Should we really be spending money on the Mem IF we are getting a new stadium soon? Is there a problem or big delay anticipated?

Yes when i hear talk of work being done to the mem it does make me nervous about the uwe going forward. Apart from Hamer media speak we have heard nothing concrete since the takeover. I do hope we can break ground by xmas as the momentum the club currently has needs to be maintained.

    Have the penny just dropped

At last one of their own is starting to ask relevant questions.

And as funny as it is to watch them implode (which is what will happen) genuine football fans need to get real and ask the searching questions that need to be asked of their owners - especially in this instance.

All is not as it seems, I see it, we see it, looks like someone over there is starting to see it too.

Funnily enough the AJIB is paying a 7% dividend this year after a 12% dividend last year.

It has been said the dividend is so high because of the perceived risk.

Are you suggesting that Mr Al Qadi is offering to pay someone 5% interest on a loan of  £30 million to cover the stadium funding shortfall and that Rovers will pay the £1.5 million interest per year out of their profits but if for any inexplicable reason they can't then the Al Qadi family will pay it instead using the dividends received from the AJIB ?

Forgive me but it sounds as though you went to the Nicholas Higgs School of Finance.

I believe if you asked Mr Al Qadi or Mr Hamer they would tell you that they are looking for equity capital and not a loan.

But if someone is being asked to put up £30 million they are going to demand an extremely convincing business plan plus a very high equity stake.

Indeed the capital being asked for versus equity stake is not viable for the finance to be provided.

Add into it the risk, which in this instance is exceptionally high - an example for you; Fund Managers in particular are not going to part with their investors cash because they would be (a) stupid to do so and (b) are not going to get paid from the deal = ain't going to happen.

The need for a multi use stadium in Bristol & Greater Bristol area (I include South Gloucestershire in that) is limited as there happens to be one about to be completed in BS3 as we all know.

If you count in the catchment of The Millennium Stadium to the west, the Madjeski Stadium to the east, the numerous Stadia in Birmingham to the north the business plan fails.

For Rovers to seek outside funding for a stadium of their own its a very tough sale so the question back to Wael has been is "If you want one of your own then you have to pay for it yourself"

Well that's a load of nonsense. Bankers look for outside investors because the return they get on their investments is higher than the interest they pay for loans for the investment, so long as that loan is secured on a safe source, ie the Al-Qadi family. In other words, it's cheaper for them to borrow the money than to use their own cash to fund the stadium.

    Subsitute 'own cash' for 'None'.

Nobody in the city (that has been subject to an approach) wants anything to do with the financing of the Stadium.

I've said previously the meetings have gone "like a scene from The Producers", leaving financiers blushing on behalf of your owner.

Its sad, because you don't see it and sad because owners like this treat football fans with utter contempt.

Add your club to the list of people who shaft clubs, or do something about it and start asking searching questions of your owner whilst you still have the chance.

Nicholas vowed he would only sell Rovers to someone who had the finance to carry out his UWE Stadium plan.

But he must have got himself in a bit of a muddle when he sold the club because it appears Mr Al Qadi doesn't actually have the finance himself which is why he has been looking for outside investors.

However the potential outside investors may well have found that the location on a University campus is a severe hindrance to the type of development which they would need to build to provide them with a satisfactory return on their capital.

So the only way to finance the UWE Stadium would be unsecured venture capital from a risk taker who would be gambling on the football club being transformed into a valuable asset which he could eventually sell at a profit commensurate with the amount of cash he provided and the risk he had taken.

The amount of capital needed to bring the UWE Stadium plans to fruition would be huge compared to the amount of capital which Mr Qadi needed to buy out Nicholas, his friends and MSP Capital.

Therefore, it follows by virtue of the relative amounts invested, the risk taker providing the capital to finance the UWE Stadium would become the majority shareholder in Bristol Rovers FC and the Al Qadi family would be reduced to holding a minority stake.

Is this likely to happen ?

If it did, would Gasheads be "crying like Jim Chapel" ?

Read a previous post of mine about the hawking around being done by Wael to city financiers

    Nobody wants to touch it.

Playing a dangerous game there. Banter is fine but casually using terms like scum on social media with a photo of yourself he's either a complete bell piece or he's one chip short of a cod lot.

    In this case both apply...

Not doubting you, but from what I gather was DC was upset about the takeover in so much had no idea about it happening and probably was unsure where that would leave him.

