commentators are pissing me off when they're saying "Where does a performance like this come from" when the answer is in front of their eyes, we're being tactically outplayed and not changing anything that'll impact the game. it comes from a lack of our ability to break down a team that doesn't need to attack the game.

This is nothing to do with tactics, it's about 16 players who have barely strung 3 passes together

Personally i see him in a different light, he's done a lot of good things in his life despite the adversity, where did the chip on your shoulder come from ?

Russell Martin . A ego on legs. What a arrogant cock

A posted this on a previous thread, an interesting read:

Martin was born in Brighton, East Sussex, to parents Dean and Kerry.[2] He has two older brothers, Jamie and David, and a younger brother, Pepe, while his parents also fostered. His father was a taxi driver who subjected Martin's mother to domestic abuse and had spent periods of time in prison. His father's gambling addiction saw the family lose their house in Hollingbury, moving to Hollingdean.  Prior to signing with Wycombe he was cleaning pub toilets in the mornings prior to school, then working in Spar in the evenings.[4]

Martin established a charitable foundation in his hometown of Brighton, initially set up as a football academy, named the Russell Martin Foundation.[5] The charity aims to use "the power of football to help change people's lives" by providing access to football, education, and health courses in the local community.[5]

Martin has been a vegan since 2014, initially for health reasons as he sought to manage issues with ulcerative colitis.[6] He is also a part-owner of Erpingham House, the largest vegan restaurant in the UK.[7] In a 2018 interview, he stated that he had joined the Green Party of England and Wales.[7] He is also a proponent of Buddhism.

Preston are hugely overachieving their underlying numbers.  Famous last words but I see them falling away.

They seem to of overachieved every season since we came up together

Photos from their matches suggest a lack of youth attending already.

I guess many will give up the ST and buy occasional match tickets instead.

I am not a commercial person but surely they need a 'loss leader' to hook people in, then they become ST holders in later life?

Good news for City I would think.

It seems on gas chat that a lot of them will just attend away matches instead, that could mean 10,000 locked outside instead of 5,000

  6. Totally un-related to Manning but thought i'd share this about Russell Martin, seems like he's had an eventful life quite different to his persona !!

I don't go on Gas chat - but if someone who does can post our prices when they are released....

I get that they have a smaller capacity & need to maximise revenue per "seat" - but the prices they are charging are outrageous in most cases, compared to ours.

No wonder (regardless of level of football that you'd be watching) that our support base is growing & we are attracting the new generation of support.

Plenty like to slag off those in charge of our club - but it's a stark contrast between us & them, in how well things are going, off the field, & I'd suspect that Rovers announcing their ST prices will actually have just helped increase the number that we sell ourselves..!

Kids prices are woeful, no monthly D/D option either, that's bound to put many off

No, after beating Swindon 1-0 in front of almost 13k we still had to beat Chester.

Trevor Morgan put us 1-0 up in front of 3k travelling fans but Zelem equalised in the 81st minute. Morgan then scored the winner on 87 minutes to clinch promotion, followed by a mass pitch invasion and Terry Cooper conducting the chanting fans from the stand.

An absolutely fantastic day after all we'd been through as a club and fans.

As the EP said the next day:

'All the financial problems, internal wrangles, and disappointing results of the past 5 seasons were forgotten as success starved fans mobbed their heroes at the final whistle. Alan Crawford lost his shirt in the battle to reach the players' tunnel, Glyn Riley was raised shoulder high and Tom Ritchie found himself buried in a heap of bodies offering congratulations.

The volume of noise seemed to shake the ground to it's foundations, especially when the irrepressible Cooper appeared in the stand with his victorious team to lead the singing.

It matched the night in 1976 when City were promoted to the First Division. The achievement may not be comparable but the emotion felt by fans who 2 years ago feared they may no longer have a club to support created scenes to remember'.

Left our wreck of a rented van at Chester and caught the train home instead, most of my all time favourite away games came in the 80's up to '90, some fantastic memories, that Torquay game was a strange night for so many reasons 😅

As expected, following the announcement that said nothing but placated idiots, they’ve launched their STs for next season.

Worth comparing the price of their South Stand with ours, and also note that they charge more to watch from the sides than a Dolman wings ticket costs….

They're up in arms on gas chat about these prices, many refusing to re-new, it's a great read 😃

Some people just don't get it?     As I couldn't be MORE behind the new Manager    .....and my comment was far from snidey IMO.      You must surely be aware of the constant criticism   LM has received by a number of posters since he was appointed, forever stating that we are no better off than before NP was dismissed?   I have always taken the stance that comparing his achievements over a period since November   (21 games yesterday)    with NP's two and a half years was misleading and unfair, and that patience and tolerance were needed to allow LM to introduce and adopt a new playing style.  I stated on numerous occasions, that given time, I  felt that LM  would be prove to be a success  and in the long term would prove to be a  major step forward.  But NO, I was told by other posters that we are NO better off, and why was NP dismissed, as we should have stuck with him, and are in the same place as we were under NP anyway?   My remark was aimed at those posters who constantly referred to the "Nothing has Changed"       syndrome, and was meant as a humourous reference to their lack of patience with the new manager.....who has, as i have predicted  on numerous instances started to turn things around.         I  note that i have received around 20 replies to my innocuous aside, I cannot be bothered to read any , other than yours, as i imagine they are of the same kneejerk quality, and completely miss my point?    To finish, if you can be bothered to read......I was a big fan of NP, and felt he was poorly treated by management, but just like you,  I more than adequately have got behind the new manager, and have defended his approach and tactics on this forum many times to his detractor's             I despair sometimes at the over reactions on this site by certain posters, some people need to get a sense of humour, and get off their high horse?   In My Considered Opinion, of course?

I agree with practically everything you say and was clear in my point of view that i felt NP had taken us as far as he could, i wanted a younger and up-coming manager which is why i  advocated Cooper and Martin when they were available causing much angst to many on here but my point was that we need to move on without NP's name constantly popping up in practically every other topic from the pro and anti NP camps, just for the record i was delighted when Manning was appointed, time will tell if my enthusiasm for him is justified but the early signs are promising

Yep, saw a few slips, maybe the pitch was over watered but the surface was sound and flat, not exactly Upton Park in the winters of 1970.

    Or the baseball ground

I was actually thinking how quiet (our end, saints were loud at times) it was in the first half and how many empty seats there were.  The turnstiles were quiet, was really easy to get to my seat which normally takes ages for a big crowd.  Whole rows empty in the south stand and Lansdown and around us in the Dolman.  Must have been way under the 24k sold.  Anyway, once we got ahead and the nerves settled the atmosphere was brilliant.

An amazing amount of empty seats, i really don't get it, it is a good point though that many stand up at the back or join section 82, also always surprises me how many just stand in the concourse for so much of the game

I note the "Cult of Nige" are quiet tonight?  Ha!     PS.Not that i have anything against Uncle Nigel.

I was one of the biggest voices in wanting and agreeing that NP should of gone but i have stopped trying to justify my opinion in any posts in the last month or so and have decided to not mention him as it causes too much division, might be wise for others to do the same and just get behind the new manager and leave out the snidey comments  ?

So are the heavy shirts affecting their ability to play? 😳

**** me I've heard it all now!

The weight of expectation playing for the likes of Real Madrid, Man Utd, Bristol Rovers eh...

So full of their own self importance...

God help us if they are ever able to beat the likes of Fleetwood, Burton Exeter etc and actually make it to the Championship, we'll have to put up with this sort of nonsense, and worse, every week
