The discussion has been done to death but imho he is as good as (actually well above) what we can expect to get in our current situation. Who would you get to come in?
And that is the key point isn’t it? We lose a game with a poor performance and the usual suspects come on here stating NP needs to go and that it’s all down to him that we lost or did not play well.
Maybe I have missed it but NOBODY has come up with a credible alternative.
I am certainly not picking on you @JoeAman08 as you are far from the only one but should SL fire the manager or, a far more likely scenario, NP walks away, who is on your list of possible replacements?
Serious question as I am genuinely interested in who you or anyone else thinks could / should replace NP, if that was to be required.

Absolutely right and there’s a third question - what would happen to the Scottish Premier without the Old Firm?
Many in Scotland believe that without the bigot brothers the SPL would thrive.
More teams would have the opportunity to win trophies which in turn would increase attendances.
When either of the ugly sisters travel, yes they bring their support but, they also bring trouble meaning higher policing and stewarding costs for the home club.
Despite the CL results Scottish football is starting to thrive with a lot of young talent being produced, many of whom are playing abroad.
Personally I would love to see them both go but who is going to have them?
There is no way that they should simply walk into the EPL but, as SAF said last week, were it to happen, within 5 years they would be challenging for the top 6 with the extra revenue available.

As has been said by many on here previously, you wonder what JET could have achieved in the game if it was his total focus.
Accept it was a league lower but what a player on his day.

It’s like he’s in a hacked football manager save. What can you even say about stats like that?
I read somewhere in the last week or so and I don’t think this has changed, that he has scored more goals than games he has played - astonishing.

I bet he wouldn't have scored half as many goals at Man Utd.
Incredible impact he's made - but it's really not hard to score goals, playing for Man City.
And that is the point. Man City are a fantastic team - forget, for a moment why, they simply are, Halannd takes them to a different level.

Bit misleading though, isn’t it?
Peterborough still owed us £500k from the original fee, so this isn’t anything unforeseen or that we wouldn’t have already budgeted for.
The sell on profit was just a further £160k, better than nothing but hardly a game changer in terms of our finances.
Agreed. I think funding the Messi deal next summer will still be tricky for us.........

Feels like like the right time at the wrong time unfortunately, if Germany beat us on Monday then the FA have a decision to make especially with Pochettino and Tuchel available
Never happening in a million years. Gareth will be on the plane without question.

Couldn’t care less about the nations league. Hopefully we improve in the World Cup. Euros overall was positive despite the final.
One game to go before the WC and it’s a dead rubber but against Germany. A game England realy can’t afford to lose.

Our first major final for half a decade gets no credit? Fair enough. We all see things differently. He should have managed that final differently no doubt but to get no credit for getting there isn’t right
Nobody remembers the runners - up. Particularly when England should have won.
He is paid a huge amount of money to win football matches and remember you are about to be relegated in the Nations Leauge.

We need the footballing equivalent of Brendon McCullum to come in, remove the fear of failure and let the players show their talent.
Southgate is too meek and conservative, he did very well to get us to a semi final and final in the last 2 tournaments but we need someone to take us to the next level and get the best out of this fantastic group of players.
Would not disagree. But Southgate is a ‘company’ man and his job is safe..

How can he be very poor if he got us the final of the euros? I’m not a massive Southgate fan but ‘very poor’ is a bit harsh
Don’t agree. Got to the final, go 1-0 after 8 mins and sit back against an aging Italian team that were never coming back from 2 or 3 down.
Poor poor coach who has achieved zero in his club management career.

It is as @cidered abroad says got a lot to do when the Spanish eat in the evening along with their traditional siesta which is not observed that widely nowadays.

Fifa rules now allow players to play up to three times for a nation before the age of 21 before being tied down. Declan Rice played three times including in a competitive match for Ireland before swapping to England.
Interesting, I didn’t realize that.

Fulham have done it a bit differently this time, granted this is their 3rd yoyo attempt and they will have learnt a few things.
7 permanent and 4 loans, somewhere between the two really of keeping faith and building a whole new squad.
Granted, an ability to keep in particular Adarabioyo, Reed and Mitrovic then arguably too Tete and Robinson certainly will have helped. When they came down in 2021, I didn't think they would have kept all 5 of those! Rodak and Cairney also have their uses albeit perhaps not as regulars anymore.
I think Nottingham Forest might have gambled to some extent and Fulham likewise in 2018 on building a squad not just for this year but for the next few years. As in buy big now, if we stay up a good few of these can get better and better together, integrated, cohesive and it's tweaks not masssive changes in the coming years that are needed.
Have to stay up in that 1st season though!
I think it’s a question of timing @Mr Popodopolous If we assume the new players do gel it needs to be soonish or it will be too late.

After he got Leicester promoted and they were doing well why did he leave/get the sack for the club to then bring Ranieri in to take the plaudits for winning the Championship?
IIRC there was an unpleasant incident involving young Leicester players on a post season trip to Thailand, this was a club trip and involved Nigel’s son.
Nigel lost his job over this / resigned, can’t remember which.

Don’t think a prem move will hurt his chances of making the Ghana squad in my opinion. Plus I bet he will enjoy the big pay increase.
I think that too,is a fair point. Being in the squad of an EPL team every week with maybe some game time probably trumps being first choice in a middling Championship side.
Like all of these things none of us know what is really going on or indeed may not be going on. We will just have to wait and see BUT if the lad is going to go then the sooner the better for us - what we don’t need is this dragging on until the very end of the window.

His best chance of making the Ghana WC squad is by staying here, getting back from injury and playing…imho.
I think that is a fair point @Davefevs but then again he might back himself to actually get some game time at Palace and make an impact - it’s a tricky one for the lad, if , of course, Palace, or anyone else is actually interested.
In situations like this money talks and as we all know IF there is interest his wages would increase by an incredible amount.
You also have to look at it from the clubs prospective - we could do with the money and if his valuation is met then I would expect a certain encouragement from us for him to go.

Not that I care one jot, but they are in real trouble.
The club is totally geared towards commercial success and the financial income of the owners. I think Gary Neville tweeted that the owners took out £24m last month!
The new manager wants to play out from the back and as a start point, you don’t have the keeper to do that.
I really doubt they will be challenging for many years.

Brentford have done ok out of buying and selling, and buying some more. It's not what you do (most clubs are doing broadly the same thing) it’s the way that you do it. And that's what gets results.
I agree and that is where we have failed. Pre-covid we had some decent money come in and SwissTony and LJ wasted it.

Yep, very highly rated as a coach but still a rookie as a manager, not sure this would be a wise move for him and I am equally not sure he will take it if offered.