I guess the new board/owner and Clarke have spoken so either got on alright, if they haven't considering the job he has done, what put the new boys off of Clarke?

As far as I am aware he was on a 12 month rolling contract, so now we have now offered an improved deal to keep him. So no love lost seems a bit odd to say. If that was the case why not let him go and agree compo

Your owner wants his own man and team he's appointed however he is aware he needs to appear populist.

The conditions set out by your club for compensation are what's holding it up, the money won't be matched by Wael in terms of wages Leeds are offering.

what was this rumour. genuine question?

Isn't that the 1st rumour or worry when someone takes over any club that no one knows whether they want the current manager.

looks like we have offered him a contract so can't be that desperate to get rid of him

Not a rumour, was intent on doing so until Wael spent time with him and the team, gave him to end of season as saw a promotion was likely if he didn't rock the boat.

As of yesterday there was no offer on the table for DC from your club, he's only reacted due to this news.

There really is no love lost between both parties.

Indeed, if offered the job, its a tough decision to make. A club of that ilk minus the owner would be a no brainer.

    Agree but money talks.

Think about it, a truly BIG club (whatever is said Leeds are even though the glory days were some time ago) come in for you and offer life changing money to what your accustomed to.

Couple that with being set up for life if you get the bullet and a reputation reasonably intact as if you fail (you blame it on a loony owner), he can just walk away and still get another decent appointment.

Could be his only chance of managing such a big club, He could be sacked at Rovers by xmas if they are struggling badly.

Indeed he was going had they not have been promoted this season, as a result his loyalty to the new owner went out the window.

Interesting to see if he does go where that'll leave them.

Would imagine Dopey would have got more from the side with less investment than a new manager will, but if the squad is already heavy with non league players following the decision to offer them all new deals, could take several transfer windows for someone to build a squad they are happy with.

Assuming of course that Wally has any money.

    He hasn't.

DC knows this and has had no concrete assurances about his future and investment in the team.

The only firm offer has been new contracts for the squad.

Nor has the back room staff had any firm assurances about their futures.

When I heard the Leeds interest the other night it was received by the company I was with positively and dare I say it with the money being quoted an offer hard to refuse.

Expect much more discontent, this is just the beginning.

In the interests of balance, can someone do an A4 laminate of this please?

OMG the blue few / 15'ers are so deeeelooooded!! They really are the gift that keeps on giving! We don't even care about them anymore because we are an established championship club with loads more fans than they will ever have. Everyone likes us more than them and our manager is not only a tactical genius, he's much better at giving interviews. Our ground is going to hold 27,000 rugby fans next year and we didn't even have to steal it because our owner is bloody loaded. Why don't those sags follow his example and be turncoats, they know they want to because they're just bitter that their rivals are sooo much bigger and better. And the best bit is we don't even see THEM as our rivals!!  Ha, the gift!

I was bantering with a gas head at school the other day and guess what!! He said that we might be playing derbies again in 2 years and that they could have a big ground too!! Totally deeeeloooded, what a gift! This proves that their entire fan base (which isn't even as big as ours) is totally obsessed with us. I told him we don't care about you one tiny bit, we never sing about you at the Gate and nobody even speaks of Bristol Rovers anymore! Ha!

Their shirt is shit and Irene is a slag. But I wouldn't even know what their shirt looks like of how Irene goes because they aren't even rivals! I was chatting to a Real Madrid fan the other day and he had heard of us but not them!  When I told him they got relegated to the conference and that we never talk about them anymore he couldn't believe it. Have that you blue bastards!

Our song is much better than theirs and when the whole ground sings it, they can hear us up at Bemmee Down library. Oh when the red red Robbin shoots his Bob, Bob Bobbin it's time to move along. Shhh. Tick, tock, tick, tock, mind the gap gassers!

Not a direct quote admittedly but IMO a reasonable summary of the first 211 pages on this thread.

Why is it all I thought about was this whilst reading your post...

Come on then, fess up, who's "bitter"???!!!

    Guilty as charged......

    Bitter? No.

    Realistic? Yes.

Funny isn't it that when someone points out the facts coupled with a dose of truth your called bitter.

Things are really not as rosy at Rovers as they are being led to believe but let them go on thinking Wael is manna from heaven.

As I said the other night loose lips sink pirate ships.
