It was a communication mess. Hamilton should been informed Max is giving back the place just before Max was told to, both drivers would have been ready and the transaction smooth, or as smooth as it could be with DRS in play.  Instead they told Max and Hamilton didn’t know as you said which caused the mess.

I don’t think Max is blameless, he was just clever. This is what pissed Toto off and led him to smashing his headphones. They were outsmarted.

It seems it was more about getting to the drs zone second. Maybe they need to consider a rule for such a eventuality

Exactly why should have given him a pen that lost a place. I reckon Mercedes will be appealing that it should be greater.  Give him 20 secs he falls to 3rd and loses 3 points.  As such he can win it but not if he wipes Lewis out - he could only play fair

They have to be seen to be consistent and so he got the standard penalty for causing a collision.

Besides F1 now has the race it wants on Sunday with both drivers being on the same points. I never bought that they wanted Max to win as the scenario they’ve got is more valuable for increasing global exposure and the worldwide tv audience

Yep & if they did draw us, they’d claim double that would want tickets.

Couldn’t muster 5000 yesterday from the blue “half” of the city.

    Tinpot.

Pretty sure the competition rules give them 15% of the capacity which would give them the whole Atyeo stand, hopefully it doesn’t happen as would be more trouble than it’s worth with nothing to gain

  4. Has gone largely unnoticed with what happened at the front but for me the result of the day was Mazepin escaping without serious injury after a collision (for once not his fault) that reminded me of Billy Mongers which cost him both of his legs

Like the Birmingham fan who lashed out at Jack Grealish a few seasons back

Credit has to go to the City steward number 57 who literally stood and watched this lad climb over a railing and then over a number of rows of seats before entering the pitch.

It was really surreal seeing the lad come down the stand that nobody approached him

So was he one of Derby’s or one of ours? Was all a little bizarre

  6. The problem isn’t parachute payments in isolation, it’s being magnified by ffp which then creates a double whammy effectively removing a clubs ability of keeping up with those relegated clubs and that then creates a derby scenario where a owner will try and use more creative ways to try and make up the shortfall and we all know how that turned out.

Its naive of the efl to think that the problem is entirely of the premier leagues making. They could either amend the ffp rules for those who aren’t receiving parachute payments to even up the playing field or they could introduce a rugby style salary cap or they can continue what they’re doing it the moment is moaning about it and not much else

What’s interesting is fans seem to view ffp breaches as cheating but grudgingly accept parachute payments when they’re basically the same thing

Sir Frank Williams has passed away aged 79 ….RIP

He was the main man when i got into F1 with what seemed a conveyer belt of top drivers like Mansell, Prost, Senna (rip), Hill and Villeneuve. What he achieved whilst already impressive was all the more remarkable given the injuries he received in his 1986 car crash that perhaps should’ve taken his life and left him in a wheelchair.

Feels like the end of an era in some ways even if the F1 world has moved on

    Moaning about everything!

Asking for consistency isn’t moaning though

Bottas is a waste of a seat

He did end up on the dirty side which screwed him, the penalty also put max on the clean side

  9. Could be I’m seeing something that isn’t there but i wonder if there was a psychological advantage reversing the end we normally attack second half yesterday. Having our fans behind us seemed to help us not retreating like we’ve done so many times at home lately

Obviously there is the existing argument of having home fans behind both goals but as a stop gap is it worth us trying to attack the Atyeo end second half more often?

They won't penalise Max in the results from Brazil.

As others have said I think he may end up with a grid penalty for this weekend.

Whether it should be considered here or not, I think Max's history of refusing to back out and causing a collision is a factor here. Looks as though he has taken the same standpoint there - if Lewis wants to get past he will have to hit me so I'll just run us both off the track.

He needs to learn and fast IMO as he won't have Red Bull forever.

Personally i don’t think it’s a penalty but i didn’t think Norris was a penalty in Austria or others. Now they need to be consistent not change things just because there’s a championship at stake.

Hopefully they can start 2022 with fewer penalties and let the drivers sort things out between them which could make things interesting

Think the fastest lap points will have something to say about this as both teams will pull in Bottas and Perez to get the extra point at the end.

With the constructors championship being quite close it’ll be interesting to see how far they’re willing to go and which championship they’ll prioritise. The constructors one is where most from the prize money comes from after all

Funny one with Vettel is I couldn't stand him at Red Bull. Maybe its just a RB hatred or something, but I really have come around to appreciating him now. He's a proper F1 geek, have you seen the clip of him recalling every single F1 champion? Impressive levels.

I know what you mean would it have had anything to do with multi21? As he’s matured as a person i really like him now as well as respect what he’s achieved so wouldn’t necessarily say it’s particularly red bull related

I always like to think the best of people in the UK but I have to say it seems fairly obvious to me that the fact he's mixed race is an issue. He's a global megastar and great ambassador for this country yet seems to get minimal respect back home.

He's likely to go down as one of our greatest ever sportsman so I guess some might have to come to terms with that.

There is certainly an element of that and his standpoint on blm does make a certain proportion of the population uncomfortable. I won’t go any further as that subject has been done to death. There is also a certain amount of Hamilton winning fatigue which has nothing to do with his race, we had it when Schumacher was winning every week and winning the title every season and watching became pretty boring and to a lesser extent that was the case when Vettel was doing the same. I’m sure the German fans enjoyed it a little more though

Not to go all Kevin Keegan, but I'd absolutely love it if Hamilton won it this year. Undoubtedly one of the greats already, and getting that 8th title would objectively give him a case for being the greatest ever. This is all during a season where they almost certainly haven't actually had the best car, up against the best young talent in years, and unfortunately with very little support from his teammate who I think checked out about 2 years ago.

I can see why he might not be to everyone's taste - he can come across as a little bit annoying, though I'd say in recent years he's far better. But I think there is an element of immaturity with all F1 drivers to some extent, I don't think they're quite emotionally developed like the rest of the population. They are almost entirely rich kids from rich families who had a very different upbringing to most, it's almost a perfect recipe for developing jumped up arrogant adults . But unlike Norris, Stroll, Verstappen, Sainz, Leclerc, etc, Hamilton was brought up with his Dad having worked long hours at 'normal' jobs so he probably does have genuine humility. We do have a great crop of young drivers at the moment though and having Russell and Norris in that mix is fantastic.

One thing to have come out of the past year or 2 is just how twattish the Red Bull lot are. You could always tell there was a bit of it, it's all part of the game, but the toys come out of the pram far more often with them, a total lack of class from the team in general (except for maybe Newey).

Verstappen showed yesterday (and showed earlier in the season) that he will not race fairly when the stakes are at their highest. Completely agree and I think we could see Schumacher v Hill all over again if the Mercs can claw back some of the deficit.

I actually wouldn’t have given him a penalty yesterday but would’ve made him give the place back

Yes and we need to remember that he wasn't an alcoholic at the time of his greatest footballing triumphs, it all came later.

The Damned United is an entertaining film and Michael Sheen does a terrific turn as Clough, but it disappointed family and friends by suggesting BC was roaring drunk for much of the 70s.  It shifted his problems with alcohol a decade too early.

I’ve heard it reported that Clough used alcohol to deal with his experience of being at Hillsborough, which makes sense as it was only after that things started coming off the rails
