I actually took Advanced Gasonometry as an option at college. I don't remember all of it but a typical question was:

    Away Games:

3,000 travelling gasheads arrive at Wycombe (three part question, 12 points available)

    a) If the away capacity is 2,500 how many fans are locked out, and how many is this reported as being in the Bristol Evening Post (2 points each, 4 points in total)

    b) How many police horses will be punched after the game if (i) Rovers win (ii) the game is drawn (iii) Wycombe win (1 point each, bonus point if all three answers are correct, 4 points in total)

    c) How many sheeds will have been in the home end if  (i) Rovers win (ii) the game is drawn (iii) Wycombe win (1 point each, bonus point if all three answers are correct, 4 points in total)

    Tricky stuff Eddie, that certainly is advanced Gasonometry....I'll have a crack anyway;

    A) (i) 500 are actually locked out, however as we know that this figure is way too low you MUST find out how many "they gert ******* SHIT EDS" (tgfSe) last took to Wycombe** and add at least 1000. Anything above this figure is considered correct.

    (tgfSe) + 1000 > = Gas locked out

** obsession and knowledge of Bristol City's away attendances are considered 'basic' Gasonometry. A good, true Gashead will instantly know exactly how many fans we took on our last visit to Adams Park.

(ii) the figure printed by the Evening Post will, coincidentally, be the same as the figure conjured up by the cretins on Slagchat who have used the formula in the section above.

    B) (i) as many as possible "horsey SHIT ED ***t s"

    (ii) 82

(ii) depends how many sheed Horses are in the home end who just come to watch da gas.

    C) (i) 2000..."HA HA LMFAO GUTED SHIT EDZ LOOOL"

    (i) 50-100

(iii) 0....the home end was full of Gasheads who weren't included in the away crowd figures so that's another 2000+ to add on to the Rovers away total. No actual proof for number of Gasheads in the home end is required. If 'tgfSh' don't believe you whilst asking you to "prove it" immediately stamp feet, call 'tgfSh' "jealous of Irene n da famous quarterz" and ask if Bristol City have ever taken 80,000 to Wembley for a League 2 Play Off final?

Serious point, do you think the reduced AG capacity would have enticed fans to get STs and bump up the attendance in the event that if you had a good season they wouldnt be scrabbling for tickets.

How many STs did you sell out of interest?

That would be a very expensive way of trying to make sure you've got a seat on the off chance that you might want to attend the odd match.

As Cynic says I believe ST sales were capped at 12k which I guess means we could potentially have sold more. A good season last year and promotion obviously helped sales.

I don't think we will go up, I suspect we will get beat in the play offs, but I have enjoyed this season , as I did last season as well.

I think the important thing about watching your team, is that you do, at times, get some sense of enjoyment from it all. Rovers have alays been a big part of my life, and if I'm honest there were times when it all meant far too much to me. As much as I loved beating you in 1990, the build up to it all was unbearable, and I could think of little else. Then there was that run of derby games where you just could not seem to beat us, it should have been great for me, but all it led to was me dreading each time we played you thinking 'they are bound to win eventually'. It was almost a relief when Donowa scored and got it over and done with.

Then there was the whole 'never in the bottom division' thing- which actually was never true, as the third division south was the bottom division for years, and we were in it for nearly it's entire existence! Also the 'only ever been one division between us' was another monkey off our back.

Of course I never wanted Rovers to go into the conference, but now it's happened (massively helped by the fact we got back straight away) I can, hand on heart say I'm glad it happened. After the dodgy start, winning games was fun again, and- believe it or not- the fact that you were absolutely running away with it in the 3rd division, meant that I stopped worrying about your results, something I had been far too obsessed with in previous years.

Don't get me wrong, an ideal weekend for me would be us winning and you losing, but a reverse of that no longer ruins my weekend, and IF we do ever start playing you again on a regular basis, I think I may be able to enjoy it all a little more than before.

Anyway, I've just realised Saturdays like today without football are just bollocks, it just leads to me drinking several pints at home and posting sentimental bollocks like this.

Having just seen your run in Miah, I'd be amazed if you didn't hang on to one of the  automatic places.

Dont think our average for next season will differ from our reduced capacity this season...16,000??....

Don't know really, do we? Depends how well we do on the pitch...success on the pitch usually attracts higher crowds. Either way, the fact that we consistantly sell out when we've been in the bottom 5 all season is something we should be proud about.

If we stay up and have a similar season next year as we have this season then I think the 'new stadium' (or at least 'completed redevelopment,) effect will certainly keep crowds at the level they've been this season. Like I say, do well and we'll have higher gates.

    IMO.

  5. They had a full house yesterday....taken them long enough this season but then it's amazing how many 'loyal' Gasheads suddenly remember they support Rovers when they look likely to get promoted.

According to many I've seen on Facebook, yesterday's crowd PROVES that they have fantastic fans and need a much bigger stadium. Imagine how bursting with pride they would be if they'd had as many 'sell outs' as us this season at the wrong end of the table?

Hope they don't get promoted but they probably will, don't mind too much as long as we stay up.

