  1. Always quite sad seeing some of the all-time greats coming towards the end of their careers and not looking as good as they used to. Tonight's example: Sergio Busquets.
  2. Indeed. Be very interesting to see if the likes of India and Australia try and follow. They may have to based on our performances so far this year.
  3. Snap. It's due to the amount of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) produced by diesel cars which irritates the lungs of people with breathing problems, such as asthma. It's not really a problem driving them in rural areas, like on motorways, as there is space for the harmful particles to dissipate. But in urban settings, the particles are trapped between buildings on either side of the road and thus get breathed in by pedestrians walking alongside the road. That is why yours and my cars are discouraged from entering the clean air zone, via the charge.
  4. I can see some sizeable upsets in this competition so wouldn't assume anything at the moment.
  5. Looking forward to people's recommendations for this year as I feel there's probably quite a few very good albums I haven't got around to listening to yet. My list starts with the same artist from my 2021 list, just a shame the lead singer left shortly after releasing the album and so the band never toured it: Black Country, New Road - Ants From Up There Jockstrap - I Love You Jennifer B The Smile - A Light For Attracting Attention Fontaines DC - Skinty Fia Danger Mouse & Black Thought - Cheat Codes Alvvays - Blue Rev Spoon - Lucifer On The Sofa Kendrick Lemar - Mr Morale & The Big Steppers Gwenno - Tresor Link to last year's thread here:
  6. I think it's more that it is just not in our culture. If you're after the type of tapas you find displayed at the counter then this is a really good place in Soho: Pix Pintxos :: Vibrant tapas bars in Central London (pix-bar.com) And there's also the famous Sabor off Regent St to: Counter - Sabor (saborrestaurants.co.uk) Never been but supposed to be excellent. You can just walk-in and grab a seat at the counter.
  7. Could be wrong, but I don't think there's anywhere in Bristol that does that. In Gambas you can sit at the counter overlooking the chefs kitchen and eat tapas which is as close to a traditional experience as you'll get. You can do the same at Cantina a few containers down, but with tacos and burritos, which is a very Mexico City style experience.
  8. Our Italian neighbours recently hosted a party at the Bristol one, so the food must be alright.
  9. If my history serves me correct the Welsh formed part of the original Britains along with the Bretons and Celts too. They were on these islands long before the Normans and Anglo Saxons (what became England/English).
  10. Thornbury Town ? The ISO recognises Wales as a country. Let's be honest; of course it's a ******* country.
  11. It was the same people saying England would struggle to get through the group. Yet here we are...
  12. Good luck taking your proposals to the Welsh and Scottish!
  13. Hence teams like Italy, who lost at home to North Macedonia, don't qualify.
  14. Let's be honest Wales are just happy to have qualified for a world cup. Their only hope of points was if Bale and Ramsey could find form, but both have shown they are done at international level. Wales played decent for 45 mins against USA punting the ball up to Kieffer Moore and that's it.
  15. The funny thing is that Neil Maggs is a regular in the Lansdown Stand...
  16. Quite. Also, I'm struggling to think of a major tournament winner that hasn't been built on a very strong defensive unit. Also, it is very unusual for winners of the world cup to win all seven games. Last team to do that was Brazil in 2002 I think.
  17. Interesting you go straight to mentioning Khan. The LDN congestion zone was brought in in 2003, a full 13 years before he became London Mayor. Fact is, dangerous levels of air pollutants need to be dealt with, by law. As I'm sure you know full well, the impact of air pollutants in inner city areas is far more dangerous than in rural/semi rural areas where most motorways are located.
  18. "Rock and roll the snickometer please, Mark"
  19. Bit surprised by that as it was packed on Fri evening. Bar 44 is really good too so sure you'll enjoy that. The gambas are excellent, as are the cocktails.
  20. People could choose to cough up, but £9 a day is quite prohibitive. More likely is people will avoid the area, or if they have the option use alternative transport. The London Congestion Zone has reduced pollutants by around 60%. As for London's wealthy playing the system - no surprise there.
  21. Not sure if you mean on Xmas day itself but I had a three course Xmas dinner at The Kenny on Sunday and it was excellent: Christmas & NYE — The Kenny (thekensingtonarms.co.uk)
  22. Because it is within Bristol's AQMA (Air quality management area), as is most of the city. When Andrea Leadsom was environment sec, her department basically got told by the courts that her air management strategy was unlawful as it was failing to deal with the hundreds of thousands of people that die prematurely in the UK partly due to poor air quality. The government were given a timescale to sort this out, and they basically passed the buck to local authorities to sort it out. Hence all the clean air zones we are now seeing. I think we've got off lightly in the first instance, as the clean air zone covers a small area of the city. They've targeted the worst area for air quality. Bristol had no choice in reality though, unless BCC fancied getting sued, which wouldn't have been ideal given its current financial predicament.
  23. Both. 1995 lost to a Matt Jackson goal, remember Everton fans celebrating on the pitch. Then in 1999 lost to two late Bakayoko goals. Can still remember a Louis Carey slip at fault for one of them!
  24. Away from home you're probably looking at Leicester at the new Walkers stadium in 2003. As we'd been in L1 a few years I recall it was quite an exciting draw at a big, new ground. But pretty sure Leicester were in the Championship at the time. The fact that game stands out to me shows how dire our draws have been. Meanwhile Oxford rock up this evening and draw Arsenal ?
