Well quite. I made the point on here more than a week ago so I'm not going to labour it, but this continues to baffle me to this day and will for the rest of my life if the country suffers badly this year or I lose friends or family to this disease.

As mentioned before there was literally historical precedent for being able to ground all flights across Europe at the drop of a hat, so why didn't we do so when we saw this developing - even from regions affected would have been a start.

People were flying in from Northern Italy and tweeting their free passage through UK airports unchecked when it was already out of control. Yet try flying into Heathrow from Lisbon if you're not white - they can do it if they want to. ?

I'm amazed the usual newspapers didn't make a fuss. A few dark people in a rubber dinghy off Dover and they all lose their shit, but 1000s of people flying in and out of the country from disease central and no one says a ******* thing.

I can only guess the government was a) worried about financial hit to airlines, b) inconveniencing Brits skiing in Northern Italy and/or c) simply isn't up to the task of taking back control of borders, other than as a soundbite to win votes.

The double standards are astounding. The country has been consumed for years with the threat of foreigners and whipped into a frenzy to control the border. Given the first practical exercise to do so we do **** all and no one says a thing.

If they had been refugees arriving from Lombardy, this would have played out very differently...

Indeed, and such irony. The blonde blustering buffoon wanted to"get Brexit done" so as to have greater control over our borders. It's laughable if it wasn't such a serious blunder.

I sincerely hope everyone gets the help they need, I saw a comment on another site that all that self employed creative tax accounting and the IR35 big earners are paying the price, maybe we’ll see a more level playing field after this, as we all need each other to make the country work as it was.

My son is a chippy, so under CIS tax system. Three large jobs he would have been working on until mid summer have been pulled. In the unlikely event that he could find any work he has the problem of child care as the schools have closed.

I should add that under the CIS system the government actually owes him a fair amount, as he's over paid tax, which is usual under this system.

But it's too early to get the tax return in. So he, and millions like him are doubly shafted!

I know you like a bit of stats, and were discussing our approach...

Boris said yesterday we are 4 weeks behind Italy and he hopes 13 weeks from the peak. On current trends we are only 2 weeks behind Italy but putting that to one side, I think the Government is judging that other countries have gone 'too early' and still have much much further to go. If Italy carry on their current growth trends for a further 9 weeks...well, its a scary thought. The aim seems to be that however much we try, we are all likely to end up getting it sooner rather than later, so best we try and 'flatten the curve'.

Equally, there seems to a view that whilst shutting everything down will slow the thing, sooner or later the moment you relax, bam, it will be off and running again until we have built up some herd immunity (by basically enough of us having caught it). We clearly cannot shut down everything for ever.

I am not sure we have it right...buying time is really precious right now. It might be Italy slow it right down and it explodes there again next winter and by then we are much better positioned. Equally, if a vaccine has been developed we will look a bit careless, to put it mildly.

I think that is football done for this season either way. If the peak is 13 weeks away, and we are therefore curve wise back to where we are now in 26 weeks, no way are we in a better position three weeks away than we are now.

I've read this bit several times, but I'm damned if I can fathom it out. It must be me though in my advancing years, ?.

Reckon you'd make a brilliant politician!?

IMO we also can’t panic and shut everything down as the long term impacts to the economy will impact many more of the population for years to come, Italy could be screwed financially by shutting down to soon, then realising they have to keep shut for even longer, which could then result in even more deaths.

I thought the approach we are taking seemed sensible and measured and based on actual statistics and studies, and it was good to see this kind of response which, even if you don’t agree with it, no one can deny it’s not based on information

This, it seems to me is very much a significant factor in the UK Gov's approach to this.

I did some very simple/basic calculations based on Googling a few things.

Let's say that there are 28 mill households and that £300 per week for each household is enough to keep them going over a shutdown period.

Let's also say that a 10 week shut down should see us through the worst of this.

That would cost the Gov £84 billion

Now consider that they bailed out the banks in 2008 to the tune of £500 billion.

All very simplistic, but makes you think how much our health is worth.

Any chance that there might be some hot water in the toilets tomorrow, for hand washing purposes?  Normally I leave the toilet with near frostbite, after rinsing my hands with ice-cold water and then giving them a blast from the arctic hand-dryers...

    Good luck with that!

The water and hand dryers are warmer in the Lansdown Stand loos than the Dolman.

Bristol Post saying he self isolated immediately after he returned, which is good news at least. I hope it doesn't spread fast

Seems very lax if passengers arriving from N Italy are not health screened or quarantined.

N Italy appears to be more of a threat than China.

Hundreds/thousands kept on a cruise ships, whereas travel to and from N Italy carries on unchecked, or so it appears.

Never mind, wash your hands and sing happy birthday.

Not S Glos, but aren't both The New Lawn (Nailsworth) and their planned, all wooden stadium both in Glos?

Perhaps @bert tann erred when referring to S Glos - unless there is some truth in the rumour of Lyde Green....

FGR's new stadium will be near J13 M5.Stroud exit, and yes definitely in Glos ?

You otibists like a riddle so here is one  which must be solved by March 31st. Date for submitting BRFC/Dwane Sports accounts.

Caroline Lucas and her party appear to be popular, Green, i.e. Dale Vince/Forest Green especially with the young, but never seem to make any headway in creating a power base small FG crowds. Is this because our rulers, here and worldwide, have successfully outmaneuvered them by using front organisations to implement a "bread and circuses" Tents/Bristol Rovers strategy ?  If so, it may explain why her royal exoticness Dale Vince might be planning to buy our tented sideshow Memorial Ground and keep the performances going while a verdant Green Lawn/Forest Green new big top Forest Green's new stadium is constructed in South Gloucestershire.

But for Rovers, if this grand scheme falls through, the rare breed chickens will truly be coming home to roost.

Dale Vince has plans to purchase Bristol Rovers and/or The Memorial Ground?

Rovers to ground share with Forest Green in their new stadium or play in their old stadium once the new one has been completed?

Not a clue what this is about. But FGR new ground will not be in S Glos.

Not wishing to bring this off topic re the CO story, nor wishing to be disrespectful to anyone, but what was the outcome of the financials surrounding this deal?

Last I recall was that Cardiff were saying they wouldn’t pay. Is that still the case or have they paid up now?

The last I read was that Cardiff were still in dispute with Nantes and were still querying the legality of the deal. I may be wrong but I haven't seen any reports of payments being made. I'm not sure if the bereaved family have received anything either. Tragic state of affairs from all perspectives.

Can confirm it is at best (from a sag perspective) 50:50 in those two areas. With lots of building in the area I think it's been 'invaded' by reds.

In my experience Kingswood is still heavily Rovers to be fair.

If it was 50/50, then during my 20+ years there, the blue 50% were very much under cover!

Last 30+ years in Frenchay I can't recall ever seeing the "famous quarters" being worn in the locality.

Didn't someone put some demographic maps on here showing the distribution off fans throughout the area, a while back?

So what are the rovers hotspots then? Hanham, St.George,Downend, Mangotsfield, Keynsham, Warmley, Yate?

You can strike off Downend & Mangotsfield, having lived a good chunk of my many years in them, my experience confirms the " blue few".

    Few being the key word.
