It's England - motivation will not be an issue!

They found love in a hopeless place.

They are definitely more beatable than in previous seasons and not as good a team as when we played them last. Whilst we won't be facing a weak Man City side, it'll be weakened as the Premier League/CL are their priority for this season. When the draw was made I quite fancied us for an upset but with the new boys unavailable (cup tied) and Naismith and Atkinson missing I think it'll be very tough. I'd like to think we could at least give them a scare. Adds an interesting dimension that the tie will be decided on the night. We've been good defensively of late so wouldn't rule out extra time. Here's hoping for a fantastic evening.

I'm usually fine with trainers throwing in the towel to stop their fighters taking a beating. But that was one shot albeit a very good one and he looked ok when he got to his feet. With so little time until the end of the round he should have at least given him that. Really annoying as that was turning into a really great scrap. Rematch please.

Let's cut to the chase here, Rob - where are you currently drinking vodka coke? -
They may have some FFP problems on the way. Wael (Hanni) has bet on Joey and approved an overspend on the wage bill. It's roughly a top 10 wage bill so below that is going to be underachievement. Barton has the hallmarks of a pretty average manager. Pressure is building too. Six defeats in seven games, he needs results fast.

Kinell. This kind of banter really still exists in the 21st century, not only at amatuer level, but amongst the pros including the best player to have ever picked up a club? Sorry fellas, but absolute cringe. No wonder golf has the reputation of being a middle class, socially exclusive sport. Completely unfunny and certaintly open to criticism of being just outright sexist, which is puzzling considering so many positive strides have been made in promoting all forms of female sport including golf. "Heres your tampon". I'd have been proud of that on the par 3 when I was 14 but Tiger Woods is making the same joke in the 21st century aged 47. Kinell ??

After Boxing Day I was honestly willing to bin off Nige and quit supporting City. 8 weeks later I want to marry the bloke and have reaffirmed to my wife that I will be missing on every single Saturday between now and the end of the season.

So for the first time in my life I caught a ball at a game of sport tonight. Bears missed conversion in the 80th minute. Remember me when I'm famous.

Sunderland away match thread

Thoughts with those City fans that were supposed to be on this afternoon's flight to Newcastle, which was cancelled due to bad weather. Many now facing a bit of a nightmare train journey north. -
I suspect the in-stadium checks were a dress rehearsal for the Man City game.
-
Yeah, trains are rubbish. We hired a car. It's quite a spectacular drive through the green mountains to the south of Donostia, and then onto the dusty, dry plains around Pamplona. Went to a beautiful little town called Olite which has a stunning Navarre fairytale castle.

Still some tickets left in hospitality for all you high rollers out there. Start at £300...

Suspect the family areas will have a fair few slightly older than normal, bald, children for this match.

A shame for the lad as he was clearly a talented player, but having knees made of chocolate was never going to be conducive to having a long career in football.
