  1. When they interviewed Tanner on the radio after the game, he mentioned the change in formation and that the players were more comfortable playing in this system. It's pretty much the same players that NP has had available. I've said for months, as have others, that we had the players to play with four at the back. I feel it maybe something he may have wished he'd tried more often earlier. However...we are never fully aware of what's going on behind closed doors etc. Hindsight maybe.
  2. Three City youngsters at Yate now. New manager, completely different style of football being played, better results, more competitive, positivity all around the club again. Peter Beadle is thankfully a long distant memory. Worst manager I've ever seen tbh. Considering his professional background...clueless.
  3. Crikey...why bring me into it? Hello Nige...any chance you can spare BBSB a few minutes. No chance ..too freaking angry. ?
  4. Montenegro is somewhere I wish to visit, for all the reasons you say. Croatia is gorgeous, but in the height of season can get very busy. Partly due to exposure from when they filmed the last Mama Mia film there. Some of the islands have also become the new Ibiza. But in September it is less busy and still good weather.
  5. Dubrovnik or Split in Croatia has a great coastline, some decent beaches, lovely old towns, and plenty of places of interest to visit. Public transport easy to use and reliable. It's like a mixture between Italy and Greece. Like anywhere in Europe, the later you leave it into October, the less reliable the weather. If definitely October...staying short haul, Morocco or Tunisia.
  6. Like I said...in a perfect world...great, but imo it's simply not feasible. And yes...the biggest stumbling block is the climate argument. You are probably right with your flight example, but in the bigger picture how can we argue that against domestic restrictions? It simply goes against everything the agenda is trying to apply. All it reinforces is if you have the money, you can carry on regardless, but those with less...obey.
  7. Harry...much as I respect you...the sentence that resonates most in your post is...' I haven't necessarily thought it through'... How on earth can anyone think this is possible and acceptable in this day and age, when you can't drive across Bristol without worrying about being charged or some lunatic is glueing themselves to the road in the name of climate change. Having a world league with teams and fans travelling vast distanced on a regular basis... really? It contradicts everything the world leaders and world powers are trying to eradicate. However...if we are in the Bill Gates theory of if you have money and contribute to trying to help the world...you can do whatever you freaking want...then let's all fill our boots. Take away that analogy...then you have the domestic supporters to consider...and the policing of cultural differences. Good luck policing Boca Juniors v Napoli etc etc I've not even touched on the myriads of other reasons...in a perfect world, maybe...but in this day and age, it's a mental idea, full of hypocrisy.
  8. Most sit coms these days are embarrassing, as they aren't funny, so he'll be in good company. I much prefer stand up. I find Joe Lycett hilarious. Eddie Izzard was fantastic live. Both very clever comedians. If I do watch any sitcom's it will be repeats of stuff from the past. Mrs Slocombes wet pussy still makes me giggle. Inbetweeners, Little Britain, Fast show... brilliantly written and highly amusing.
  9. Has humour moved on? Are you basing that on what you watch just in this country? We are just being told what you aren't allowed to laugh at. Told how to think and laugh Comedy is like Art, music ...you can't tell people or make them like or not like it. Have you watched the likes of RAi in Italy? And other mainstream coverage in the likes of Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Turkey to name just a few? It's very similar to how it was in the past. Only in the recent past, of the likes of Inbetweeners and little Britain...now shelved. Yet you can still watch all of these programmes from the 70s and more recent on catch up and other outlets. Sadly many can't see the opportunity of how they could educate through humour. Imagine the buffoon character of Basil doing and saying everything politically incorrect, and the likes of Conny educating him on what's right and wrong? Wouldn't happen as the minority would shout loudest and not see the scenario. Laughing at him, rather than with him. What I find so hypocritical, is that mainstream TV and media go Politically ' correct'...that we are told it's not funny, not to laugh at certain subjects, not to make jokes in public about certain subjects...yet it's ok to be a stand up comedian, and we as the public, pay our money to watch them at a theatre, and laugh in that situation...but couldn't repeat the same things publicly in the street. The Pub landlord, Jimmy Car spring to mind. It's so hypocritical.
