Kind of agree with you @Calculus it is amazing how many songs we still sing about them, especially with a growing number of our support base probably never even being alive for a Bristol derby

Comparing ourselves to them isn't about singing songs though phantom. We will always dislike and deride them as they're our nearest neighbours, hence the songs, but we don't use them as a yardstick of success as we used to IMHO. We've bigger fish to fry!

Are you sure? Always find it a bit odd that one of the most frequently sung songs is 'Stand up if you hate the Gas'. Then there's this thread and it's massive predecessor. Obsessive, you could say...

Singing songs about them and comparing ourselves to them are 2 different things though Calculus. While we will always 'hate' them and sing with pride that we do, I don't think we measure success by our relative positions anymore, at least I hope we don't, we've moved on.

Do't get me wrong, I laugh when they lose and their relegation to non league was hysterical but they're no match for City, they know it, we know it and I genuinely don't think it's a comparison many at our place make anymore. I'll laugh at them but don't set standards by them.

That club has always defined ‘success’ as ‘better than City’ whereas we seem to prefer ‘the best we can be’. Mind you, my sister defined 80/81 as a good season because we finished above the Sags - we were both relegated and we finished with more points than goals but we were above them in the table.

To be fair, I think that has been a problem for us as well. Finishing above the gas was acceptable. Now it's a given, we have finally moved on but I do think that's one of the reasons for our mediocrity in the past.

I'm glad we've finally got away from the 'better than them is success' but it's taken a very long time to get out of that mindset TBH.

    Onwards and upwards!

Tonight and perhaps Leeds next up. As I noted in my intro I was taken by Lee's somewhat reticence to be over confident, not always a bad thing, but it came across almost as negative or too cautious. I hope that does not carry into the pre and ht team talks.

I can't see City being cautious Hav, I'm not sure we can play that way TBH. GUNG HO!!!!

Great point about the Leeds game BTW.

It's all about settling back down to the job after that pesky international break. If we've managed to keep the focus going over the last two weeks and everyone is fit and ready to go then this should be a City win. I'm going for 3-1. COYR.

I think that, along with what happened last season, is what's making me nervous MR.

I going for a comprehensive 3 nil but I'm extremely cautious about this evening I must say. Are we the 'real deal'? I reckon we'll find out a lot tonight.

I'm confused how if you trip in a crowded gangway you could fall into the pitch side fence but apparently an empty gangway will prevent this. I'd take the bloke seriously if he talked any sense.

Taking the fun out of football I would suggest is the way that attendances will fall. Perhaps we could ask those inconsiderate players to stop scoring thus stopping all that dangerous celebrating.

Is it really that difficult not to stand in a gangway and not to let off flares?

It's not asking much is it.

That's the sort of thing i would expect from our friends south of the river, not true gasheads

Is it us with the threat of partial capacity cuts? No.

Is it us with racism problems? No

Is it us with supporters appearing in court accused of sexual offences caused by playing boob cricket? No

Is it us who has received a warning from our Chairman over behaviour in our stadium? No

Is it us that's 'been frew 2 divorces, Labour frew the Thatcher years, sob, sob' 'I would rather my dog died'? No

Extreme smugness on our part methinks, as usual! :)

The idiot from Henbury is living in a parallel universe!

And you’re not allowed to jump up and down if they score! ....it’s just not allowed ..so stop it! ..:laughcont:

That did strike me as a strange request TBH but it seems more to do with the pushing and shoving if / when the peasants score.

I think back to the old east end surges, what on earth would the H and S mob make of that nowadays?

This Forum is beginning to sound and behave using the tactics that Millwall fans used to employ. For those youngsters who started supporting after the hooligan era, I'll explain. One Millwall fan would assume the attire of a Rovers fan and then get into the Tote End. For about 20 minutes of the match he would act and pretend to be a Gashead. Then, out of the blue, they would start punching and hitting all those around them. The confusion this created made Gasheads start fighting other Gasheads in the ensuing mayhem. So, one solitary idiot caused a major upset. That is what is happening here on this Forum. I suspect a Sh1thead has probably infiltrated us and is constantly spreading stupid rumours about takeovers, the financial concerns about the Al Qadi family, their family rifts etc. etc. NONE of us has any real idea what happens behind the closed doors of a board meeting. Maybe someone connected to the directors is leaking little tit bits every now and then (as with WW2 espionage.....release a few truths to give it credibility and then add loads of lies - fits with Henbury sag then that you want to spread) but why can't we all just get behind our team. We have probably the best manager in League 1 (and probably the Championship!) Is this the same Manager who had 'taken them as far as he could last week? We have a team of players who want to play for the Blue and White Quarters and , thankfully, we have a huge following of true Blue fans - 8000 is hardly huge who get behind the team every week. So, can the moaners and the lie mongerers just give it a rest. You are playing into the hands of the Teds, who know we are coming up on the outside and they are running so scared they will employ any tactic to try to drag us back- you have got to be kidding me? 'coming up on the outside? WTF??? They're not even close!!. When I started viewing this Forum is was useful, interesting, funny and well, everything you want in a fans Forum. Now, however, I log in, see the usual boring (We're doomed!!') topics. The longest I've spent on this Forum recently is now, writing this. Come on, let's get back to issues that are true and positive. Don't give the Teds any ammo to stir things up.

Surely even the gasheads don't swallow this utter barlox? What an utterly deluded ****wit! It's given me a damn good laugh though! :P
