I also don't like cash plus player deals. Most of the time you get a sum of cash and a disaffected player who is not wanted by his current club and is nothing more than a make weight for someone else.

Finally I think if Scott is sold for 20M or more it's delusional to think we'd spend anymore than a third (if that) of what we receive.

I'm so glad you mentioned that, whenever its been suggested that has been my thoughts, totally agree

Did you know David "Polly" Perkins?

Born on the same day in Southmead, we lived two hundred yards from each other. Both went to Charborough Rd infants and later on to BGS.  Great person even if he did follow the Gas.

Also Maitland Horler was ex BGS and a hooker for Bris United mostly.

I have a picture with the three of us as fairies in the school play Midsummer Night's Dream. A fairy hooker. Ha ha.

To be honest the names are familiar but it was 60 years ago now (I'm now mid 70's) & details are a bit thin in the brain. Names that do stick with me from my rugby days are Brian & John Gee (twins) & Tony Shardlow (good at most sports), I'm sure other names will come back in flashes but at the moment not many.

The joys of getting old eh

So did I, my Dad took me to Eastville before Bris rugby and City.

February 1950 on a miserable wet Saturday against Palace. I can't remember any goals but as we were sliding down the Muller Road mudbank ( before concrete terracing) all of the first half, Dad decided we'd had enough and left any half time.

That brings back good memories, I had a couple of games at Bristol Rugby in the early to mid 60's alongside John Pullin & David Mann before motor bikes & girls got priority.

Average to fairly good was my words. I stand by what i said about crazy money. 8 million was too much and half decent championship defenders you could pick up for far less money. I think we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one.

To be fair, we didn't really want "half decent" defenders but I'm with you on the "crazy money" even if it was the going rate

The usual suspects will criticise and talk down about all of our signings, that's their right. But I'm gonna give the team of Nigel Pearson, Jason Euell, Curtis Fleming and Brian Tinnion some credit and say maybe, just maybe, they know a bit more about football, footballers and tactics than even the best posters on here.

    Spot on mate

There is not a chance they will sell a prized asset for £1.5m.

Not a chance. IMO anyway, they even turned down bids when in administration.

Would be a hell of a signing at that price but I can't see that bid making any headway.

Re Insurance, it seems to be not the same.  Player himself will have insurance, but clubs don’t tend to insure injuries and premiums too steep and conditions too restrictive.  They will cover life though…and someone said they might cover specific tournaments like the WC / Euros where they aren’t with the club.

    No, you’re thinking if Bcfcshagpile!

G'day Dave, do you know anything about the clubs stance on insurance when it came to Bakers injury. Did the club just do the right thing by him because of the nature of the injury or would they/he have had insurance to cover him seeing out his contract?.

Not being argumentative mate, purely interested

You have to wonder whether Ashton’s control of recruitment strategy was about ego or doing deals that would benefit his personal means, one way or another.

I think both would amount to the same

  9. I've heard a few local ozzie rules amateur clubs using the chorus from "We Are Australian" and its been very catchy. I could see many not wanting anything from Oz but it could work & just for the record I'm not an Ozzie, born & bred in the UK 77yrs ago & a City fan for 68yrs, much to my dear old dads disgust as he was a gas man.
