Were I a believer in the conspiracy side, I'd say that FIFA want a lot of shocks but ultimately.

Not the Messi v Ronaldo final that many state but France v Argentina aka Mbappe v Messi final.

Passing of the torch to the new greatest player from the last. (Arguable, granted).

    Where do both play? PSG.

    Who owns PSG? Qatar.

    Where is the tournament? Qatar.

Passing from the old to the new in the World Cup final would truly reflect the glory of Qatar- and perhaps by association, PSG.

Just to add fuel to your flames @Mr Popodopolous I see the BBC are reporting that today a European Parliament VP has been arrested on suspicion of bribery by a Middle East state......take a wild guess at which country is being implicated?

First time  I’m actually excited for an England game for a long time - it’s a real 50/50, big game from Walker and Henderson tonight and we’ll beat them. Whoever wins tonight wins the tournament

That is a totally reasonable assumption but I would not discount Portugal too readily, especially WITHOUT Ronaldo.

For what it is worth I think England will win tonight.

Michael Appleton levels of loyalty there.

In some ways an odd decision @Major Isewater. He apparently turned down Wolves as he wanted to take QPR to the PL ( which, looked a possibility), then a few short weeks later he goes to a much inferior league, albeit with a club that can win domestic trophies.

The other strange factor is that back in the homeland it is very widely reported, and has been for some time, that Rangers are not awash with money.

He is apparently close to the DoF at Ibrox and that may have played a part but still an odd choice in my opinion.

I'm fed up with people making excuses for Southgate and shouting that those of us who want him gone only shout when we are losing. No we don't. The bloke is the most negative coach to have held the role, his substitutions and game management are pathetic. To keep selecting his favourites is wrong. If the muppet concentrated on football instead of all the peripheral crap we might actually win something.

To actually claim after the game he enjoyed how we created from the back sums him up!

The quicker he is gone the quicker we can move forward

His negativity cost England Euro 2020.

I simply do not understand why Phil Foden does not start every game if fit. He is a generational talent, ask Pep, yet he goes with Mason Mount.

Sorry, I just don’t get it.

We’ll get 10mill at best for him IMO but probably closer to 5mill with add ons. Would take it though if it meant we could reinvest properly in Jan window

Would be stunned if we got anywhere near 10m and 5m with add-ons also seems a stretch right now.

His form has dipped and he is not a regular starter at the moment, I truly can’t see much interest as things stand.

  6. According to an article on the BBC Football site, which is predominantly about the fans zone - a fans zone with little shelter from the sun - the cost of the tournament to the host nation is £160bn!

In these difficult economic times the cost of bribery seems have gone up a level or two.

    FWIW

    Winners Brazil

    Top Scrorer Mbappe

    England round of 16

  7. When the story broke before the WC squad was announced it was pretty clear he would not be selected

    Silly,Silly boy.

I know it is a relatively rare occurance however, the rules are crystal clear, why be so stupid.

Hi buddy heading out for the Wales game will be looking for somewhere to spend the day leading up to the game . We have red some hotels are letting day visitors in for a fee to use the pool get food ect. If you see any can you let me know please

    many thanks stick

Never been to Qatar but in Dubai this is standard practice in hotels that can sell alcohol and is extremely popular but is usually a weekend thing.

Obviously a different country and not during a major sporting event so the rules could be very different for either or both, of these reasons.

Looks like Hibs fans want him out. Might be an extended stay down here

To add, they’ve lost 6 out of their last 7. All sounding familiar

Watched his post match interview from the defeat at the weekend on the BBC Football website.

No need to watch it, just substitute Hibs for Bristol City and you will know all you need to know.

I thought Walker was injured and likely to miss the tournament so i didn't include him, otherwise just Trent in for Tomori from my guess
Gallagher (forgot about him, wasnt on the squad selector I used!) instead of Ruben-Cheek
No Sancho or Bowen, Wilson & Rashford instead

Don't think there's any real suprises there based on the last few team selections.

It's hardly awe-inspiring, but then we've not left out any shockers IMO just unproven hopefuls.

This was the World Cup that the FA targeted to win. Lets hope he pulls the handbrake off

And the key point is the ‘handbrake’, which is the reason England did not win the Euro’s. 1-0 after 8 minutes against an aging Italian side, albeit on a good run, and he tries to shut-up shop - niave in the extreme.

I am not one of those anti- England Scots, I genuinely want you to do well but with Gareth in charge I can’t see more than the last 8.

Lets be fair about this NP is here for the money/contract as there was nothing better at the time; he will be gone sometime and soon if his boys dont start bagging some points.

As for the next manager if SL is picking him expect no improvements, Leopard and spots come to mind, so whoever from the list matters not we dont count.

With the career NP has had I am absolutely certain he does not need to worry about where his next square meal is coming from.

I suspect, if Saturday does not go well he will walk away of his own volition without any payout.

In truth, the reality probably lies somewhere inbetween because all people are neither all good or all bad.

The thing that probably surprises me more, is the fact he is prepared to leave them again after having him back.

I know they say there is no such thing a loyalty in football, but blimey.

I would imagine that Southampton will be offering a contract that will be at least x4 what Luton pay him, maybe more.

Also, they have been given permission to speak to him that does not nessecarily mean he will be offered the job.

IMHO, This forthcoming WC should never have been Allowed or Authorised.  It is a permanent stain of corruption on FIFA (if there is any room left for any more stains)?, and i will never understand why various countries FA'S have not protested more, regarding Human Right's abuse's,    and objected to it taking place In Qatar, and in November/December?  Football - "The People's Game"   Is a Big Fat Joke of a Misnomer?   ???    '

Agree with all that. What is equally disappointing is that no players from any of the countries that have qualified has turned and stated that they are not available for selection.

Not a surprise but still shameful.

  14. We all saw this coming.

But given the state of the public purse and the economy in general this sets a hugely dangerous precedent by HMRC and not just in football.

Nothing to stop the owner of a limited company that is struggling to not pay taxes then put the company into administration, buy it back from the administrators at a highly discounted price and pay HMRC 25% of what was originally due.

There are more than enough business owners that would take this course of action. Madness, and a real kick in the teeth to individuals and businesses that do pay their dues.

Any manager at any other club. He’s gone. It’s time to go.

Not getting the best out of this squad and it’s actually embarrassing how bad we are at defending set pieces.

And I will ask the question again, although I don’t expect an answer, who do we replace him with?

Yessssss, finally a manager turns down a PL / bigger team.

Not surprised, as I said further up this thread.

He is still learning about being a manager and a move to a PL club so quickly could be fatal for his career - might not be, but it could.

I think he has done an excellent job at QPR so far so if he keeps that up and makes the top 6 or dare I say top 2 the PL will come calling again.

  17. I thought Bilic was a good appointment albeit for a basket case club but it would not surprise me if he was fired before Saturday.

I listen to 606 when I can and the Watford fans have had enough of the chopping and changing, the owners need to be careful or they will seriously alienate the fan base.
