One loser here, F1.  Myself and Mrs Maesknoll have been following F1 for years, she is a Hamilton fan, I never really had a Driver I followed, but was at Barcelona when Verstappen won his first GP - followed his career and wanted him to win the Championship since then.

Today, he was unable to keep pace with Hamilton’s car, doubt there is much between them in driving ability, Mercedes have really sorted their car in the last few races, I thought it was over.  The Drivers have done nothing wrong, the FIA and Micheal Massi have potentially undone a lot of the good work in garnering interest and new support for F1, terrible way to end the season, not sure what the outcome can be now, maybe voiding the race is one option, Max keeps his title, even Mrs M the Hamilton fan thinks the result shouldn’t be overturned and she is talking about not following the sport anymore, after many years.

They probably haven’t undone the good work in garnering interest as a lot of that interest was in Max, but what they’ve risked doing particularly with this wwe style entertainment over sport is risk alienating its core support

Horner giving “let them race” to Masi - would have been fairer to red flag and let them both change tyres and if MV won from there, unlucky for LH, but fair enough. The sequence of events that Masi allowed was nonsense.

The same Horner who wanted the rules applied like it was any other race and had they been there wouldn’t be any controversy

Max did nothing wrong and the abuse he is getting is pathetic. Making him wait so long after was a disgrace.

Its not that he won but the way he won and had it been the other way round it would’ve been just as unfair. It was meant to be an F1 title decider rather than a WWE entertainment show and that leaves a bitter after taste

Mercedes have a every right to make their appeal when 2 FIA regs were broken, purely to contrive an "entertaining" end.

Races have ended under safety car before, and they will in the future too.

Don't think it would get overturned, but Masi has to go after this.

As Brundle pointed out who’d replace him, due to the circumstances of how he got the job he needs some experienced help

Bore off Mercedes you messed up by not pitting. Accept defeat.

Except as Rosberg pointed out expecting the rules to be applied correctly played a part in their decision making, plus if Hamilton pitted he’d have lost track position

I'd be stunned if they overturned the race result - and remember Mercedes did still win the constructors championship.

You've got to question Michael Masi's future at FIA though.

They were desperate for it not to end under the safety car but it still has to have some fairness about it

People saying Max was lucky seem to forget the luck Lewis had to win his first title.

Rain and a car on the wrong tyres isn’t quite the same as losing a 13 second lead to a safety car and then the rules being suddenly changed for the good of the show. Going by that Lewis was fortunate in 2008 but Max seriously lucked out here

They're never going to overturn the result, but I imagine lawyers are being consulted by Merc.

It really highlights how vague the FIA rules are. There should be cast-iron regulations to decide on situations like this. It shouldn't be left to the race director and stewards to interpret things how they wish.

Two protests have been launched, So we could go from a unsatisfactory way of deciding the champion to a even more unsatisfactory one

Rather see it competitive rather than a version of Scottish football on 4 wheels. Great to see it down to the wire for once.......go Max !!!

It was more a rhetorical question than criticism. Just curious as it seems a very British thing wanting the British guy to lose to make it more interesting

For no other reason except that it's time someone else won it to keep it interesting.......go Max !!

I wonder if German fans thought that when Schumacher won fives years in a row and Vettel four in a row

At least with Red Bull starting on the softs there should be some intrigue regarding strategy tomorrow

Watching FP3 it’s hard to see beyond Lewis with the pace he has. They look stupidly quick

That’ll please the armchair twitter fans who’ve convinced themselves that if Max wins it’s because of the driver and if it’s Lewis it must be the car.

It does amaze me how they let a F1 driver/team live rent free in their head

In the same article was a piece about Jason Cundy, and his fight back from a knee injury.........Both Cundy and Joe Williams are 24 and struggling a little with injury problems, but they are both young enough and potentially good enough to have a significant future at City.  It would be great if they could both get fit and feature regularly in the squad.  I think they would contribute a lot?

I assume you don’t mean the former spurs player

His tyre blow out that was likely a nailed on win counters that….

Difference is that was in a sporting context whereas that two lap procession  was a cynical exercise. Although if countback then goes to who has the most second places i assume Max would win then

Just listening to R5 Ellis and John, something they have brought up, what a shame we haven’t got Murray Walker commentating on this race, it would be fantastic.

Anyway, rivalry aside, I am hoping for a good clean race and I just want to see it settled without a controversial incident.

A scenario nobody’s mentioned is Max’s extra ‘win’ was the cynical two lap procession in Belgium.

If WHU were forced to settle with Sheffield Utd over Tevez then I don’t see either of those claims as frivolous. I’m not quite as up to date as a few, however with accounts still not available for last season Wycombe’s case could get stronger and Derby could very well be forced to settle out of court as well twice.

The idea that anybody would brush off these claims as frivolous and at the same time offer money for the club is absurd. Simply defending the cases could cost millions and Gibson at least is in no mood to back off, particularly as Derby hijacked the signing of two players with money that notionally appeared due to the sale of the ground. Without going into the record books to much regarding when Waghorn scored some of his 30 goals for Derby they have a case just for that. Is it winnable? 50/50 and to what extent they can show damages is in the lap of the lawyers but certainly not frivolous.

But Tevez literally scored the goal that kept West Ham up that season. The Wycombe scenario is a little more cloudy as it was actually a Marlon Pack goal for Cardiff that kept Derby up. Although morally of course Derby should’ve been relegated having used every delaying tactic they could

Theres no way Steve Gibson can prove Derby prevented his side getting promoted as all it cost them was a place in the semi final. And by that logic couldn’t Derby have sued QPR and Villa who beat them in play off finals having cheated on FFP?

I was in the away end that night. It was only a year after the Hillsborough tragedy. It was eary looking down on the terrace below and thinking of what had happened not long before.

I must say that the atmosphere that night was possibly the best I’ve ever witnessed, the Wednesday kop was heaving and was an awesome sight.

I wasn’t there but that was we the first thing i thought of watching that, must’ve been eary for the Wednesday supporters to see it all season you’d have thought they’d have attempted to cover it or something
