  1. Sam Bell and Dylan Kadji back in u21s this afternoon, suggests a couple of the ill players are back tonight.
  2. suggests at least two ill first teamers are ok tonight (Kadji / S.Bell was on bench) Nige on the bench too.
  3. AG isn’t 100% cashless btw….half-time draw tickets are cash. ?
  4. Gould and Marshall are conducting the search. The rumour when Gould was appointed was that Nige wanted Bevington, so he didn’t get his way on that one though.
  5. I always thought that we were a yo-yo club as a result. Signed players in lg1 because we were a big club, attractive, could pay better wages than most, but then those players could not step up, had no need to step up in their wages. That’s a big generalisation but it’s how I felt. We do have done Champ stability currently and we are back moving in the right direction. It’s an evolving process. Atkinson was the big, strong signing, but cost us £1.6m!!! The first part of addressing it is identifying it, which has been done. From the scouting group stuff power and pace is high up the list of needs, but so is technical ability. I think recruitment can be improved, but with no money, the pond is pretty dry. It’s a compromise at the mo’. Yep, Chairman in name only because it’s daddy’s money. Fever Pitch is his baby, and he should stick to that. Nige put him in his place. Indeed. It’s getting the balance of power, strength with the technical ability, and unless we pick up a nugget on a free or from Lg1/2, they tend to cost £££s! Definitely the opportunity to further evolve the squad, but also mindful might take time to gel and the off mistake too.
  6. Reminds me a bit of Tom Ince, quite upright in how he plays. Has shown quality every time I’ve seen him this season. I did some stats for Harry and the boys ahead of the weekend. I like him. Thought he and Kite had good games, but Plymouth’s pair Houghton and Randall had the more quality around them to shade the battle. Harry likes Houghton, I like Randall. By the time I’d finished reading this thread, I see Harry has replied!! Harry has been “on him” longer than me. But he’s “clean”, he doesn’t make errors, and for someone so young, that’s huge. One of the few keepers I wouldn’t worry about size with. Normal adage of a “good big un is better than a good small one” doesn’t apply with Cooper. He’s out of our reach financially as it stands. as above Harry a longer admirer than me. @redcherryberrywas discussing him over the summer with me, he gave Klose and Vyner a tough game at Home Park, pre-season. Clever movement. Knows how to play close enough to his marker without being marked…if that makes sense. I like Nombe. Bit raw, but interested to watch him develop (late developer at 24). Doubts over his finishing last season, but he was in and out of the team. This season…. Both sides are teams we should be all over their youngsters from a scouting perspective, and forging ties re loans too (assuming they’d want any of our young players as they produce enough of their own in Exeter’s case)
  7. …and that his job spans more than the 90 minutes.
  8. Dave P always invites me, it’s family commitments that stops me.
  9. https://www.skysports.com/football/story-telling/11095/12734982/nigel-pearson-interview-bristol-city-manager-on-changing-the-culture-at-the-club assume they will show sone if this pre-game tomorrow? more interesting stuff.
  10. Unlikely, there is no broadcast deal for Carabao Cup, so nobody can stream it to the likes of Hesgoal. Best I could do was to register on the other club’s iFollow account and watch a full playback the next day.
  11. See the defensive corners thread, Saturday’s were pretty decent…except the short one!
  12. What we tend to see when 1v2 or 2v3 happens is that one of the defenders makes a late run to the box, and drags our player with them. In your approach, if you leave one or two up, are you brave enough to ignore a defender making an unopposed run into the box?
  13. Believe it or not, that’s what we did at the start of last season until Xmas, and the only goal we conceded was O’Hare (Coventry away). But we got sussed out!!! I wrote this last December. Maybe I shouldn’t have!! Helps when you have Baker, Kalas, Atkinson and Martin to attack the 6 yard ball.
  14. He will be giving half of it to the tax man, whichever way he gets it!!! ???
  15. Naismith - I doubt it was in the magnitude of the figs quoted above though! Bentley - £300k would be at the sacrifice of wages, which has no real benefit does it?
  16. Big signing on fees are no longer the norm for OOC players…not below PL anyway.
  17. Corner 1: Aimed to midgoals area, good delivery but headed away by Cabango. Corner 2: Taken short, Scott hits it straight at on-rushing defender. The clip didn’t show the set up, but Swansea open to the 2v1 as defender slow to move out to support his teammate. Corner 3: Sykes starts at far post, marked my Obafemi Then he bends around the central markers / blockers. Loses Obafemi who is blocked by Vyner. Unfortunately his glance is so slight, it doesn’t go on goal. But a classic example of where m2m marking fails…a really simple run around a block. Good delivery, Shane Sykes didn’t get a better connection. Corner 4: Pring blocks Darling, who wrestles him to the ground, but Vyner gets away from his man. The delivery is just too high for a free Zak, and they head the ball away. Corner 5: Great flat delivery from Dasilva. Just evades Vyner at near post, gets a touch off their player and goes out other side for another corner. Corner 6: Another short one…cue the groans. Well worked, Scott gets a shot off but it’s blocked. Corner 7: Deep delivery, James loses out to Darling at far post but we retain ball through Pring. All in all, our corners were well delivered (bar the first short one), and on another day, we might well score. We see a couple of examples where m2m has its flaws too.
  18. Might get a nominal fee but wages would be the big winner here.
  19. That’s brings painful memories from school. Wasn't the story that Bristol City Council ordered 1000 rolls, not realising it was 1000 pallets!!! Hence why all Bristol Schools had it for years. Probably an urban myth, but is quite funny.
  20. Yep, posted way back at the start of the season, that I suspect Cov might also be working to the £15m FFP limit, rather than the £39m (backed by owner). Couple that with Cashflow issues, and you can see them having to sell in January. Hyam already sold in the last window to Blackburn.
  21. Might not have won the first ball on that corner and others with one less in the zone. Newton’s Third Law and all that! Don’t get me wrong, despite mine and @spudski’s differing views, I don’t think our current set up is optimal either. Every set up is a compromise in some shape or form. In a utopian world, we have players who have been briefed about opposition corners, can identify their triggers and set-ups, and are smart enough to adjust to each one in-game / real-time. That’s not gonna happen in this current squad. You still might concede to the perfect delivery, or concede to a fluke though.
  22. Cov fabs were awesome at AG last season, sang loud all game. This season not so much.
