  1. In Peter Godsiff's history of City he states that Billy Wedlock and Len Southway were retained by City during WW1 to keep the club going. To maintain interest they arranged matched against teams from factories, the docks and service sides. The pair were only paid if City played Rovers. As a result, City played Rovers 38 times in the four war time seasons! With players serving in the forces, both clubs fielded whoever was available. Supporters remained loyal though and after a win at Eastville, Southway & Wedlock had to fight their way through an angry crowd steering a pony & trap through the mob.

  3. 72nd minute in today's Egypt v Morocco game; identical challenge, but outside the box and the attacking team was awarded a free kick.

    Injury Time...

Those were the first two games of the season and I reckon that affected our players. They developed a feeling they could not win. Next week is the chance for revenge at Blackpool (not far from Preston either).
  5. At the risk of being branded a heretic, 78-79 City had finished mid table in Div 1, Then those players who had performed so well tailed off leading to those successive relegations. Those players had been given long contracts to prevent them being snapped up by larger clubs. It's also been said that at the end of 76-77, the Board should have thanked Alan Dicks for getting us up and staying there that first year, but should then have paid him off and sought a more experienced manager to progress with.
  6. I remember City's equaliser being shown on the national news; and commentators asked "Will this be Bristol City's last goal?" It was also reported that hordes of programme collectors turned up just to buy that programme.
  7. Not according to the fans on their forum: https://www.pne-online.net/forum/index.php?threads/match-day-pne-v-bristol-city-29-01-22-ko-15-00-championship.3435359/ Should be an easy win given they have only scored 13 goals this season, BUT this is PNE . Home win 2-0, fingers crossed. I'm taking my 5 year old grandson for his first visit to Deepdale this afternoon. Very much hoping for an entertaining win and a good positive atmosphere to maximise the chances of him wanting a second visit soon! I am looking forward to today more than I have for quite some time.
  8. I read in today's paper the EFL have decided to give Derby another month to see if they can raise enough money to complete the season. On one hand the EFL are trying to preserve the solidarity of the League. On the other hand, one more month is one month nearer the end of the season, so not as much cash needs finding.
  9. I visited Ipswich today and was told there's grumbling that the Summer's signings haven't been too successful and most will be moved on next Summer.
  10. Five clubs in Lincolnshire; four have dropped out of the League and Scunny look set to be next. It just seems odd that all of one county's clubs should fail over the years. in 1912 Gainsborough Trinity were voted out after finishing last, their place being taken by their local rivals, Lincoln City. Lincoln City were the first team to be relegated automatically from the League in 1987. They bounced straight back, but were relegated again in 2011, won promotion again in 2017 and are still with us. Boston got into the League, but only survived five seasons; anyone on here go when City played them in the JPT? Grimsby relegated, promoted back up and relegated again. Scunthorpe; currently 23rd in League 2 and six points from safety, so will presumably be gone at the end of the season.
  11. Thanks, but it doesn't work as I can't switch off my add blocker.
  12. So did I, but not recently; http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Luton_Town/Luton_Town.htm
  13. As posted previously; since changing to BT, although I can see Sky channels, I cannot access the red button. Is there a link to the game as we had on Saturday please?
  14. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/football/excellent-signing-–-plenty-of-preston-north-end-fans-react-to-news-of-aston-villa-transfer-deal/ar-AAT5Cnf?OCID=IE11FRENTP&MSCC=1643039143 Preston North End have been eager to add another forward to their ranks this month and they’ve finally done so by bringing in Cameron Archer on loan from Aston Villa. The young striker has looked impressive when given the chance at Villa Park and whilst he managed to bag a hat-trick against Barrow in the EFL Cup and also notched one against Chelsea to boot, it appears as though regular action under Steven Gerrard may be hard to come by for the rest of the season. Instead, the attacker has now been allowed to leave the club on a short-term basis and it is PNE who have the won the race for his signature. The 20-year-old will be eager to get going and prove he means business and boss Ryan Lowe will be happy to have another striker to choose from.
  15. Legally the Stewards could have removed that flag as it "was likely to cause a disturbance inside a sport's stadium" That's because they want to see a decent game and stadium.
  16. From their forum; https://www.ccmb.co.uk/showthread.php?451665-Morison-OUT/page6 Pack and Flint
  17. And it continues today. 1-0 down and then equalise, all in the first five mins!
  18. agreed; https://daddylive.click/stream/stream-161.php keeps freezing, so 'm a few minutes behind OTIB..
  19. I'm glad of that goal. I thought only one player was allowed to score in a game; Weiman, Semenyo and today Martin. ?
  20. A well struck goal by CM there, but if that had been against us, we'd all be moaning about the atrocious defending. Thank you Cardiff back 4; feel free to go missing more often.