  10. In a non 'woke' world, it had all the potential of being very funny for the writers. Imagine the Character Basil, having to deal with, and come to terms with the various ' characters ' that would visit his hotel these days. If you were allowed to film the humour that was allowed back in the 70s, and relate it to various scenarios that could possibly happen now, it would be carnage. Imagine Basil dealing with 'illegal immigrants/asylum seekers' awaiting their hearing, being put up in his hotel. ?? Or the scenarios if a transgender couple stayed. ?? Post Brexit not being able to get a foreign chef/ waiter. ??? The writers could have a field day. A Conny like character trying to educate him. Lots of potential to be highly funny...but wouldn't get aired. Or if it did would be all over social media with people being offended.
  11. The humour used back then would be seen as offensive these days. I'm not sure how it could compare. The fact that Basil was portrayed as a complete nutter and what he said was often ' inappropriate ', and we laughed at him rather than with him, would be lost these days. I can't see from his character what he would be allowed to poke fun at now, for fear of causing offense.
  12. They just downed tools and walked out leaving £££££s of stock. https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-news/photos-from-bristols-abandoned-car-factory-are-amazing
  13. Some more fond memories here. Roger Malone, John Atyeo commentating and reminiscing. Fantastic atmosphere and good size crowd. And big Joe Jordan running the front line. Happy days. That was a fun day at Wembley.
  14. It's a thing...Yorkshire puddings v Cornish pasties...even the kids are now taking the piss out of em ??
  15. Thanks for sharing that memory mate. Really nice to hear. I had similar told to me by my late father. Seems he was loved by all. A gentleman and fantastic footballer. I'm not old enough to have seen him play, but so wish I had been able to. It galls me that Carey got the record for most games. My ex mother in law was related to John, she still lives in Westbury, his neck of the woods. Sadly no football stories, she just spoke of childhood memories. I've watched his goals for England...such a shame no world cup call up. Like you...I always smile at the statue, and think of my dad. That statue I imagine means a lot to many and brings back so many fond memories, both for football and family. ??
  16. I went pot holing once...never again for that fear. Mind you, I wouldn't fit these days
  17. ...the great John Atyeo choosing his goal of the month.
  18. You see so many vids doing the rounds these days. They must see them. Do they honestly think it looks ' hard' or represents what they are trying to be? It's always like a comedy sketch. They all look complete wimps and right tools. This one of Leeds fans at Forest is another...blokes posturing, acting hard, asking for it, put off by a steward and fighting with barriers...you see it every week at many grounds...?? They all look complete soft bellends ? just why? ?
  19. Reminds me of when this happened. https://www.nme.com/news/music/annie-lennox-radio-station-email-2096748
  20. Yes...happy to play Champions League, but then they go back to real football. Super league would divide opinion... it'll be like the LIV tour in golf. Fans also want to support home and away. Flight prices, hotel prices would all go up on match day. It's not sustainable imo
  21. You are right...there's an argument for letting anything go. For everyone that's caught, I'm sure there are many that aren't. So for those competing clean it's a lose, lose situation. The same with footy...I'd personally get rid of transfer windows and FFP. Invest as much as you want. There's enough idiots out there to fund it
  22. I personally don't think a super league would ever be successful. In the past maybe, but not now. Yes, sponsorship, media, TV rights etc. But the supporters of those teams wouldn't want it. The players, although being paid high amounts, would get fed up of the fakeness of it all. And the over riding element that would stop it, would be the Climate/ Green debate. You can't ask the general public to not drive their car across town, yet have clubs flying from nation to nation for a new super league and ask them to support that. Yes we have Champions League and world cup...however I can't see a new format being set up that goes against all the climate debate which is so en vogue right now.
  23. I totally agree. Corruption is everywhere. Some just hide it better than others.
  24. Oh I agree with what you say completely. Corruption and taking advantage of situations in football has been going on for ages. Since the very start. I just to try and see the bigger picture...as to what can be done to stop it. Tbh...I don't think there is a definite answer. Football at the very top has so much influence these days. The people involved...big power hitters. It's pure business and Politics in some cases. You've only got to look at Juve and Milan in Italy to see that in a glaringly obvious way for many years. It's very much a catch 22. We love our football...yet we support the sport knowing it's corrupt. In the same way we know the Government system is corrupt, and in some cases large businesses corrupt. Until systems change, and the public refuse to go along with it, it will never change. It's never ending corruption. From a human perspective, I find it very odd that we accept these circumstances, often buy into them, knowing full well it's corrupt, discuss it when it's brought to light ( even though we know it goes on) condemning it...yet celebrate if our team, party or shares come in as winners. It's nuts when you think about it.
