I know Ireland aren't the strongest team right now but maybe there are some hidden gem in there that we can cast an eye over?

I know he's not gonna be there but the lad Evan Ferguson at Brighton is supposed to be an awesome talent.  Any more League Of Ireland players like that would be very handy.

I actually am quite excited we’re using the HPC in this way for an international side. I know we use it as a bargaining chip when trying to tempt players and it seems they really respond to it.

On Ferguson - he’s miles ahead of us already I’m afraid. On some big big clubs radars.

Edit - I now see you weren’t suggesting him, just using him as an example.

  2. I don’t really subscribe to this ‘just improve on last season, 13th, progress’ idea as we’ve done that, got to 8th… then fell back towards battling relegation.

It doesn’t always have to be slow and steady. Sunderland were League 1 last season, but saw a chance for the play-offs right now and took it. Next season will be our 9th at this level, while we’ve been here many teams have hit the right formula and taken their chance.

Right now we have a good, hungry young team, a good manager and everything off the pitch is PL ready. So next season, we go for top 6. If we don’t make it, so be it. But we push hard for the play-offs, they’re doable!

  3. And we’re done! On the topic of this thread, availability has felt much better this season. I think Rennie and his team are doing really well. If we can maintain good availability throughout next season (with a squad padded out a bit this summer) I think that gives us every chance of a play-off finish. Bit of early optimism for you! Good win today, well done boys. And well done OTIB on another good season.

  4. Ok then, last one for this season. It’s a strangely pensive time. Thankfully, there’s another month of football to watch courtesy of Prem, FA Cup and Europe but not the highs and lows of our beloved reds. Already counting down to August to be honest.

1 change to the 18. Dasilva out, Mehmeti in. I think we’ve seen the last of Jay then, a good servant for us. Mehmeti meanwhile is just getting started, and I think there’s lots to come from the lad. Hoping he gets minutes today. COYR. ?⚪

Sharples is a really funny bloke who has used a really random platform for good.

FM has saved me from many moments of utter desperation over the years, I'm in my 30's and have achieved a near lifelong ambition of working on the game as well as commiting many hours to playing it.

People will mock the game and that's fair, gaming is a phenomenon many of an older generation can't resonate with, but for me it's been a source of escape when the black dog finds its way back to my shoulder.

I think there are a lot of young men who have utilised the escapism of the FM universe.

Escapism and video games are a good marriage in general. Despite loving football and games I’ve never been one for FM, but I remember going through a particularly rough patch and using GTA IV as a break from it all. It was reassuring knowing that however rough things got I could go to another world for a few hours.

Congrats on achieving your goals btw, well in ?

The same as when he said the Ukraine keeper will have to "soldier on"  He clearly meant nothing by it.

When your job is to fill silence for 90 minutes twice a week you're going to say the odd thing that comes across a little funky just by chance. I don't think anyone truly believes he's a racist over a comment that innocuous.

Disagree on the keeper situation. I think we need Max competing against a realistic alternative. He's been "given" half a season by Pearson to show what he can do - a totally sensible scenario given we had to get Bentley off the wage bill - but free handouts for the Goalkeeping position should end next Monday. Our biggest weakness is individual mistakes in the defensive third of the pitch and competition needs to be fiercer at that end of the pitch imo including between the sticks. You can't have 20 players fighting for 10 spots and the Goalkeeper in the comfy club. Nige definitely alluded to defensive weakness on Saturday, which always becomes apparent when you are up against a bit of quality, and that is an area he will look to sort out as a priority in my view.

Totally agree regarding not having 20 players and a ‘comfy’ culture, that’s why I spoke of needing players in at CB/RB/LB/CM and new players up top and in net if superior options are available. But I definitely don’t think GK will be a priority in our summer recruitment, it’s not nearly as urgent as 3 or 4 other positions.

  8. Assuming we sell Scott, and Dasilva and Kalas make contract exits (all fair assumptions) - we need to be looking at CB and LB as a top priority, but RB and CM also need attention.

If options arise then we can look at Keepers and Forwards but these are less urgent. Front line is stocked ok, Bell/Mehmeti for the left, Conway/Wells for central and Cornick/Sykes for the right. Max has been performing at top half Championship level on most metrics (saw a few weeks back).
