Something about players that cross the Irish Sea , particularly from ROI

I always feel , maybe just a hunch , and skewed memories (Not with us but across English football) they show genuine hunger and desire , (Knight And Sykes maintaining that feel 👏🏼) and always seem to fuel a bit more hope of a gem , than recruits from other areas

I was just about to agree with you  wholeheartedly, and to compliment you on a very insightful observation?.................But than i suddenly remembered Callum O ' Doubtful ?

    Ah! Good ol’ Dante’s Purgatorio.

OK OK......While you pseudo intellectuals revel and show off   your Latin references..............Let it be known that Adam only has that Tattoo as a tribute to his favourite Westlife single??

  3. Welcome aboard Adam, we are all looking forward to watching you play.   And as long as you perform to a successful level................it will be no time at all till you will be off to the South Coast to join our  Senior team in Bournemouth? 🤓

    Simple answer: yes! 😉

When @headhunter interviewed Joe Royle last year he used the same words as you, even the same number!

    It’s a major part.

The others are - Academy - to avoid the need to pay to recruit, and selling players to recruit the next lot.

FWIW I do think recruitment has improved.  I hope it continues to.

I honestly have not heard the Joe interview....I will seek it out, is that The Forever podcast?  I was there when JR scored all 4 against M'boro, always loved the guy.

  5. Around 20 years ago we played Brighton at the Millenium Stadium, and we actually appeared at one time to have a certain symbiotic relationship with the South Coast side.  We lost that day to a late goal, and   from then on in   our trajectory's have veered in very different directions?  We had the major advantage of a Millionaire.....subsequently...... Billionaire owner, yet Brighton, 20 years on, are playing in Europe and sitting comfortably in 7 th place in the Premiership, while we continue to languish as a mid table Championship side, seemingly no closer to the Prem than we were 20 years ago?

It seems to me that the difference between Brighton and Bristol City appears at first sight......... to be all about....recruitment, recruitment and recruitment?   Choosing the right manager, and having the right scouting system,  which allowed them to identify and recruit exactly the right type of player, whom they then sold on, and then continued to replace   with other excellent footballers, and in the meantime seek out outstanding manager/coaches to keep their ambitions nicely simmering away?

Is it that simple?  Is it purely their ability to find and recruit exactly the right players and management over the   years, which has allowed them to leave us in their slipstream, and all this, despite Bristol City seemingly   having all the advantages and support that should have allowed us to also reach and thrive in the Premiership, as they have?    What is the fundamental difference between our two sides, that has eventually ended up with such a massive disparity in our current positions?  Is it really all about buying the right players and employing the perfect manager/coach, or is there more to it?          I WANT to know?   Ha!!

Slipknot at AG. Probably too loud for the locals, they'd all complain at the noise..

I think they're great though. The fact they are sneered at by the average jo makes me like their music even more. Corey Taylor is an extremely talented front man imo.

Seen them a few times, but now they are a 3 I can't muster the excitement.

Muse were excellent down at the Gate, would love them to return.

Stones would be superb to return too.

Stones!!   The greatest and most long lived rock band on the planet......they cannot be over emphasised or be out done!!  IMHO

If it is, do you fancy taking my Joe with you.  He’s desperate to see them!

    I’d be up for that.

Seen them twice, and have also met Joey before his unfortunate demise.  If they play AS, it would be my privilege to take your Joe along.

What's your favourite Westlife hit? Or are you more into Ronan's solo material?

The fact that Westlife's 3 top selling singles were all cover versions says it all.........they were pretty boys loved by pre pubescents and housewives.....But they did have their own chocolate bar!

After the Watford game, there were numerous contributors coming out and stating how well-coached we were, quite clearly suggesting that we were poorly coached before (not a view BTW shared amongst a number of opposing teams we have  played) . It was not even Tinnion saying it.

So were we as well coached against Birmingham and Milwall, or were Birmingham and Milwall better coached than us? Because one shot on target in 2 games does not look like a well-coached side to me. That is back to the old days of Holden and LJ. We looked anything but a well-coached side in the second half against Milwall. We were out thought and the team and substitutions had no impact as the game was taken away from us.

Or does Manning only coach well when we win? It has nothing to do with him when we are awful, when players are also clearly following instructions from the coach.

Looks to me like Manning is learning on the job, which is normal, and he also seems adept at doing that which is positive. But some , including Tinnion and the owners are in for a shock if they think Manning is going to transform this squad into something it is not and that we were not well coached and managed before. We were, even with some minor changes to approach by Manning, the overall result differences will be marginal.  We are a Scott and Semenyo sized ability short of a full load. We have no magic or stand out players. We are in the mix with the other 10/12 Championship sides who are all much the same. Inconsistent, lacking in real quality. However, if you do not turn up, do not apply yourself to every game, with commitment and desire, in the Championship that gets you into a relegation battle in my view. We will not have that unless we get a lot of injuries as the core ethics are there.

It will be interesting to see if we repeat the performance against Watford in a couple of weeks. That will be an interesting test, as it will be one of the games Manning will have this season with a home and away game against the same team.

