  1. Interesting that James Taylor is playing out of position again on the left.
  2. I don't disagree that Vyner was ball watching but because it's a set piece you'd expect to match up appropriately. Vyner wouldn't handle Matt even if he wasn't ball watching.
  3. Vyner v Matt is not a good match-up. Surely Atkinson or Naismith should have been deployed on big Jamille.
  4. A little yes but he's looking more like a starter against Hull every minute he plays.
  5. Do kids still play football outside of organised sport. In my day where I grew up organised local football for kids was confined to school, it was, practically non existant outside of that arena. So we used to play after tea until dark on any patch of grass available with a Trophy football and never shirked from heading the ball.
  6. I don't like the sexual chants either and I'm an old git who knows what the words mean although I expect many of those chanting such filth don't. You have to remember you're dealing with 15-20 year olds with 4th-6th form mentality where 'boobies' make them snigger or a, few older types who haven't got their mind out of the 6th form yet. If it was an individual you could report it to the stewards but they're not going to take action against a sizeable group. I never took my nephew to a City away match until he was 15 and I certainly wouldn't take my 7 year old great nephew to one, which is sad. He's better off watching Melksham Town.
  7. The problem with Denmark is that they have Pernille Harder and... Er, that's it!
  8. The Argyle 5 was James Wilson once a youngster at City. Martin looked a little off it but he may have had some sleepless nights recently. I'm sure his sharpness will pick up. Weimann and Conway were super energetic and much of our chances arrived courtesy of one or both putting Argyle players under pressure. HNM and King were OK but they got overrun by the Plymouth midfield 3 at times. Neither look likely to replace the James/Williams pairing. Vyner was often exposed as City's right side of the back 3 (Klose played in the middle with Naismith rested) and Argyle should have scored 1st half but their forward line couldn't hit a barn door. City made a rash of subs at 60 minutes and Bell and Sykes were the pick for me although Towler was unlucky with a header that hit the bar.
  9. There'll have been some sort of pressure applied. There's a desire for Cat 1 status to be restricted to sides in the Premier League.
  10. Or La la la la la la la la la la Llansantffraid FC, Llansantffraid FC
  11. Break out the vegan sun cream and have plenty of water on hand.
  12. Shock equaliser for Belgium there against a dominant France. JP has managed to get a City reference in.. As I write France back in front. 2-1
  13. Wow! What a ride from Tom Pidcock. Winning on Alp d'Huez on Bastiile Day to put himself in the top 10.The last two days have shown that this Grand Tour rookie can now call himself a road racer. Great rides to from Chris Froome, finally getting back to form, and Geraint Thomas who gets himself onto the GC podium.
  14. I'm loving this thread which has engendered some real debate. There are differences of opinion but without any rancour and with many valid points being made on all sides of the argument. I do like most threads on OTIB, not minding the comical quips and setting off on tangents, but this one is a real winner.
  15. So here we go again! Actual Champions of their national leagues last season are required to go through endless qualifying rounds while also rans or champions of sod all like Chelsea, Barcelona etc get a bye straight through to the lucrative league stages. Said it before and I'll say it again UEFAs stance of opposition to the European super league was pure expedient politics as they support the would be breakaway clubs in every other way.
  16. He seems to always play well against us but how consistent is he? I wonder because you'd think he'd be a guaranteed starter. I know he had sometime on the sidelines but that doesn't appear to be the case even when fully fit.
  17. You make some valid points but we don't average 20k most weeks, only when there is a sizeable away following. If you deduct away fans from the total gate we average 18/19k and that includes some 14k ST holders whether they turn up or not.
  18. What a day at Le Tour. There were amazing rides everywhere from riders at different stages of their careers. Obviously the ride of the day goes to Vingegaard who, with the help of his Jumbo Visma team, blew Pogacar away to take the yellow Jersey. But there was also the rides of Barguil, Bardet and the comeback boys of Qintana (showing his early season form was no fluke) and Thomas (showing that his Tour de Suisse victory was no fluke either). Special mention too goes to Adam Yates and Tom Pidcock riding his first grand tour and still getting to grips with road cycling.
  19. Presumably with the addition of many plastics. Other than the novelty of a first season there is nothing to suggest we could maintain a crowd if 26k. We celebrate the sale of 14k season tickets. It hurts me to say it but for a City the size of Bristol that's pathetic. Cities and towns much smaller than Bristol support sides with consistently larger support than ourselves. We have a really large catchment area compared to many. It's not as if we we sit in the shadow of much larger clubs as they do in London, the Midlands or in North West England.
  20. Is that the first JP commentary without a City reference? Anyway it was, a fascinating game of two contrasting styles. In terms of ball control and passing the entire Spanish team could play inside a phone box, but they lacked a cutting edge and, apart from one stunning save, they didn't work the German keeper. Germany were stereotypical of their football history and nation being well organised and efficient. England now can't meet Germany unless we both make the final. We're likely to meet Spain unless they lose to Denmark. We certainly have the ability to out power and out score Spain but can we keep it tight enough. Spain have the ability to pass it around us if we are not. Can't wait to find the answer.
  21. That was a really good half of football. As you'd expect from a team dominated by Barcelona players Spain have had the majority of possession but the Germans, although not lacking flair, are amazingly efficient. What is interesting from the Germans is the number of times their right back finds herself at centre forward. Looking forward to the 2nd half.
  22. Germany 2-0. Popp with a header from a corner.
  23. What a miss! Superb play by Spain sees Garcia sprint clear and round the keeper but hits the side netting with her shot.
  24. Dreadful mistake by the Spanish keeper who clears straight to Buhl who controls and fires home. Germany 1-0.
