM and Temple Meads. Whenever I drive that road to Ashton Gate there seems to be a very frequent bus service, Badgerline X1 I believe. A lot of stops though so I doubt it’s very quick.
  19. I spent one Christmas Day morning at the war remnants museum in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) It had been busy with long queues leading up to Christmas and a local told us to try Christmas Day which we did with no queuing. Not the cheeriest, most festive of activities but interesting all the same. Followed by an incredibly hot curry for Christmas lunch.
  20. There was one point where he had a great chance to score an identical goal to the other night. I did think if it had gone in I doubt he’d have passed it to anyone again. He’s not perfect but you could see he was bothering them big time, I reckon if you asked their fans they’d say he stood out. The more minutes the better the quality hopefully
  21. Heard rumours of a loan to Leeds, who were reportedly interested in the summer. Just rumours but I think he’ll be loaned somewhere and probably in England this time. He’s got to start playing regular football soon, he’s losing way too much of the prime of his life not playing at the moment. Having said that I don’t think his Burnley journey is over by a long way.