Having just got round to watching highlights of the Bournemouth v Fulham game over Xmas.....it reminded me of the enormous gap Scotty and Semenyo's departure has left.  They were both outstanding, and were/are.   both game changers in their own right ......we just no longer have that type of player in the side, and in games like today's bore fest against Millwall, theyr'e is just no one capable of producing anything different when it is needed?  We are desperate for some guile and pace in midfield, and the travesty of bringing in Cornick, after someone like Semenyo has left, is a sad joke?   I do think the amount of games over Xmas are too many, and it lowers the quality, with players on both sides knackered...Ha!!  Not that is an excuse for that dire performance.  Let's just hope that LM manages to bring in the extra quality during the window, but i am not holding my breath.  And, like you, I think the Watford game will be an interesting test of Manning's tactical nous?     Watching B'mouth, made me realise just how much, along with everybody else, that   our side really miss Scott and Semenyo's abilities, .....         and it might well be a long time coming till we see that level of class in our team again  ?

He's well off it at the moment - cuts a lonely figure nowadays.

No way do we get £5m for him. He's still learning and will hopefully improve

There is no doubt in my mind that he is quality......but he is young, being played in the wrong role and gets no service.  In the the correct tactical set up he would thrive, I am very Disappointed in LM for persisting with the lone striker formation?  There is nothing wrong with the tactics, it is just that Tommy is just not suited to it?  I do appreciate that LM has little choice, to an extent, so it is now up to him to find a solution during the window, and show us just how tactically aware he is?  We have failed to score against Rooney's (GONE!) Birmingham and a very average Millwall side.............Tommy should NOT  , and i am certain will NOT be sold, but it is now up to our new manager to create a team that plays to TC's strengths.

Those who have been aghast at the NP situation are now justifiably feeling smug. There was no need for the change and now the new manager bounce has finished we have reverted back to what we are, an inconsistent mid table team. I am 60 years into supporting this club, 30 as a season ticket holder and 15 as a season ticket holder with my children so I feel its my team. I might not have billions but a significant amount of my time and money has been invested. No one is interested I know but you can't keep defending this incompetence.

The only thing i would point out is..............NP had 32 months, and quite a few transfer windows, LM has had just under 2 months, and NO transfer   windows.  So a comparison at present is fatuous?  Make like a Jedi....and show a little patience?

Agreed. He said on the radio after he’d only had a few weeks with the players on the grass. It’s been two months now, like many I thought it had started to click but today and Friday would say not, two of the most boring games of football seen in many a year.

It might seem like an easy excuse...........but with a small squad....3 games in 6 days is inevitably going to lower performances?  As much as i love watching football, that amount of physical effort seriously lowers quality, and produces some dire matches?  Too many games, in too short a period, often  fails to give out a lot of entertainment?

This feels slightly premature to me after Scott's played 6 games, especially as Rico Lewis (over year younger than Scott) has featured semi-regularly for Man City, and Levi Colwill (6 months older) is playing consistent for Chelsea, as with Harvey Elliott (4 months older) for Liverpool. Plus, depending on definitions of young player, Saka is still only 22 and probably in contention for best player - young or not.

I'd argue Scott needs to stay fit and keep us his levels for the rest of the season to get to that level. As it stands, he's also (I think) yet to make an England U-21 squad.

He's made an impressive start and, if he keeps it up, he'll certainly be in that "best young English player in the division" discussion but he's yet to have an opportunity to show he can perform consistently in the Premier League over a sustained period.

Maybe i should have qualified my opinion, by stating that they are young players who are NEW to the Premiership?  As the players you have referred to, have all played significantly more games at that level, and are all relatively established at their respective clubs? Saka especially, who is an outstanding talent.

  16. 1 step forwards followed by 2 steps backwards..........we are what we are..........an inconsistent mid table Championship side?  I don't believe we will see any significant progress until next season, and that is ONLY if LM is given a realistic transfer budget?   It is so frustrating when you see so many of our ex-players flourishing at other clubs......and then witness just how impotent our present team look at times?    It continues to be the case, that we languish in a football world where over two games, we take 1 point from Birmingham and Millwall without even scoring a goal?  Where there is life there is hope?,   apparently............but what a very depressing outcome, after the promise of Watford away?  A New Year.....but a same old Bristol City?   PS.  I do also fully appreciate that with the limited resources at our disposal, and the inevitable tiredness after a run of 3 games in 6 days.........it is a frustrating but almost understandable outcome??...........I am just pissed off, i guess, just like the majority at today's game!!   Happy New Year!

I don't especially disagree with you and I agree on the Parking stuff too ie justpark.com etc.

However and yes it's also football wide, but when you have a £35-40m gap in TV revenue for 3 sides, a £39m limit to adhere to (plus an extra £22m in allowable losses for each PL season up to £44m..either £61m, £83m and or £35-40m or £30-35m depending on which year of Parachutes..or £5-10m if a 3rd year), non Parachute clubs are in a very difficult position.

I encourage people to shop around but this is also a factor.

Yep..........I lie awake at night worrying about the poor souls................Ha!

Personally I would rather walk the length of the Portway  or walk from chew magna even at my age than pay for parking , it seems football is becoming a cash cow for anything and everything around the game , wages , tickets , food , drink , parking , merchendise it will sooner or later disappear up its own arse

It's called "TAKING THE PISS"   It is a disgrace the way football  club's exploit every last revenue stream, as they know fans love their club...............so they make sure they take maximum advantage of that, by screwing them for every penny?   It will only get worse!!   Yourparkingspace.co.uk and justpark.com  are not perfect, but at least it is not the fat cats coining it in, but individuals prepared to rent out their driveway for a few hours?  PS There are probably a few more than those 2, but they are the ones i have used in the past successfully...............?

  19. At 20 and 21, IMHO Cole  Palmer and Scotty are the two best young English Players in the Prem at this time?  PS.  I see little Lee's reputation as a coach/manager continue's to plummet, as he was unable to even hold down a job in League 1?