I recently read a book called 'Bovver' written by a Bristol Rovers fan who followed them through the 70's & 80's in which he alluded to the notion that although City had a slightly larger fanbase Rovers had the far tougher element within Bristol and all the 'softies' supported City. Is there any truth in this or is the author being biased?

    Take a guess...

Bear in mind they aren't known for being truthful about anything.

You've got to,say that they are probably going up automatically now. Arse.

Surely they'd want to go up in the Play Offs and take 26,000 to Wembley again, like they did last year?

    Massive support

I expect there will even be tickets available for Pompey fans like Weezord...

Oh and and average of 20 posts per day and hundreds of views per day is a bit obsessive

See the last paragraph in my post above Dave regarding the fact that we have thousands more members on OTIB so hundreds more posts per day and lots of Gas stalkers adding to the view count.

They are not significant enough for me to spend any time thinking about or discussing (bar making my point today obviously, before you hilariously pick up on that).

Just puzzled as to the thousands of posts about them but you carry on.

I see where your coming from Dave but there's always been threads about Rovers on here as there has always been threads about City on thier forums (despite how they pretend otherwise).

The problem is that they keep giving us things to laugh at the about, it may not be everyone's humour but since they gave us both barrels about our relegation to League 1 in 2013 and the Ashton Vale fiasco I've REALLY enjoyed their constant gifts of either failure on the pitch or failure off the pitch.

This isn't unique to Bristol football, taking the piss out of closest rivals happens on all forums that I've seen, it's just our forum is much busier than others and they've given us more ammunition recently. The countless threads they start on us get moved to the 'general sport' section of their forum because they only have threads about Rovers in the main section where as OTIBs main forum is for all football chat.

As we have thousands more members our threads will have hundreds more posts and you can guarantee a sizeable number of 'views' are from Gas stalkers wanting to know what's going on, so just for them....

:sub: Hi Slagheads....How's the new Stadium going?

Your owners have set up a holding company for Rovers. Dwane Sports.

    http://www.bristolrovers.co.uk/club/contact_us/

    It's registered in Jersey.

All we've heard for years about Lansdown is he's a tax dodger.  Now its ok... obviously.

Yes...It's appears all the fake outrage they direct towards Lansdown (who jointly created a company that pays huge amounts of tax and provides employment for many Bristolians) was just them being ******* hypocrites again.

    Who'd have thought it?

Sainsburys have won the appeal.   But it makes no difference to rover's getting a stadium, starts in summer.   Also now debt free according to companies house.

I suppose it depends what your version of 'debt free' means. Gasheads are constantly bringing up how much 'debt' we are supposedly in, even though that 'debt' is to our owner. Still it's nice that your Arab sugardaddy has started spunking cash on the Gash.....like a credit card, it doesn't really feel like debt when your buying nice new stuff and you know the bill doesn't need to be settled for ages.

Like Ive said before, thank God we've got Lansdown, at least he's proven he won't **** off at the first sign of trouble.

Like a certain play off game vs Northampton in the 90s, the stadium at UWE isn't quite as nailed on as some would think....

I believe I'm correct in saying that you hinted, long before rumours of a consortium appeared on Slagchat, that despite the original decision in court Rovers had other  financial options that they were exploring...options that would also prevent them going out of business.

    .....so this post is interesting.

    Dwane Dibley?

For people of a certain age who may watched certain programmes in the 90's (before they ruined it by making too many series) it's difficult to hear the name 'Dwane Sports' without Danny John Jules voice automatically popping in your head..... "Dwayne Dibley?

Well you pretended to support another football club when you first posted on here, I think you're very embarrassed about the club you support.

He really, really wanted to be able to post on OTIB saying that the club he supports had a higher home attendance than City that weekend....obviously can't do that as a Gashead so he pretended to be a Pompey fan.

    Tragic really.

Spending £70 million for a place in league 1 playing Rovers isn't embarrassing at all, what do you mean

Clubs have spent more than us and ended up in L1 or lower, indeed Bolton already have 1 foot in the division below. We were there last year, and if we're there next year we'll have a go at getting back to the Championship as soon as possible. Fortunately for us our owner stands by his mistakes....I wonder if you'll be so lucky if success isn't as soon as Mr Al-Qadi wants. It amuses me that so many of you 'loyal' Gasheads acknowledge how embarrassing it would be for us to be in the same division as you....doesn't say much for the opinion you have of your own club. I guess you must be used to bottom division football.

Although, you're Pompey fan aren't you? Definitely not an embarrassed Gashead pretending to support someone else?

WOW........Will this come back to haunt him ?............."we now have a top, class young manager on the verge of securing us back to back promotions, a group of players who are proud to wear the shirt, 2 well respected gas legends in Stewart and Yates on our coaching staff, new wealthy owners and new directors who will deliver us a "World Class" stadium, and a real feel good factor around the club. In a few months time the Bristol derby may well be back, how embarrassing that will be for our obsessed red friends. Up The Gas! And see you soon

I like the way some of them, like this fella you quoted, are almost proud of the fact that City fans would be embarrassed to be in the same division as them...it's like their saying "we KNOW how shit we are" :rofl2br:
