SPLIT DECISION?

Serious question, What has Betty done to wind you all up so much?
Most Somerset fans have a problem with him due to 2013 incident with Trego. Batty actually received a ban for that particular incident!
He’s always been cocky, arrogant and smug. Was at Edgebaston a few years ago and watched him turn around and tell a bloke to **** off in front of a bunch of school children. Admittedly the bloke had been laughing at him for dropping a catch but he couldn’t keep his cool. Final against Glos a few years ago he went into the game thinking he’d won it already. Had an argument with fans at Worcestershire a few years ago too

I'd love to challenge Tom to who hates Surrey more. Think I win it by a mile. I hate them. I even support Somerset against them!
Gareth Batty one of the most deplorable humans on the planet

Bess in.

Another great fightback from Glos and James Bracey in-particular, such a shame he's a gas head
-
Another fantastic start for Zummerset, fair play

Getting used to England for the tour?
Yeah that's why he's coming over. There's a few others too. Axar Patel is signed for Durham, a couple of others too I think. A great coup for Surrey.

Virat will play against Somerset.

Shame Sharma is about to go 5-20

Not bad by Glos too.

Not bad by Renshaw...

Probably not enough... 21 overs left to defend 82

Jesus, what an appalling scorecard for Somerset. 3 in double figures! It's a good job Leach managed to stay around for a few overs to get Renshaw his ton. Providing the wicket isn't great and Renshaw just batted brilliantly on it, this could be a good opportunity for a win for you lot I think. They've not got too much in the batting department...
@MichaelRobartes I hope you liked this call better

I suppose it was. I just thought it was funny that he got a ton on a pitch that everyone else struggled on. That's probably the only score he'll get now given our luck with overseas players!
In his defence he was 21 years old and had India, Bangladesh and South Africa away tours back to back to back. Hard to think of many youngsters who have gone over there and batted well. He's probably better than his numbers suggest
I see Markram got a duck for Durham, but that wicket looks to be an absolute mess up there.

After 'Middlesex', it seems the Taunton pitch will be less conducive to spin this season.
Given the (probable) lengthy absence on England duty of JL, it would seem that our spin options will be limited to Dom Bess, a promising off-spin bowler and, indeed, if his recent performances in the WI can be repeated this season, surely a welcome all-rounder.
At Championship level, Cove is also a proven, albeit inconsistent, all-rounder, though I am not convinced he will be lost for much of this season on England duty.
I know you didn't mention him in your post, but Cove's younger twin brother Jove is extremely fast and, if he can prove himself injury free, relatively consistent and discover his prevous form, it may be Jove who is taken from the Somerset First XI.
In answer to your question, however, whilst, regrettably, our first Championship will most likely have to be postponed for yet another year, I believe we shall avoid relegation.
If Jove spent less time in the pub and conditioning his body he'd probably be better than Cove. Just my two pennies worth on that one though.

I have to ask @Tomarse, @phantom, @PHILINFRANCE and any other Somerset fans.
What are the chances of you surviving div one if Leach and Cove are away for a lot / some of it? Not fishing here, genuinely wondering

But only for the first four games - he will be available form May onwards (according to Cricinfo).
Aiden Markram, the South Africa opener, has signed for Durham for the first four games of the County Championship, with the New Zealand batsman Tom Latham taking on the 50-over captaincy when he arrives to fill the overseas spot until August.
Markram will arrive at Chester-le-Street in time for Durham's opening home Championship fixture against Kent in April, and will stay until the start of the Royal London One Day Cup in the middle of May.
That's because of this years schedule. There's a 3 week break in the middle of May to early to mid June where there is no CC. He isn't playing the shorter format of the game so no point in him hanging around here. South Africa likely to arrive in Sri Lanka 20th July (roughly) and presume he will want a couple of weeks at home with his family before that tour that begins August 1, which at best leaves him free for 2 CC games. Probably not worth the money
